Patrick, this is one of the best threads I have come across. Love the pictures. Keep it up.
Exodus 32:19 It came about, as soon as Moses came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain.
Not quite. That event is before the one before Exodus 32, the Golden Calf incident; exactly, Exodus 31.Exodus 32:19 It came about, as soon as Moses came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain.
This reminds me of a silly scene from a movie I saw long ago. Moses comes down from the mountain, and he starts to hold up the tablets and says, “The Fifteen…” but then one tablet slips from his hands and breaks, so he continues, “The Ten…Ten Commandments!” I always laugh when I remember this scene.
Correct answer.Oh, that is a bolt of lightning, not a crack in the mountain face. You mean the finger of God writing on the tablets? That one is this verse, maybe
Exodus 31: 18 When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God.
Yes, I recognize that photo. That is the movie I had in mind.I’m not ready to answer the other pictures…I’m up in the middle of the night right now because I can’t sleep. I’m supposed to be trying to not think so I can get back to sleep.

This is Daniel’s vision of the four beasts in Dan 7. For example, the third beast there (in the lower left corner of picture) has four heads and four wings from:
You have the great sea in the picture, and it is interesting to see the horns on the last beast. I’ve always had trouble picturing such a thing. I think the row of horns is cute, like a row of candles. (Can a beast be cute?)Dan 7:6 "After this I kept looking, and behold, another one, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird; the beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.
andExodus 34:1 Now the LORD said to Moses, "Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered.
Do you know if the movie with Charlton Heston (the movie 10 commandments) showed the finger of God writing on both sides of the tablets? I think they were written on both sides.Exodus 34:4 So he cut out two stone tablets like the former ones…
No, the movie just shows God striking down the mountainface with fire, then after that, cuts down the tablets to their shape. Writing only seems to appear on one side of the tablets (But then again, many Moses movies I’ve seen only feature writing on one side of the tablets). This is Daniel’s vision of the four beasts in Dan 7. The floating pieces of letters sounds cool, and boy would giant cubes be hard to carry around in the ark, unless the tablets floated a bit, too.For a nice trivia, Rabbinic tradition believes the Tablets of the Law to be actually in the shape of a perfect cube with sharp corners (instead of rectangles with round tops as they are commonly depicted).
Hey, maybe we are all destined to be borg. (star trek joke).Rev 21:15 The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, and its gates and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal.
I hesitate on this one, because the men have spears. I only remember swords for when the sons of Levi killed people at the golden calf. So I must be thinking of the wrong scene?Time for new questions (And I’ve got a lot of 'em right now)…

From Exodus, related to the above Moses questions. An incident NOT in the Ten Commandments because Mr. DeMille had conflated the Korah incident with this.
Exodus 32:27 and he told them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Put your sword on your hip, every one of you! Now go up and down the camp, from gate to gate, and slay your own kinsmen, your friends and neighbors!”

Another obvious question.
1 Kings 17 - Elijah fed by ravens:
1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe [a] in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.”

Those who question the notion of a merciful God usually point to this passage.
25 Moses saw that the people were running wild and that Aaron had let them get out of control and so become a laughingstock to their enemies. 26 So he stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” And all the Levites rallied to him.
27 Then he said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.’ " 28 The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. 29 Then Moses said, “You have been set apart to the LORD today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day.”

Another Moses question.
GO!!!
8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”
15 Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner. 16 He said, “For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The [c] LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”
Don’t worry, DrPiano. I’m glad to see another face on the thread. Hopefully this post of mine will bump it up and we’ll get more participants. Maybe someone will identify that woman with the really shining clothing (think sun, for those of you who need a hint).sorry - didn’t notice you had answered that one - you beat me to it
