Monte’s post about how various politicians have been described is more precise than what I have thought before, but it is similar in many ways.

I stopped identifying with any party quite some time ago, but something that I have come to notice in the interim is that Republicans are almost always portrayed as “stupid” by Democrats. Sometimes I have remembered other labels, but “stupid” is almost always involved. In my memory, the one exception was Nixon, who they couldn’t possibly label as “stupid” so they had to resort to other labels. Unfortunately at least one other negative label proved to be fairly accurate.

After a while, the “stupid” label seemed to me to be less like a valid description and more like a “script” that is dragged out every four years to see how it played. That’s when I stopped listening to these things.

I believe it is counter-productive to routinely label those who have a different opinion as “stupid”. And from what I can see, only one political party routinely does this. Not a good plan from where I sit.

Let’s remember this post Monte RCMS, we must come back and boast on behalf of the underdog. 👍
What frustrates me with O’Donnell, Palidino, Angle etc is there could be better candidates.
Just because we don’t like who is in congress doesn’t mean we put up candidates who were not vetted…they are a little kooky to be honest. Palidino forwarding kinky and racial emails and accusing and then not accusing and re-accusing his opponent of marital infidelity with no proof is not just smearing, but sinful in my opinion. He also stated today that he himself has never had an affair, but we have already learned of his 10 year old “love child”

Then we have Angel saying she wanted to do away or privatize the VA on tape and then she denies she ever said it…With her it is same thing over and over again…its not winning strategy.

And O’Donnell as sweet as she may be, she is being caught over and over again lying about her education…electing someone who has a history of openly lying before the election and having financial problems is not wise…this is something that is making us all angry in the first place that’s why we want to get rid of all the incumbents.

Then in Fla you have Grayson calling his Republican opponent part of the taliban, that should be offensive to every American

There has to be better candidates on both sides, I just wish they would run

Definitely NOT going to be a senator.
I admit the massively negative publicity directed against her may (Again, MAY) indeed sink her chances of winning…but OTOH, folks said the same thing about her chances before she won the primary. You never know…🙂

Don’t underestimate voter anger against what Maher and others have done.

I am not in touch with any political ads for the Governor of New York. But I do hope that some outline Cuomo’s part in the financial meltdown, because he had a big hand in it.

Primary Voters are very different, they are the party purists. The General Election is a whole other story. But who knows, I don’t have a crystal ball but it doesn’t look promising, If I am wrong, I will supply my address for those of you who want to send me some crows for my supper.

That is your personal opinion but not the opinion given by some of the Catholic priests who voted for Obama. These priests have gone to Roman Catholic seminaries and received Church training in Catholic teaching. So they know what they are talking about.
Sid:
  1. Does not Holy Mother Church and its own Magisterium unequivocally and unambiguously OPPOSE Aborton and Birth Control?
  2. Does it not OPPOSE Gay Marriage? Unequivocally? And Gay “Behavior?”
If you know something about this that I don’t know about, please let me know. And I’m not necessarily being Sarcastic. I really mean that.

I’ll give you this, though:
The priests who did this MOST PROBABLY did this because they felt Obama’s other social policies that SORT came in line with their own beliefs were ultimately more “important” than Abortion and Gay Marriage. Like help to the Poor, and so on.

They may have been well-intentioned, but ultimately went against what the Church and Natural Law states.Things like “Obedience.” You know this, Sid.

One has freedom to ultimately vote for whomever one wants, but the Church has made it clear that one CANNOT vote for a candidate who supports abortion on demand.

Abortion is a “Non-Negotiable” posotion in the Churh’s eyes.

Same (I think) for Gay Marriage and Adoption.

BTW-
Just because these priests attended Catholic Seminary does NOT mean they’re automatically “immune” from criticism and even condemnation if they stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the teachings of their Church.

Great. First parishioners are “Cafeteria Catholics” and then Now we have “Cafeteria Priests.” Oy Vey.🤷👍

OrdinaryMelkite ~ Fr. Corapi (an orthodox - small o - Catholic priest) has been talking about the damage done in seminaries for decades. What you are talking about may be the fruits of that.

That’s why Fr. Corapi is so resolute in his teaching: “You can’t be Catholic and pro-choice, get it right once and for all.”

The bottomline is that pro-Choice Catholics are self-excommunicating themselves with their choice to support abortion or to support politicians that support abortion. No matter who they are.

Luckily for us, the sacraments do not depend on the worthiness of those administering them. As Fr. Corapi has taught, the sacraments operate under their own power. Thanks be to God!

