Why do some people think that to be pro-choice on the matter of slavery would be wrong but it would be OK to be pro-choice when it comes to killing the unborn?

The truth is slavery is unacceptable and abortion is even much more worse than that!

6 million died in the holocaust and now over 50 million have been killed by abortion.

I sometimes wonder if scenes of bulldozer pushing corpses which happened with the holocaust–if bulldozers were pushing 50 million corpses of the unborn if that would reach people who are pro-choice when it comes to abortion?

How insane and evil does abortion have to get before we stop it?

People died in wars to stop slavery and the holocaust.

Today’s world is WORSE than back then.

Now there are many people who simply don’t care!

Satan is pro-choice–why would any Catholic want to be on his side?

I think we should consider them to simply be representing the USA rather than American Catholicism.
They may or may not be representing ‘American Catholicism’, whatever that may be, but they probably do represent the feelings and opinions of many American Catholics. 😦

Perhaps they will be briefed in advance and strongly encouraged to remain in their seats.

It will be interesting…

Joe Biden is the Vice President of the United States of America and as such is more than appropriate to represent the US in this diplomatic event. Nancy Pelosi is House Democratic Leader. These folks have leadership roles in our government. Of course they would be chosen to attend. It’s ludicrious to entertain the idea that he would send Paul Ryan over Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi. I understand you guys like Ryan, but he doesn’t outrank them.
You do make good points but I don’t know why Speaker Boehner was left out. Just saying.

He was invited and declined. He said “too much work in Washington” and while I realize he is trying to suggest that other members of Congress and the White House address our problems, the reality is that due to his declining we now have Mrs Pelosi instead. Ah the unintended consequences or no good deed goes unpunished!

Jerry the reality is that the carnage is unseen and thus does not engender the same response as you said, seeing the corpses of those slaughtered by the Nazis, or to those who saw the horrors of slavery. I know there is much dispute about whether the gory photos of aborted babies are effective but until people are faced with a mental or visual image of the deaths by abortion they will not rise up and stop the killing. It’s rather like hearing about the tribal wars in Africa…most reacted with sort of a “meh…” until the photos, reports and surviors appeared on the nightly news. The sad truth about abortion is that it’s done in secret and the little bodies are discarded as “medical waste.”

I wish politicians like Biden and Pelosi would SEE abortion up close and maybe they would not be so cavalier about this disgraceful abuse of power.

Ah what the heck, let’s stone them while we’re at it. You people kill me…geez louise. All I can think of to say right now is the shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus wept”.🤷
Jesus does weep, every time a person has an opportunity to make a difference in the life of an unborn child and they choose their own agenda instead. He also weeps when you, a “Catholic” don’t see the sin in their actions but you are quick to point out my actions as sinful. Look at the book of the prophet Eziekiel, you will see the requirement to point out your brother or sisters wickedness.

Please do some research to learn your faith, it is obvious you have no clue as to what your Church teaches.

Hi Lapey,

Longtime. We are obligated to offer ‘fraternal correction,’ but in scriptures Jesus says to go one on one with your brother first. That doesn’t mean go on a public forum, anonymously, and attack someone.

Next, let’s give our new Pope some credit. He seems to be fairly blunt so far, and I’m sure he can more than handle himself, and represent our Church, and all her doctrines.

crystal ball logic strikes again.

Let me try and be a bit raw here. Catholic politicians supporting abortion laws is a grave scandal. Catholic politicians have been doing this for years.

Part of me is angry. Part of me has great hurt and frustration. Why does this have to happen? Why this divide on something so core to our human condition? Christ’s dignity is assaulted by this because he is human–was in the womb just like those aborted babies. Each one with an eternal destiny. Our value as humans is robbed-or attempted to be robbed from us by this view of the human extrinsically valued.

