Biden now opposes Hyde Amendment

Phil, You said Joe Biden is not a good Catholic. You have judged him not to be a good Catholic.
You can say whatever you want to say.
But through your words you are judging him to not be a good Catholic.
Now if the Pope, Archbishop, Bishop, Priest or someone with authorize to speak for the RCC were to say that, I would be inclined to listen.
But you, like me, are a typical, average Catholic person.

Why?I ask because I’m really curious.

I don’t understand the point in voting 3rd party? What does it really accomplish other than bragging rights?
Does Anyone remember the 3rd party candidates from the 2016 election?

Ultimately you have to ‘endure’ the consequences of either of the Democrat or republican.

I will pray for you, a person who supports a man who has had multiple flings with porn stars.
I wound venture to guess that he has never picked up a Bible in his life.
The guy is a first-class phony. He has been around television most of his life and he knows how to play to the cameras. Liar extraordinaire.
FYI, for most of Trump’s life he was Pro-Abortion. But when he wanted to run for President, all of a sudden he changed his view.
Hypocrite thy name is Trump.

Jesus never said not to judge, but to use right judgement.

St.Paul called out members of the Church in Corinth since men were sleeping with their inlaws.

He called for their excommunication until they repented

I cannot presuppose what the original comm-enter had in mind, but we can only judge actions . If a baptized Catholic is not following the teachings of the church , that too one who is in a very public setting , it’s our duty to call him out on that.

Otherwise what is the point of being Catholic…for him.

You really shouldn’t be judging him after telling people not to judge.

He has kept his promise and appointed two conservative Supreme Court justices,
Except that he has a problem with the Mississippi bill which bans all abortions in all cases. I wonder what his reaction would be if the SCOTUS upholds that bill.

Being Catholic usually connotes believing in what the Catholic Church teaches. If you don’t believe in the teachings, then it doesn’t make much of a difference what you claim to be

his whole outlook on abortion changed after Barron was born.

But it’s JUST a theory and NOT fact.
My theory is that Chris Matthews talked him into it in his heinous fashion. But the Evangelicals could have paid him too. I don’t know.

The Catholic Church teaches Redemption. It doesn’t teach you must vote for Republicans. And be nice. I’m still a registered Republican.

Yes, objectively he is NOT a good Catholic.

He is NOT a civil judge, yet when Vice President he TWICE conducted marriages for homosexual couples.

Lay Catholics are not allowed to marry anyone civilly unless it’s a requirement of their job (aka Justice of the Peace).

As Vice President - marrying people was NOT part of his job description.

He broke with Catholic teaching to do that.

Deep down, he might believe what the Catholic Church teaches, but he is in no way publicly living out the moral teaching of the Church.

He is causing scandal.

For all the modestly debates we have on here because of the issue of scandal, the scandal Biden, Nancy Pelosi, etc are all performing is FAR more damaging than a Catholic dressing a little sexy.

Furthermore, objectively speaking - he would NOT be allowed to be a Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor - unless the priest(s) involved were dissent to Canon Law.

Hence: he is OBJECTIVELY not a good Catholic.

Bill Weld for one. He’s challenging Trump. I would love to hear a debate between him and Trump.

I appreciate the prayers

And I pray for Trump that Holy Spirit will convert his heart and lead him to follow God’s will

Just like I would pray for a Democrat who was President.

But I do not vote for people. I vote for platform.

And just to be be clear: I didn’t vote for Trump in the primary. I didn’t want Trump to get the nomination. But I surely didn’t want Hillary Clinton as president. I would vote for Trump over Hillary again too.

The only Democrat I will ever vote for from now on is one who is proudly pro-life. There is no issue I care about more now today. (Which used to not be the case, I used to care more about foreign relations the most - which is why I mistakenly voted for Obama twice - two mortal sins that I have confessed but still feel guilty about)

Yes, Biden is from a big Catholic family, he goes to Mass, at least some of the kids/ grandkids went to Catholic school, etc and there are many news articles going on about his Catholic background.

I think he cares more about getting votes than his faith at this point, though.

(Pius IX and others condemned an unlimited religious freedom or one only limited by naturalist or religiously indifferent conceptions of public order–Vatican II does not teach contrary to this and the Church still upholds that condemnation, as seen above)
I read the following. Hopefully I have the quotations correct. Are they contradictory?

Pope Pius IX, Syllabus of Errors , # 78: “Hence in certain regions of Catholic name, it has been laudably sanctioned by law that men immigrating there be allowed to have public exercises of any form of worship of their own.”
This is an error condemned in the syllabus.

Then we have the Vatican II statement:
Dignitatis humanae # 3: “ So the state , whose proper purpose it is to provide for the temporal common good, should certainly recognize and promote the religious life of its citizens. With equal certainty it exceeds the limits of its authority, if it takes upon itself to direct or to prevent religious activity .”

This seems to be a sticking point with SSPX .

Chris Matthews? I don’t think think so.

I think he truly does know a child who’s father wanted him aborted

And personally, I think it was him

I don’t even know where the center of our political spectrum is. or if we even have one. That would imply that we have some agreed-upon societal standards, and I don’t think we do any more.
I agree. Perhaps we should be looking for a consensus figure, one which everyone can live with even if they don’t agree with them. There are ways to do this.

Well then, look at the bright side for Trump. Many of the liberals aren’t convinced Biden has changed. His chances of nomination probably have decreased since he’s probably lost the center (too).

I am Pro-Life and I vote for Democrats because there are more issues than abortion. Issues include affordable health care, Social Security, Medicare, a $15 miminum wage, more benefits for veterans, more money for public education, affordable college tuition, tax cuts for the working class, but MOST all for civility .
As long as Donald Trump sits at the top of the Grand Old Party totem pole, I refuse to vote Republican. Trump is a foul-mouthed, angry liar, and a womanizer.
Without becoming uncivil, I invite you to study what you just said. You effectively said that manners mean more to you than human life. Did you mean that?

I was a Democrat myself for years, but I no longer vote for them because they’re all pro-abortion. Neither party is going to harm Social Security, Medicare. Neither is going to actually fight for a $15 minimum wage, veterans benefits, education, tuition, and the only party proposing tax cuts is the Repub party. Trump is a Presbyterian and isn’t totally prolife, but he has appointed prolifers to the Supreme Court and cut taxpayer support of abortion, and I can’t ask much more of him than that.

But I agree the Dem party talks about those things, though it never does anything for the poor or middle class. Is that worth supporting abortion?

Not trying to make you angry, Joe, but I was where you are once, and I finally realized I couldn’t simultaneously follow Church teaching and support the Dem party. I’ll admit I voted for Trump and it’s virtually a certainty that I will again. I will not vote for abortion supporters, period.

One last thing, in some places “Democrat” party was once okay or even preferred. Back when I first started working for the party, the REAL old-timers told me it was “Democrat party”. I can’t remember the rationale exactly, but it was something to the effect that they weren’t a “political party”, but a group of individuals who shared common political goals. So it was a “party of Democrats”, not a “Democratic party”. Some time ago I talked with a lady from Indiana who said it was the same there, or had been.

I know, it doesn’t make a lot of sense, and I might not even have it right. But I still say it some even though I don’t support the Dem party anymore, out of respect for those old Democrats, all of whom are dead now. I think they would have fainted away if they had known it would become the party of abortion today, so they were spared what it is now.

But was he really ever prolife, or was he only in the sense Obama said he was regarding homosexual “marriage” until he “evolved” into a total supporter virtually overnight. Personally, I don’t believe Biden was ever prolife, really.