I thought it was O’Donnell herself with her own words who said that she dabbled in witchcraft and had a date with a witch on a Satanic altar?
She has stated that that was a “boyfriend thing” and that it was back when she was still in school whe she did that. She has not dfoen anything “witchy” since then and is now a devout, uncomprpomising Christian.

Like I’ve said before on this thread:
Do you think REALLY think Maher released these tapes simply out of the “goodness of his own heart?”

Because he was going over the tapes and he just discovered an “Unusal” declaration from a future Gubernatorial Candidate?

The fact O’Donnell is A Strong, Devout Christian and Maher an Outspoken, Nasty, Sarcastic, Militant Atheist who wants America to go “God-Free” NOT a factor?

Really?😊

Yes, the public should have asked for a “clarification.” She gave it----ok, so because she dabbled in Witchcraft briefly in High School THAT shoul’d be held against her for the rest of her life?

Should Bill Clinton have the whole “Adultery” thing held against him for the rest of HIS life even though he was “Acquitted?”

Bringing up Dirt on candidates on BOTH sides of the Political Spectrum IS wrong, particualrly when the person who “did it” had an Agenda.

I agree on Palidino(it’s NY for you though what do you expect), as far as O’Donnell goes there is something we could dig up about everyone on this forum to spin around and make it look bad, and on Angle (running against Reid right?) I hope she beats the snot out of him.
Then we have Angel saying she wanted to do away or privatize the VA on tape and then she denies she ever said it…With her it is same thing over and over again…its not winning strategy.
Well, I could see why she would deny it, but I don’t see anything wrong with looking into better options for the VA. I could it see privately ran with public assistance like some other institutions and be better off than it is now. Anyone who believes the government is good at running anything needs to take a good long look into the current VA/Post Office/SS/Medicare/Medicaid.
And O’Donnell as sweet as she may be, she is being caught over and over again lying about her education…electing someone who has a history of openly lying before the election and having financial problems is not wise…this is something that is making us all angry in the first place that’s why we want to get rid of all the incumbents.
Seems to me the stuff is coming from web sites, that if they were even created by her, were created awhile back. I know I’ve messed around on those same sites and haven’t logged in for a good long time. There is no telling what I typed in there goofing around, hopefully I dont plan on running for office anytime soon.
Then in Fla you have Grayson calling his Republican opponent part of the taliban, that should be offensive to every American
Grayson…I think I heard him on the radio the other day, may not have been him, but he was saying something about his opponent was really getting down and dirty with the insults…I’m pretty sure it was a politician from Florida.
There has to be better candidates on both sides, I just wish they would run
Funny, I hardly hear about this kind of stuff coming from my state. Locally, somewhat…not too bad. Our state rep right now, a democrat, is a piece of work. When he got elected after the previous politician was killed in a tractor accident, he got to OKC and started talking smack about Republicans. That kind of stuff doesnt fly around here, he stands a good chance of being booted out this go around. We still know everyone, we know where they live and we aint afraid to call their momma and tell on them. So, I dunno, maybe that has something to do with the reason our politicians don’t behave so badly…they were raised right. 🤷

You may be right-----OTOH, personally I think that if she REALLY was as “Unelectable” as the “Intelligentsia” made her out to be, then she would not even have gotten past the Primary. I don’t care how “purist” one is. I could be wrong of course.

I remember when folks laughed their behinds off when Jesse Ventura (whom I don’t agree with, BTW) ran for Governor Of Minnessota. Then “gasp!!!” he ACTUALLY WON!

Apparently, voters saw something in O’donnell that you and I did not see.👍

Has that book been officially approved by the Roman Catholic Church and its bishops? Or is it just a bunch of wild unsubstantiated rumors? Why are people trying to tear down the Catholic Church with rumors and not support our priests?
Officially approved? No

Unsubstantiated rumors, having read the book it seemed well researched.

Are there better candidates?

Yes. But HE isn’t running for office this year. Of course, He is pro-life. He said some very cruel things about what He would do to people who corrupt children.

On the other hand, …

…So, some people are embarrassed by O’Donnell and by Angle and by Paladino and his assistants.

