"Bible Christian" Who does this better fit: Protestants or Catholics?

Yes, that makes sense. CCD is presented like a forced thing, at least around my area. Kids are not happy to go. Now my Protestant friends who have kids in Sunday School seem to like it. I asked them why and they said it’s fun and they learn about their brother, Jesus.
Is it just the spin that Catholics have on things that turns people off or what?
Unfortunately, sometimes it is the way it is presented. Not every Protestant kid enjoys going to Sunday school (I can name a few I know right now), but they go because their parents make them.
There are other elements I would be glad to discuss with you, but we should do that via PM to avoid derailing the thread 😉

donny,
Do you not know Scripture existed even while the apostles journeyed to spread the the Gospel. There are at least two or three areas in the NT where the authors referred to other authors writings as scripture and they were quoting NT.
If I remember my Bible history correctly, Matthew was the first book that was written and Mark and Luke based their writings on Matthew, adding/detracting/emphasizing elements according tho their audience. But even then, Matthew wasn’t until well after Jesus death.
Paul refers to teachings, but he is mostly concerned with the actions of the Churches, rebuking and congratulating accordingly.

what I find really funny about Protestants is that when they read the bible with the guidance of sola scriptura, they think they are unlocking hidden secrets from the bible the Catholic Church put together and have been using.
Where did you hear that? I know that they read the Bible the same reason why Catholics do: to learn more about Christ and how to follow His teachings.

I understand what you’re saying. 🙂 No further debate is necessary. Sorry for the tiny derailment. :o

If they followed his teachings, that would include not rejecting His plan for protecting truth and the prime minister He left on Earth for us.

A book that’s not 100% clearly written to the human mind from God is bound to have some misinterpretations. Afterall, to err is human.

It fits anyone whom seeks the truth that is in Christ and Christ alone!
No, that firts anyone who seeks all truth it in the Bible and not Christ. 😉

I agree but a lifetime of study is not enough to be perfectly familiar with the Bible in its entirety, for Protestants and Catholics alike.

what I find really funny about Protestants is that when they read the bible with the guidance of sola scriptura, they think they are unlocking hidden secrets from the bible the Catholic Church put together and have been using.
With the guidance of sola scriptura???

Do any of you guys understand what is and is not sola scriptura?

No and one doesn’t need to be perfectly familiar with the bible in its entirety, its a way for God to communicate with his people its a media. We desire to be perfectly familiar with God through his word not the other way around.

it didn’t exist before scripture!
You’re right…not before OT Scripture. You should know better than to post something like this Martin. Please don’t waste space with medocrity in the future. Even YOU realize the Church came before NT Scripture…WAY before.

True, but if you commit to your Bible only with their own personal interpretation then you’re rejecting the Church (not the bible), who is the pillar of truth and thus you are rejecting Christ.

In other words, many so called bible Christians do not follow Christ.

No it didn’t!!!

before a canonized bible yes scripture NOPE!!!
Check it out…
Peter recognized the writings of the Apostle Paul as Scripture. He cited Paul’s letters.

Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction (2 Peter 3:15,16).

**
When Paul wrote to Timothy he quoted a passage from Luke as Scripture.**
For the Scripture says, ‘You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads the grain,’ and, ‘the laborer is worthy of his wages’ (1 Timothy 5:18).

Dont tell me I am wasting space, I don’t make comments I can’t back scripturally!

Prove that the church from Rome is the “pilar of truth”

Martin? Do you even know what year the Catholic Church was started??? It doesn’t appear you do.

Exactly! 👍 We are constantly being drawn to God, whether we like it or not. 😃

Prove that the church from Rome is the “pilar of truth”
Prove that the church from Timbuktu or Palookaville or wherever the 13.000 different Protestant churches started is the real church. Did you know Mark wrote his Gospel in ROME? Seriously Martin, you need to step away from the forum and regather your thoughts and plan of attack. Seriously dude.:o
