If that had been the whole of it. The president’s father and step-father were both Muslims, so was his closest buddy at Occidental. His link to Christianity is through a very Muslim friendly pastor, whose differences with the Black Muslims are slight. The President is defined by his associations, so when he talks about mosques, he is just a little too friendly.
Quite right. 😉

I was wondering why she was on Bill Maher’s program to begin with. Turns out she was the spokesperson for a Catholic group.

No idea what the dates are, or if this is even the group of interest, but at some point she was speaking publicly as: head of a pro-abstinence group known as Saviors Alliance for Lifting the Truth (SALT).

Every time we look into her background we find more and more pleasantly surprising things about her.
I assume the previous poster was implying she “smeared” herself unintentionally----since there is no evidence she did this to herself deliberately.

I don’t think when O’Donnell appeared on the show in 1999 she had any idea she was going to reunning for the Senate 11 years later. And she was actually answering a question as to her background, not deliberately boasting of her “witchcraft days”.

Thanks, for the hijack.

This is the first time I have heard of a United Church of Christ retired pastor having views close to a leader of the Nation of Islam. More to the point, I have attended Trinity and I can personally state that you are without a clue.

Let’s discuss the thread.

Apparently Christine O’Donnell was on the Bill Maher television program more than once.

She said something on Hannity ( I don’t normally watch Hannity , but it was a clip on the net) that when she made those statements she was newly invigored in her faith, and had the naive compulsion to preach, I guess she was trying to be a public voice on Catholic issues.

Maher’s show Politically Incorrect was when Maher was still a…hmmm… what’s a charitable substitute for jerk?) 😃 no matter but not the emboldened, empowered anti-Catholic, anti-American bigot he is today. And before he got canned, I guess earlier it started out, as a forum for all sides to be represented. I guess O’Donnell was a guest asked on a few times, due to the ABC show producers, and her media personality connections, maybe she wasn’t familiar with him, as most know him today as the militant anti-Christian.

I believe Ms. O’Donnell spurned Catholicism while she attended college.

“Halfway through college, she’s told reporters, she quit drinking and having sex, left the Roman Catholic Church for evangelical Christianity and became a vocal opponent of pornography, homosexuality and, for good measure, masturbation.”

Like many Catholics, as she got a little older, she began to recognize the folly of her juvenile ways. Some people return, some people do not return. Don’t know where she is at the moment, but at this point, she seems to be very committed to Christianity and to the sanctity of life.

Whereas her opponent, Mike Castle RINO ], is vehemently pro-abortion; pro-embryonic stem cell research, and he says he’s Catholic.

And her other opponent, Chris Coons [D], is also vehemently pro-abortion and he’s not Catholic. www.thebeardedmarxist.com ]

I’m sorry, and I could be wrong, but she doesn’t sound like a very stable person to me. She says that she was drinking, having sex and engaging in witchcraft while in college, is that right? It just doesn’t sound too good.

If that is the standard I doubt we have ever had a stable leader on any level. The last three US Presidents have admited to drug/brooze use. W. Bush all but admitted he was a problem drinker before joining a Men’s Bible Study

This much I agree with. Having a wild youth appears to be a prerequisite for public office these days. I don’t much care what she did back in the day. Its her current problems with integrity and rational thought that give me pause.

Think very hard: can you think of any other politicians OR any non-politicians who engaged in that sort of behavior while in college?

Someone suggested that pretty much everyone has baggage.

And someone else suggested that the PERFECT candidate is not running for office this year.

Thanks, Beau

that’s odd though, because for the most part, she’s labeled as Catholic and is reported as Catholic.

I read the article, and it kind of leaves things without confirmation and alludes to a period during College, I don’t know if she maintains her wedge with the Roman Catholic Church, or spurns it.

I did find a piece written by O’Donnell on Catholic exchange in 2003 praising Catholic Tolkien…catholicexchange.com/2003/12/18/93651/

and other reports say that when she was on Bill Maher, during those interviews she was already a committed Catholic.

🤷 Either way, her views, (masturbation, condoms) fall in line with Catholic teaching, and I noticed she was defending things that Cafeteria Catholics are and have been ignorant of , so that’s why I was inclined to believe at some point she came back to the Catholic Church. Because a lot Evangelicals, aren’t so hardline on those issues (masturbation, condoms, lying)
But it’s possible I’m mistaken, but most reports refer to her AS Catholic…(It might be a Mel Gibson type angle, where they know technically she’s not a Catholic anymore, but they believe she’s badly representing Catholics, so who knows )

I used to watch Politically Incorrect-------and I can tell you, the show was anything BUT “Politically Incorrect.” If you even so much as criticized Bill Clinton, Maher or some of the Left-Leaning guests on the show would give it to you REAL QUICK. During the Impeachment Trial, anybody who was pro-impeachment was routinely castigated and ridiculed with glee by Maher and others.

