I think Rove is playing the odds here, he knows O’Donnell has a good chance of imploding before November. It will be interesting to see if Palin and others begin to pull back from her a bit. I think she is dangerous to her opponent, but even more dangerous to her friends. If I were a politician, I wouldn’t invest any political capital in such an unstable and risky candidate.
Well conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer said today that Palin and Sen. Jim DeMint should campaign for O’Donnell, even if they know the election is a lost cause. That is, if they really believe in their endorsements of her.

Otherwise, they are abandoning her after they helped her get the nomination.

"That’s what makes the 11th-hour endorsements of O’Donnell by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and Sarah Palin so reckless and irresponsible. …

If DeMint and Palin want to show that helping O’Donnell over the top — she won late and by 6 points — wasn’t a capricious spreading of fairy dust, perhaps they should go to Delaware now and get her elected to the Senate.

You made it possible. Now make it happen. I would be happy to be proved wrong about O’Donnell’s electability — I want Republicans to win that 51st seat. Stay in Delaware and show us you were right. The beaches are said to be lovely in the fall. "

Castle spent about half of his professional life as a partner in a law firm, which is presumably where he made his money. That said, I have no problem with taking a hard look at all candidates. I am guessing that someone, either the Dems or O’Donnel’s people, did take a good look at Castle. Or that someone did during one of his previous campaigns. But whatever is true about her former opponent, or her current opponent, O’Donnell will have to answer the very legitimate concerns raised about her if she wants to get elected. If concerns come up about her opponent the same will be true of him, of course.
Following is Castle’s resume from Wiki, acknowledged to be a left-leaning source.

Castle finished school and passed the bar in 1964. Which gives him a working career of about 46 years.

He was in political office from 1965 to 1974 and from 1981 to 2010.

So he worked as a lawyer from 1964 - 1965 and from 1976 - 1980 [he formed his own law firm].

There was some overlap from 1965 - 1975 when he held both political position and worked at a law firm.

So, you could say that he only worked as a lawyer for 6/46 of his career … 13% or 16/46 of his career when he had dual paths 35%

Here’s the Wiki resume which I shortened, but left in the relevant and/or interesting bits.
Castle attended Hamilton College in Clinton, New York and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Hamilton in 1961. In 1964, he earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. He was admitted to both the Delaware Bar and the Washington, D.C. Bar that same year.

Following his admission to the bar, Castle returned to Wilmington and joined Connolly, Bove and Lodge, working as an associate (1964-1973) and later partner (1973-1975).

Castle served as Deputy Attorney General of Delaware from 1965 to 1966, and was elected to the Delaware House of Representatives in 1966. He served as a state representative for two years before winning a seat in the Delaware Senate, where he remained for eight years. He also served as minority leader from 1975 to 1976.

In 1976, Castle left the state legislature and returned to the full-time practice of law, founding his own firm with Carl Schnee (who was later nominated as U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware by President Bill Clinton in 1999).

He returned to politics in 1980, when he was recruited to run for Lieutenant Governor of Delaware by Governor Pete du Pont. He served from 1981 to 1985.

In 1985, as the hand-picked choice of the popular Governor du Pont, he easily won election as Governor of Delaware, defeating former Delaware Supreme Court Justice William T. Quillen. In the campaign, Castle was criticized for being a shadow of his mentor and only promising an extension of du Pont’s program. He was re-elected as governor in 1988.

In 1992, Castle did not run again for Governor, due to constitutional term limits. The result was what became known as “the Swap.” Castle ran for the seat of U.S. Representative Thomas R. Carper and Carper ran for Governor. Delaware’s political leadership had quietly worked out the arrangement and retained the services of two very popular office holders.
Castle was first elected U.S. Representative in 1992, and won re-election by wide margins eight times, in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008.

Castle is a member of various moderate/liberal Republican Organizations, such as Republicans For Environmental Protection, The Republican Majority For Choice, Republicans For Choice and Christine Todd Whitman’s Its My Party Too. Castle’s centrist positions have made him the target of conservative groups such as Club for Growth, who ranked him the least conservative Republican in the U.S. House in 2008, and RemoveRINOs, who, in April 2010, named him the Ace of Spades on its most-wanted list.
Castle cosponsored the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. The bill proposed expanding the number of stem cell lines that are eligible for federally funded research, expecting that this funding would generate more research and ultimately greater progress in addressing many kinds of diseases.

Despite the production of induced pluripotent stem cell research, Castle is still pushing for the funding of embryonic stem cell research.

Castle suffered two minor strokes during the 2006 campaign, but fully recovered.

On November 9th, 2009, Congressman Castle’s District was profiled by Stephen Colbert in his segment “Better Know a District.”

