Just curious what are some of your favorite TV series theme songs of all time. It doesn’t have to necessarily be your favorite TV series, but mainly the TV theme songs that you enjoyed the most. Obviously, some of us have more decades of TV series to choose from than others. 😀

Feel free to share a few of them on this thread. It may help bring back a fond memory for someone else who may have enjoyed the same songs but maybe forgot them over time. I will start with a couple of mine:

Miami Vice from 1980’s:

I agree with yours!

My first thought was the spooky theme for the old soap opera, Dark Shadows!

But I think the best Television Theme Song of All Time is the whistled song from The Andy Griffith Show.

Second place IMO is the theme song from Gilligan’s Island.

And Third Place goes to the Brady Bunch Theme!

I’m guessing that almost everyone who grew up in the United States can whistle the Andy Griffith show theme, and sing the Gilligan’s Island and the Brady Bunch themes!

I also love the theme from Cagney and Lacey.

I can’t think of my favorites at the moment but I agree with all those posted so far!

I had heard these before but had totally forgotten about them. 👍. The Masterpiece Theatre theme is so regal sounding that I visualize Queen Elizabeth about to show up in a procession or something.

When I see Laverne and Shirley, it makes me think of ‘Happy Days’ with Richie Cunningham and the Fonz.

I’m not sure, but they might’ve been on back to back on the same night.

I love me some TV theme songs. Many times I’ve enjoyed the theme song more than the actual show. I see that many of my favorites have already been mentioned, including “Laverne and Shirley”, “Miami Vice”, “Hill Street Blues”, and the original “Law and Order” series (Never got into the dozen spinoffs of that show but the original was great).

My all-time favorite TV theme is probably “Welcome Back” by John Sebastian, from “Welcome Back, Kotter”.

Other ones I liked include
  • “Rockford Files” by Mike Post
  • “Ironside” by Quincy Jones
  • “Woke Up This Morning” by Alabama 3 from “The Sopranos”
  • “Bad Boys” by Inner Circle from “Cops”
Since I have these discussions a lot, and people tend to mention the same 50 themes every time, I’ll throw in two of my favorite obscure TV themes: “School’s Out” by Mike Post from the short-lived Rockford Files spinoff “Richie Brockelman, Private Eye” and “The Zoo Gang” by Paul McCartney, from the series of the same name.

Yeah, I was just talking with someone about that. I had quite a crush on David Naughton at that point. He was well known prior to the series for starring in a bunch of Dr. Pepper “I’m a Pepper, You’re a Pepper” commercials.

I think they were. The characters crossed over at the very beginning I think, and then never again.

Mission: Impossible

Star Trek

Both produced by Desilu, and premiered the same month (September 1966).

“Laverne and Shirley” was a spinoff of “Happy Days”. I saw the original episode of Happy Days which involved Fonzie taking one of the guys (I forget which guy) on a double date with the two of them. Then the next year they turned up with their own show.

Thanks for sharing. I honestly had never heard of that TV series before, and it has a catchy theme song. Did the series last long?

Love The Sopranos, never warmed up to the opening song. In fact, as we binge watched it over a number of days, either my husband or I would scramble for the remote to mute it or fast forward through it. 🥴