Did they drive off a bridge while drunk and abandon a co-worker to drown/asphixiate in the airbubble trapped under the roof of the car? Did a paramour shoot themselves with an untraceable gun? Did they sue pharmaceutical companies so many times that even though the drug companies won every time, they decided to withdraw helpful anti-nausea drugs for pregnancy from the market? Did they get discovered with $90,000 in their freezer because they used National Guard emergency services during essential rescue missions to collect the money? Did they get officially labeled a security risk? [That would be Senator “Leaky” Leahy.] Did they get a new nickname? [That would be Eliot (Love Client Number 9) Spitzer] And get a song made up just for them? OR, win THREE Purple Hearts and not spend one day in hospital? Are they taking money from George Soros for the express purpose of destroying the United States of America? Are they making up polar bear stories? Did they stab the dinner table with a steak knife and yell “Dead, Dead, Dead” at the names of their political opponents? Did they select as a candidate (and winner) … member of Congress a person who was only the sixth federal judge to be impeached and removed from office. [That would be Alcee Hastings] Or, created a new word for destroying a potential political opponent. [That would be “Borking”] Or, did their staff create a new expression: “containing bimbo eruptions”.

So, no one is embarrassed about these examples, but they are embarrassed about Christine O’Donnell and Sharron Angle and Carl Paladino.

Or that Sarah Palin didn’t go to Harvard or Yale and wasn’t president of the Law Review. [And didn’t seal their college records! ] Or that Christine O’Donnell took a while to pay off her college loans.

What is the matter with you???

The United States is in an economic meltdown and some folks are worried because the Republican candidates are not perfect. But the critics are perfectly happy with Democrat candidates who dismember babies to use for spare parts for human experiments?

Well said. Good show, Catherine D.🙂

Thanks OM. 🙂

Monte, you forgot “Did they ‘dabble’ in cocaine and later write about it in their book?” 😉

Monte, you forgot “Did they ‘dabble’ in cocaine and later write about it in their book?” 😉
Thank you for the reminder. The addendum will be incorporated into future editions.

Was also going to consider adding “but I didn’t inhale” … except I started laughing uncontrollably, was unable to breathe, and then started getting “symptoms”.

Maybe if I slap myself …

There. That’s better.

Thank you again.

I think our last two presidents both experimented with illegal chemical substances. Only one lied about being arrested, though. And it was not Obama.

George Bush stated that he had left his dissolute twenties behind and the conservatives were accepting of that. Now, why does the president not get similar respect and similar treatment?

Beau, the point is that WAY TOO MANY people are willing to give a pass to someone who “dabbled” in cocaine, but those same people are willing to excoriate a teenage girl for being involved in some silly pagan ritual for a brief period of time.

Do all of us want to have all our teenage silliness held up to public scrutiny? If not, then stop this silly business.

Some consistency is in order. If someone who played at some silly pagan ritual needs to be driven from public office, then SURELY someone who used cocaine should also be unfit to hold public office.

Unless, of course, one is a hypocrit and is willing to excuse one and continue to demonize the other. Bear in mind, we’re not even talking about “not inhaling” here. We’re talking about real cocaine use. “Dabbling” in cocaine v. “Dabbling” in whatever it is that O’Donnell is being accused of.

Cocaine is a seriously bad drug, some would argue it is a more difficult drug than heroin, which has been demonized for decades. Are you suggesting that cocaine use is ‘no biggy’, but playing at something that is probably one step above using a Ouija board is really serious?

So please, at least be consistent.

Let me start off by saying that I don’t condone Bush lying about his being arrested, IF HE DID.

And I would state that for both Republicans and Democrats.

I DO think the reason Obama is being criticized for his Cocaine Use is that the way in which he revealed this on the Book and in Public DID NOT leave much of an impression that he regretted it. It was like---------“Yes, I did cocaine and other drugs. I don’t anymore. So?” 🤷

Mitt Romney called him up on this early in the campaign, from what I remember.

Obama just came off like he was not realizing that he did something immoral and illegal. And that as the possible Future Head Of The Free World (which he was running for at the time) he had a reponsibility to “set a good example” and make clear to people of this country (particulalry the Youth) that Casual Drug Use was wrong and not to be done.

Bush (whatever you may think about his actions while President) never casually treated his Drug and Alcohol-Using Past that way. 👍

When Bush was a young man he was flying single-seater, single-engine supersonic interceptors equipped with radar-guided missiles. On alert. At night. In close formation. In bad weather. Over water. Without mid-air refueling. With complex computer/radar systems. A difficult set of skills for anyone to master. Not everyone has the ability to do what he did. It takes a lot of coordination and motor skills and judgement and the ability to learn very complicated electronics. So, I would suggest that the stories of Bush’s substance abuse was exaggerated, because anyone who was impaired would not have been able to get that F-102 off the ground.