In 2010, Congressman Castle ran to be the Republican candidate to fill the seat of Former Senator Joe Biden, now Vice President. Congressman Castle was defeated in the Republican primary on September 14, 2010, by Christine O’Donnell, the Tea Party favorite.

In June 2010, Castle was one of only two Republicans to vote in favor of the DISCLOSE Act, intended to limit spending on political campaigns by corporations in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The bill requires added disclosure for political spending by corporations and prohibits some corporate political spending. [7]

He’s 71 years old, has been in and out of public service since the mid-1960’s, which is a 45 year period.

I still find it questionable how someone could become a multi-millionaire with a career that has been, mostly, public service, unless there has been some corruption involved.

My concern wtih O’Donnell is not her past, I agree that lots of people do stupid or odd things when they are young. Its her present that will be a problem for her. The credible stories of her lack of honesty and her shady financial dealings continue to mount. The latest I heard was that she apparently put her mother on her campaign payroll.

O’Donnell is beginning to remind me of Carol Mosley Braun. For those that don’t remember Braun, she was a Democrat elected to the Senate from Illinois in a liberal backlash against the incumbent who was a Democrat, but considered too moderate (specifically he voted to confirm Justice Thomas). Braun’s main credentials were that she was a black woman, and that she was very liberal. There were lots of questions about her financial dealings, including how she handled campaign finances and how she supported herself and her mother. The allegations were derided as political smears, racism, sexism, etc. After she was elected, she turned out to be everything her accusers said she was, and more. And she turned out not to even be that liberal.

I am beginning to think O’Donnell is cut from same cloth, just from the conservative end.
If you were running and your mother agreed to help, would you pay her?

If she quit her job to help your campaign would you pay her?

While we are discussing the merits of Ms. O’Donnell dabbling in “witchcraft”, can we please pause for a moment to consider that President Obama dabbled in cocaine. He wrote about it in his book.

How about an end to the hypocrisy? Both admitted mistakes in their past and have moved on.

I don’t know how long he was a full time lawyer, and how long he was a full time politician. In many states, being a representative or even a Lt Governor is not a full time job. Or maybe he comes from a wealthy family. At any rate, if there is some reason to think that there is something wrong with his finances, then his many political opponents would be well within their rights to have brought it up. But he is not running for anything any more. The question is whether and when O’Donnell will answer the equally legitimate questions about her finances. There have been credible allegations made that she abused donated campaign funds, including accusations from her former campaign manager and from a watchdog group. Maybe the campaign manager has an axe to grind. Maybe the watchdog (which has gone after Republicans and Dems alike) is biased. I don’t know. But the easiest and most sensible way for her to put this to bed is to answer the allegations directly, as Rove advised.

He had a salary in the mid-hundreds every year for his entire working career - the House of Representatives and Governor’s office are “public service” but they pay a decent wage, especially since there are benefits that offset the normal costs of living. I don’t know if his wife worked. His father was a lawyer and might have left him something. I would be shocked if he had less than $8 million.

Getting back on topic.

Be careful; she could turn people in her disfavor into frogs (or toads) (or newts).

[Just kidding.]

But I’m told if you listen to the whole clip, she sounds quite articulate. More than just a sound bite.

[How did she get on to Bill Maher’s program when she was so young? More than once?]

So???

What’s the point?

So she may have dabbled in witchcraft before she became a Christian. Or before she decided to commit to her faith. So??? She is now a Christian and devout.

May God forgive me, but I can’t stand that Sarcastic Smug Atheist Condescending So-And-So Maher.

Most probably the reason he “dug this up” was so the narrative of “This Is obviously a religious Fanatic and Nutcase and possibly a Hypocrite” could be planted in the public mind!

I guess one does what one has to do to advance the causes of the party and/or ideology one adheres to. Rahm Emanuel AND Karl Rove should be proud.
I share your sentiments regarding Maher. When I found out that it was he who had dug this up, I turned to my wife and exclaimed, “I am joining the Tea Party”. She laughed, but I am serious Even though I know little about the Tea Party, if it nettles Maher, count me in… If Bill Maher endorses something, then I oppose it; if he’s against a thing, then I’m for it. The man literally turns my stomach.

[seems to me that either or both of mark levin and/or michael savage had unkind things to say about Bill Maher. Or maybe it was someone else.]

Good for you!!!😃

The irony is, now Maher is saying on his show that he will continue showing old clips of her on his old show saying (according to him) questionable things until she agrees to come on his program and answer the charges. Because she refused to come on his program after the “witchcraft” footage surfaced.

