Suddenly, they file a lawsuit to get the divore records from the divorce of Gerry & Jack Ryan unsealed. Why would the Chicago Tribune be so interested in the divorce records of Jack Ryan, divorce is common place in the US today and I don’t remember anyother politician having their divorce records the subject of a newspaper investigation. How did the Chicago Tribune know that there was an embarrising fact in those records. HMMMMMMM!!!

You may know that divorce records are public in IL. Ryan had a CA divorce, a custody battle and the records were sealed. That makes folks curious. You may recall that Blair Hull, who lost the primary to Obama, also had embarrassing details in his domestic relations file. So, I guess the Tribune was looking in that area. Remember when Eugene Sawyer was mayor? His divorce records were investigated, too. Your conspiracy theory is further off because the Tribune was not the only plaintiff in the case.

There should have been many questions as to why he believed he could run the United States despite the fact that he never ran a business, an agency, a state. Where was the media on this issue.

Maybe they compared him to his opponent who, like him, was a senator?

This relates to to the thread in that it demonstrates the hypocrisy that we continue to see out of the traditional media.

I don’t think that will happen. There are a number of folks who are still highly ticked off because the majority of the 2008 voters didn’t believe the “birther” and “secret Muslim” stuff, and voted for Obama anyway.
That was an offense against their perfect wisdom, and they’ll keep hammering on it until the end of time.

Once upon a time there was a concept of “reasonable people can disagree.” That seems to have been kicked to the curb. There are way too many people, all the way through the political spectrum, who are positive that the only reason you could disagree with them is because you’re stupid/evil/rightist wingnut/leftist wingnut/fascist/communist/unpatriotic/etc. (pick your own combination for your insult salad).

So, instead of saying “I think he/she should/shouldn’t be investigated, you disagree, let’s see how it all falls out in the end,” it’s all high dudgeon about bias and unfairness and dirty dealing (only by the other side, of course, never by their own).

Which is why my political leanings, these days, are of the “a plague on both their houses” flavor.

1. The timing of the approval of the Wrigley renovations being approved and this lawsuit should at least invite some curiousity don’t you think. Also, in order for the story to have any real impact it would have to come from an impartial source.
2. I am no big fan of John McCain, however, the man was a decorated war hero. I won’t bore you with the details of his captivity, but, he stayed true to his country throughout the ordeal. Plus I believe he was a squadron CO,HE ACTUALLY WAS IN CHARGE OF SOMETHING!!!
3. Change the whiny record, sure when you and your cohorts stop whinning about FOX News, please this is the pot calling the kettle black.

1. I am a conservative who never bought into the birther notions or the secret Muslim stuff, the people you speak of are a shrill group. I rather wish they would go away. Those of us that did not buy into “Hope and Change” did so because we knew what was coming uber Kensyian economics with lots of government stimulus. It does not work, it has not worked this time and the time to stop doing it is now,
2. And when where these times where reasonable people could disagree? The dynamic in this country has changed so quickly in the last twenty years due to the rise of Cable and the internet. There was a time in this country you had three network stations on TV, a local station and maybe a PBS station. There was not very much discussion; you could write a letter to the editor of the local paper and they might print it. There was no public outlet for discussion. In 2010, there is an outlet that is why we are sitting here discussing this. The political dynamic has changed as well, after the start of the Great Depression the Democrats were the dominant political force and the “me too” Republican party was there as well, there was not alot of difference between either party. Today there is a larger difference. I think having clear choices is good.
3. I would love for the campaigns to be focused on the issues and ideology, I really believe that if you honestly laid out the conservative vision for America versus the vision of the Progressives the Conservatives would win.

The theology of the UCC is not that far removed from that of the Nation of Islam, excepting the racism. But you would know that wouldn’t you. I have known some Muslims who claim that one can be both Christian and Muslim. Depends on the Christology, of course. Definitely not Nicene at Trinity.

Why is it, Beau, that when people respond to an allegation of yours or other people or just bring something that is related to the thread (OBH’s qualifications ARE relevant in the sense of the issue of folks saying O’Donnell’s record is “insufficient” or “goofy”) you pull out the “Discuss the thread” or “That’s irrelevant, you’re derailing the thread” spiel. The issue is whether O’Donnell having experimented with witchcraft at one time in her life should be grounds for her (Now that she is a devout Christian) being automatically disqualified from running for Senate. Particulalry since the person who leaked the “witchcraft” has proven himself to be LESS than “partial” in his opinions and politics and also seems to be tyrying to be personally trying to inject himself into the Race. He is also trying to “blackmail” her into appearing on his show. Like it or not, Maher has proven himself to be more than just an “impartial observer.” He is an out-and-out Anti-Religion/Atheist/Agnostic militant and his motives should be questioned as such.

How OBH and other candidiates were or were not vetted fairly and totally by the media and public IS relevant to the discussion of whether O’Donnell was vetted fairly by the media and public. Deal with it.

Second, state senators like most other legislators are not in charge of anything like they represent their constituents but they aren’t managing anything.

Third, leadership is the ability to move a group or oranization in a common direction, how is it that you have to be an academic star to be a leader?

Fourth, I would prefer if none of our politicians were lawyers. This idea that you have to be a lawyer to serve in government is a fallacy. It would be better if there were people from all walks of life serving in congress or the presidency. The greatest President in my lifetime was an actor turned governor (an he did LEAD the screen actors guild).

Fifth, how is it that being a Professor is a qualification. What is it that professors do that make them leaders???

I watched a Harvard educated lawyer that didn’t know what he was doing blow $862 billion with little or nothing to show for it.
