And if I told you that, you’d want to know the name of it and if I told you that, you’d want to know where it is and if I told you that, you’d want a list of all of the members and if I told you that, you’d want to know what they do for a living and if I told you that, you’d want to know what kind of car they drive.

Enough of this idiotic infinite regress.
We as Catholics are more interested in discussing your theology and your opinions.

But without any background which only you can provide, it has to be assumed that you have no real theology.

You claim to have learned from the “best”… yet unnamed.

You claim to be a pastor… seminary and background unnamed.

You claim to be in a “small Baptist church”… yet undefined from the many sects of Baptists.

and now you shield your stance behind your flock… if there is one.

By the way… I don’t care what cars they drive, or what they do for a living.

It is what they are doing for their eternal life that has us all concerned. Following you seems to be an unwise decision. I wonder if any of them see you on this forum. Maybe that is why you are so secretive…so they will not recognize you.

Hey Pastor Jim please answer my post
Pastor Jim how am I to know your interpritation is correct? Lets forget im Catholic but I am a member of what you call a bible believing Church. How would I know that your interpritation is better or right while me bible believing Chruch contradicts your bible believing Chruch?

For instance I know a many Baptist and Baptist ministers who dont believe Christ purifing us before we enter heaven denies the sufficiency of Christs atonement rmember baptist believe Jesus covers our sins this is why most protestants agree there is a final sense of sanctification when you die. Because Hebrews 12:22-23talks about the spirits in heaven that have been made perfect.

So again how am I to know with out goiong into the subject of Purgatory that Christ sanctifying us before we enter is dening the sufficiency of Christ? How am I to know you are right and my good friend baptist minister is wrong?

Just because you had the finest bible teachers around does not make you inallible either

I want a honest answer how would you tell a member of your Chruch that is contaplating or studing Ignatius writings as you did in bible school im sure. How would I know Im really confused how am I to derive the truth I read Ignatius and to me it dosent contradict scripture you dont seem to contradict scripture either im confused I read scripture and dont know where to go from here

What am I to do Pastor Jim?

How do you reconcile this:
Code:
Quote:
And therein lies the difference: your authority is history. Ours is the word of God.
With this?

Exactly Pastor Jim you can’t have it both ways and I was a Protestant just a few short months ago and I know what you all believe so stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

I’m a man and a saint and I’ve been taught by some of the finest Bible teachers around. That doesn’t mean that Ignatius’ opinion is infallible.
I don’t remember any saints (or holy men for that matter) self-proclaiming themselves to be saints…hmmmm :tsktsk:

The Bible describes a local assembly of believers gathered corporately for the preaching and teaching of God’s word, worship, accountability, and the use of the spiritual gifts for the edification of the body of Christ as a church.
St. Paul also writes that there are to be no divisions amongst Christians.
Now I beseech you, brethren, to mark them who make dissensions and offences contrary to the doctrine which you have learned, and avoid them. Romans 16:17

The Catholic Church is united in doctrine. It is not splintered into tens of thousands of denominations. Did Jesus Christ create His Church to divided?
You seem to place an awful lot of emphasis on history.
As we should be. Who do the Baptists trace their beliefs back to? I would say John Smyth. If you look at the teachings of the early Church you would notice a huge difference between their teachings and that of the Baptists.

I have a question for Pastor Jim:

What makes you a Pastor? Serious question

Now we have Jim editing his post #95 to include non-answers to posts that follow.

Clever… not

As for no priests in the NT… wrong… again.

Read Numbers… about the wrath of Korah, and then read Jude …

Strange that Jude would warn the Church laity not to usurp the responsibilities and directives of the ministerial priesthood or they would incur the wrath of Korah.

Hard to do what the ministarial priest does if the priest doesn’t exist:blush:

Jim, you said: " disagree. We have 2,000 years of history and another several thousand of history in the Old Testament."

If by “we”, you mean the Baptists… wow… another biggie. Shame on you… but then you don’t place much emphasis on real history do you?

then you said:

“It wouldn’t make sense to be secretive at this point when they already know what I believe.”

so… let’s hear some answers…

You think this site is aggressive?
Of the forums I post on, this is certainly the most confrontational and aggressive. This is going a little off-topic but this site also is the most male-dominated of the forums I post on (I would hazard a guess that 90% of posts here are from men) , which perhaps is why it has the most aggressive culture?

good observation… yes the forum is male-dominated, unlike daily Mass that is female dominated;)

perhaps men are trying to aMENd their ways.

Ah - an astute comparison of cultures!

I compared the culture here to other forums. But, yes, it is actually more revealing to look of the culture of a Catholic internet forum compared to the culture of the Catholic Church at mass. The demographics and cultures are indeed very different.

It makes me even more cautious of internet forums.

I post on two other forums and, while the Catholics there share some of the same traits as those here, I don’t believe they would ever dream of treating non-Catholics the way the Catholics here do.

Do they not ask you questions on other forums?

I post every so often on a non-Catholic Christian forum/website. It is unbelievable the comments and accusations that are said because I am a Catholic.

People on this forum may disagree with you. That does not mean that they are treating you wrongly. Also, like I said on an earlier post, you are not so kind either.

You also seem to answer only questions you wish to. And even then it is not a thorough answer.

Yes, I feel rather ashamed at the way non-Catholics are treated here. Internet discussion forums will never bring out the best of people, but the culture here seems particularly aggressive; I think I’ll retreat back to calmer places.

God bless you Jim; let us each follow Christ in the best way we each possibly can. I don’t doubt you are doing that.

Well then, I guess that makes it OK.

That’s right. Disagreement is not the same as being treated badly. However, name calling, putting down, personal attacks, putting words in somebody’s mouth are examples of treating someone badly.
Now, of course you’ll claim that I did this, but you won’t ever give an example.
You also seem to answer only questions you wish to.
That’s correct. When I started here, I tried to answer everyone’s question and respond to everyone in a good faith belief (no pun intended) that they were sincere. Now that I know that isn’t true, I only respond to certain things, while ignoring veiled put downs and baiting questions.

Thank you for your kind and respectful response. May you be an example to your fellow Catholics.

Now do you all see how easy that was?

Oh sure. Baptists are so nice to Catholics that we’re not even allowed on their board unless we lie to get in. Gimmee a break with all this bad, bad, bad Catholics stuff.

Actually, I post on two Baptist message boards where there are Catholic members on each one.

On the other hand, I could just as easily say “Catholics are so nice to Baptists that they won’t even let us take communion with them”.

You would have to want/believe first.

I have looked back at Pastor Jim’s posts, and he is correct. He has indeed answered everyone’s questions. I am sorry I doubted you Pastor Jim. It is only now that I realize when you say “I already answered you” you are speaking in the context similar to when a Mother asks her child “Answer me when I ask for you”. You are using the word “answer” in the sense of “respond”, which is perfectly allowable in the English language. Another great example of why we need a source other than the text to help us understand what we are reading.

So in light of this, could you please give a reasonable and honest reply that satisfies the questions that are posted on this and other threads, rather than merely “answering” them?