We should love our enemy, but I don’t feel they are an enemy–just hopelessly lost. I’m frustrated at the loss of sight, the blindness that such evil, such wounding that spreads to the mother, to the father, throughout all society can be passed over as good. Such evil can be argued for with such passion! * Like a lost soul arguing to stay in hell.*

Then I ask myself: What am I blind to?

I want to correct them in the hope someone would correct me. I want to believe that some mud could be applied to their eyes that they might see. That there might then be mud for me.

It is a fearful thing down to my soul that Catholics could be so blind.

I think a lot of times Catholics who support evils like abortion or support those who support such evils KNOW what the Church teaches, they just ignore it. Or as Archbishop Chaput noted, do such mental gymnastics to justify their position that the practice should be an Olympic event!

In the case of Pelosi and Biden, my belief is that they think they can divorce their public positons from their private beliefs. Unfortunately in doing so they are both wrong and destructive to themselves and to other Catholics who repeat the same theory just as your child might justify misbehavior “Well my brother did it first!” Leading others to scandal is even worse than simply engaging in scandalous behavior. Public figures have an even greater responsibility because of their power and influence.

All we can do is pray for their conversion and when we see others try to justify supporting evils like abortion, show them the grave error they are making.

Christ’s dignity is assaulted
I think that’s why theological debates become heated, and the reason outrages are expressed over other people’s sins, especially those so intrinsically evil. I have had the same reactions; then I remind myself, Christ doesn’t need me to defend Him. He sees all the wrongs, of each of us, public and private. He needs us to remember all the Gospel message and do as He commanded. Justice is His, and not ours. If we stay with what He’s commanded of us, we work according to His will.

I guess you and the posters who vehemently disagree with BlueCane have been truly charitable in doing so. I’m not good with any such thing, I see you have your crystal ball all shined up and ready to go. Self righteous, indeed. You keep thinkin’ that dearie.
I’m sorry, exactly* where *was I uncharitable with BlueCane?

And yes, if you keep posting this way, I will keep thinking that you are the self-righteous, condescending bully in this thread.

If a public figure is outspoken as these two are directly against the faith this brings scandal by them presenting their self for communion. So yes if they do publically approach HC they should be denied publically. They may be requested privatly not to approach. I hope they avoid the scandal.

I give our new pope much credit. So far I am pumped! I am glad its not my weekend to preach. Not sure the people could handle me this weekend!

I don’t think anyone suggested Pope Francis would whack Pelosi and Biden with his Crozier but that if they do present themselves for Communion that the be denied…unless and we can hope and pray that their hearts change between now and the 19th and this is stated publically and with remorse. Both Biden and Pelosi have **caused scandal **by promoting abortion, by claiming untruths regarding the Church’s position. I understand why, politically, they were selected but I am disappointed that they are representing this country’s Catholics.
Exactly.

If I were present at that Mass, I don’t think I could tell you who received, and who didn’t, voluntarily, or not. But then, that’s how guys like you taught me. 😛 I guess I’d have to be a public recipient of the ‘news’ from the repeated newscasts. :o

I am in awe of our new Pope, and believe he will handle any situation appropriately.

I’ll be sure and email both the Vatican, and mods here so they can close down the apologetics forum.

You seem to have a view of Catholics being much less involved than any of the recent Holy Father’s have stressed.

Who cares, anyway. Calls for a lack of of charity usually come when someone wants to defend another poster who simultaneously posts false information about the Church and also coincidentally agrees with them.

You’d think for all the seemingly trivial things they suspend and ban people for around here, lying about Church teachings would carry a bit more weight.

Well, I apologize that I am not clear enough for all to understand. I didn’t say, ‘we shouldn’t do anything.’ I propose doing it differently, humbly and with love in all things. That was clumsily stated in the same quote you used, only not emphasized.

That is very involved to me.

Are Biden and Pelosi who support abortion being legal going to attempt to receive the Eucharist and sacrledge it?
Not only is receiving Holy Communion in the state of mortal sin deadly to the soul, it can actually damage one’s physical health very badly.