Oh, yeah--------the man does not have a stake in this. Oh, no. :(:mad:

Before I didn’t think much of O’Donnell, that she was kind of weak. But now that the media is bringing up the stupidest things, I support her. I also like the fact that she’s unapologetic on correct Catholic teaching, it shows she’s brave, cuz most people are inclined, even in the early 90’s to keep quiet, and that actually says something about her character. It’s good to know a lay Catholic who is able to profess/defend faithful positions and teachings on topics in public. It doesn’t seem like an easy thing, especially, when you’re among the Bill Maher types and MTV places. So when I read later , that she was being consistent on Church teaching, explaining those things in that environment. Standing firm and defending one’s belief is a plus in the character category.
She also is already right on policy.
Being a Senator at the end of day, is for voting the right policy and having unwavering principles.

One week later the media is going the "she’s a WITCH! " route off of a teenage anecdote. Pathetic.

Good for you, and it’s a sound litmus test, in regard to MR. Maher.
I ALSO share those sentiments.

Bill Maher attacks the Catholic Church a lot. He represents such ugliness; he’s hard to pray for, and it’s also quite sad that he tries to be a person of influence, but all he does is influence the already foolish.

Here’s an example of a stomach turning Bill Maher quote on his show, about disabled children:
BILL MAHER: I have two dogs. If I had two retarded children, uh, I’d be a hero. And yet the dogs, which are pretty much the same thing…what, they’re sweet, they’re loving, they’re kind, but they don’t mentally advance at all.
(Audience Reacts) What? Dogs are like retarded children
GUEST: My nine year old nephew is retarded, I’ve never thought of him like a little dog
MAHER: Well, maybe you should.
All under the guise of being a “comedian”

This man is not just a bad man, his attitude is that of an EVIL man. (Religulous, his “Comedy Bits” ) Maher, with his constant ridicule on Christianity and believers, would be an evil man, but I don’t think he has much influence.
Having to see him on t.v. and all the stuff he says, it’s like staring into an abyss of arrogance and contemptuousness.

Good for you!!!😃

I wonder how long it will be before the six or seven people who watch the show get tired of the clip?

I hate to say it, but it’s more than just “six or seven people” watching the show. Maher’s show appeals to the “Blue State” intelligentsia and “sophisticated” types for whom Left-leaning Liberal Snarkiness (plus straight out Atheism) is very “in.”:(:(😦

O’Donnell is beginning to remind me of Carol Mosley Braun. .
O’Donnell is beginning to remind me of two of my favorite philosophers: Mother Theresa and Teddy Roosevelt.

Oh, and I found this toward the tail end of a Tony Blankley column. You can google him; it’s on www.townhall.com

Nothing better illustrates the old world confronting the new than the early threat by Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee insiders to withhold money from O’Donnell’s campaign. For insiders, the power of the purse is paramount. But these are new times. Overnight, Internet contributions swelled O’Donnell’s war chest from $20,000 cash on hand to more than $1 million – thus revealing the irrelevancy of the RSCC to the outcome of this contest. No doubt this lapse in judgment by the RSCC fueled the wave of contributions to O’Donnell and, conversely, will cause a corresponding decline in contributions to the GOP House and Senate fundraising arms as voters eager for change bypass party committees and give directly to candidates.

[Correction, the total of internet contributions is now well over $2 million.]

They have this automated totalizer thing: www.christine2010.com

So, to all of the people attacking her, KEEP IT UP!

The Democrats can’t defend thier record over the past 4 years, or the President’s, so it will be an endless series of attacks portraying the right as racists, homophobes, and witches.

Ironically, she made the statements about her past, 10 years ago, which makes the mentioned past even more “past”, and yet Obama gets a pass for essentially leaving Rev. Wright’s church to take the podium for a debate. Weird.

Just see if she weighs as much as a duck and be done with it.

It looks to me like she smeared herself.
I was wondering why she was on Bill Maher’s program to begin with. Turns out she was the spokesperson for a Catholic group.

No idea what the dates are, or if this is even the group of interest, but at some point she was speaking publicly as: head of a pro-abstinence group known as Saviors Alliance for Lifting the Truth (SALT).

Every time we look into her background we find more and more pleasantly surprising things about her.

I was wondering why she was on Bill Maher’s program to begin with. Turns out she was the spokesperson for a Catholic group.
And we all know how much Bill loves Catholics!

Nice to know she has the guts to appear knowing she was destined to be a punching bag.

If there were no point here folks would not have talked about (or would not still be talking about!) the president’s short grammar school hiatus in Indonesia. Perhaps that was different.
If that had been the whole of it. The president’s father and step-father were both Muslims, so was his closest buddy at Occidental. His link to Christianity is through a very Muslim friendly pastor, whose differences with the Black Muslims are slight. The President is defined by his associations, so when he talks about mosques, he is just a little too friendly.