I remember some years ago when he was in the Larry King Show (I think it was before the 2008 election), he actually said he could not understand how anybody could not like Hillary.
Really. 🤷

You do know many saints , have had debased moments in their youth too? So I wouldn’t say I’d be quick to judge based on those troubling things in their past as long as you can see and judge how they are after their awakening.
St. Augustine and even St. Francis:
As he grew up, Francis became the leader of a crowd of young people who spent their nights in wild parties. Thomas of Celano, his biographer who knew him well, said, “In other respects an exquisite youth, he attracted to himself a whole retinue of young people addicted to evil and accustomed to vice.” Francis himself said, “I lived in sin” during that time. catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=50
Her admission that she did that stuff, actually is a forthright moment that most people don’t bring up, and the fact that she mentioned it, in order to say she’s rejecting it, is good.
Now I’m not saying O’Donnell is super Catholic nor can I judge whether she’s persevering with the Catholic and/or Christian viewpoint.
I did hear one bad interview, where she was evasive, and defensive and not very graceful to say the least… it was actually the worst I’ve heard… but then I heard three other decent interviews where I couldn’t really find anything off about her, as a citizen candidate, so I’m back to just assuming, *"I don’t know too much adequate information about this person to judge in depth but I’m not a local voter, and there are countless corrupt Senators who make O’Donnell’s rough patches as a Candidate, seem trivial…so good for her, and I hope she is a moral person to put in the Senate. I had pause about her, a couple weeks back that she might have an integrity issue.
I don’t think she’s a strong candidate and she might be wobbly, but she’s been defending her political beliefs consistently, considering she’s been at it for two decades. And Senators just need to be steadfast and vote their conscience, so I think she’s adequate. Not perfect.

I don’t think I agree with the rational thought, dig.

I wasn’t impressed with her earlier, but given Castle was awful and the media ridicules her for her religious views, rather than HOW she’s going to vote, in the long haul, O’donnell’s problems are negligible, because I can imagine a majority if not all the current sitting Senators could be given the same spotlight, and they’d actually HAVE crimes and super immoral private stuff exposed.

It’s good that she’s atypical, and has her oddities out front and center vs. a super polished politician with a PUBLIC persona that everyone accepts while their warts and bruises remain hidden due to their political machine and PR firms.

Like everyone else has said----she has repented of those things and is now devout. Big Deal.

I was New Age most of my adult life (including College) and believed in Pagan Gods at one time. Should that be held against me forever and ever even though I’ve now found the Truth?😊

While I agree with your reasoning, I don’t think, you used the best examples…

Clinton, Bush , Obama
–I respect Bush, out of the three, but I know in spite of him becoming classier/truly Christian sobered up, partier/spoiled priviledged son, did effect how he ran his presidency like how he was too trusting of some people not as good he was.
–Clinton’s background, obviously, manifested itself in his presidency.
–Obama…don’t get me started.

Thanks for that correction…

I guess what I meant was the “SPIN” of the show , or the PACKAGE the show was trying to present itself as…which was meant to have a hodgepodge of different people , like Marilyn Manson, etc. going on and chatting with some dignitary or something about some random pop cultural issue , but yes, I guess that’s not how it really was like when it was on, and was still very pro-liberal agenda/Democratic Party.

I was still a kid when that show was on, so I wasn’t really paying attention to how the bias favored Clinton /Liberal Viewpoints so much. My only thoughts back then when flipping through the channels, "What the HECK is up with that BIRD LOOKING GUY! … I don’t like him. " CLICK.

Quite honestly, I don;t see how any sane person could believe in pagan gods.

Be nice, Sid!!!😛

In my defense, I had a different frame of mind and was just a somewhat different person back then. Different view of life, too. I was more of a Pantheist back then who believed all paths led to God. Stupid view, but not “insane.”

I know an Atheist who would say she could not imagine a sane, rational Being believing in a God. Of course, when reminded that one “really” cannot be an Atheist but can be an Agnostic, she will argue with you. And she’s pretty “sane.” Totally wrong, but not “insane.”
Some Pagans say to me they would rather believe in a Pagan God than a Judeo-Christian God.
And they strike me as pretty “sane.” Wrong as well, though. So you’re really off base on that one. 😃

My favorite guest was Paul Rodriguez, the Comedian. On another show, he ended knocking Maher out accidentally when he turned around too quickly while sitting next to Maher. Literally knocked the guy out. Very few people remember that anymore. Funny in a sick way, though.
