My Cousin Vinny–“You’re Honor, I hate him!” and all the other scenes

Signs–the final scene when we realize that Mel Gibson’s character is saved by his wife (and God) with her final words “Tell Merrill to swing away” and Merrill beats the evil alien to a pulp and Mel’s son is saved from the evil alien by his asthma (“Dad, what happened, Did someone save me?—Yeah, baby, I think someone did”), okay, I love the whole movie!

Unbreakable when Bruce Willis’ character saves the family from the creepy guy he touches at the stadium

Before I add any more “issue” posts, and you all get the idea I’m anti-everything, here are a few of my favorite scenes (I’m old - 44 on Saturday - and forgetful, so I may not get these exactly right):

Chariots of Fire:

When the Scottish minister character’s sister, or was it wife, objects to the time spent away from ministry - “I believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.”

Chariots again:

The American sprinter’s note - before a race, but after the Scottish minister has missed an event held on Sunday: “He who honors Me, so will I honor.”

And a dozen or more others. Simply one of the greatest movies ever made.

And, in a not at all serious vein, in an otherwise disappointing movie, the turkey scene from Mr. Bean. I laughed so hard and long that the muscles of my rib-cage cramped, and still I couldn’t stop laughing.

Return to Me - almost every scene but especially the restaurant scene where David Duchovny is on a date with this obnoxious person and the whole bottled water thing

and when all the older guys are dancing with each other

and when Carroll O’Connor is praying in the chapel
I love Return to Me! You’re right - the blind date scene is absolutely hysterical! I also love the scene when Bob comes by for his phone and the guys invite him in to play cards b/c he’s a widow and she’s wearing her shower cap. Too cute!

Raging Bull–The Jake LaMotta/Sugar Ray Robinson fight sequence.–“Hey Ray, you didn’t knock me down Ray. I never went down.”

From my all time favorite movie, A Room with a View, the kiss scene in the field of poppies is Settignano. Wow.

Thanks Karen for the info.

How about Brian’s Song when Brian’s Teammate says “He is not going to die. Is He?”

I always loved Bones McCoy’s coy line in Star Trek:
“He’s dead Jim.”

in no particular order:

Fight Club: When ‘Jack’ beats himself up in front of his boss.

Interview with the Vampire: When Louis sees Claudia in ashes and they break apart at a touch of his hand, that whole scene. cries

Return of the King: This one scene where it shows Gandalf sitting in a corridor while the castle is under attack, just sitting there with his staff. And also the whole last scenes of the movie. Especially when Frodo is carried away by the eagles and also when Aragorn sees Arwen again and kisses her. Oh and also when Arwen sees her son. Jeez, the whole movie, lol.

Fellowship of the Ring: Boromir’s whole death scene.

Clockwork Orange: When Alex sings Singin’ in the Rain and also the end when he is ‘cured’.

Moulin Rouge: When Christian comes back up the aisle at the end singing back to Satine, and also when he cries after she dies. (best crying scene EVER!)

Rebel Without A Cause: You’re tearing me apart!

Giant: When Jet laughs and says he’s a rich boy.

East of Eden: When Cal drops the money and hugs his Father. And also when he shows Aaron their Mother, and swings on the swing saying “I’m not my brother’s keeper” oh, and when he visits the girl on the roof.

Hero: Broken Sword giving up his life and also Nameless.

The Neverending Story: The Swamps of Sadness.

The Labyrinth: The Ballroom.

Breakfast Club: Bender putting the earring in his ear and raising his arm up.

Ferris Bueller: Beuller, Beuller…lol and when he’s running home.

Sixteen Candles: Duh duh duh, gasp! Nerd scene heh on the bus and at the dance.

Star Wars Phantom Menace: The final fight between Obi Wan, Qui Gon, and Darth Maul.

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back: “I am not a commitee!” and when Darth Vader reveals who he is and Luke falls and then calls out for Leia to save him. Also the best, when Han is frozen.

Gone with the Wind: After Rett lets Scarlett fall down the stairs. bunches of scenes in that movie of course.

Cold Mountain: When they sing the song just before Ruby’s Father gets shot by the homeguard. And also the scene with Natalie Portman and her baby when Inman saves them.

A Beautiful Mind: When Russel Crowe is in the hospital and also when he says he misses Charles.

Trainspotting: Renton getting clean.

The Passion: The flashback of Jesus falling as a little boy.

And many, many more!

OH!

Godfather(s): Michael learning what to do with the gun and then the assassination. And when he is sitting on the lawn, I think after he has killed Fredo.

Amadeus: When he is writing the Requiem Mass.

Harvey: Jimmy Stewart explaining how he met Harvey.

English Patient: When he is carrying her to the cave and she tells him she always wore the necklace and he cries.

Blade Runner: All the scenes with Roy, but especially when he kills his maker, when he is in the frozen lab, and his final scene.

John Kearns:
I believe we are supposed to avoid sin, and the near occasion of sin. To purposely view a film that is morally offensive certainly qualifies as, at least, an instance of the near occassion. Or, so I would think. I suspect my views are a great deal more rigid than your own.
A bit more rigid than the bishops’ too, I suspect.

ObBestScene: Spy Kids: The bed-time story about the spies who fell in love.
