Nope - they would still be the Falklands. Just because a country unjustly invades another’s territory doesn’t give them the right to change the name on all the maps of the world.
When the US invaded Mexico and annexed its territory, didn’t the Americans change the name of the conquered areas? Do you mean that the US had no right to call Arizona, by that name since it really was part of Mexico before the US invasion and annexation?

The heat itself is just hot air. But it does cause others to talk about issues related to the particular heat. Heat about Obama, the Church, minimum wage, ISIS, race relations, et al sometimes gets serious conversations going. Heat about Kardashian dates, travel, etc sparks coversations about nothing of any importance.

Even I will admit the drivel Sharpton, Matthews, and others puts out has more value than the Kardashians.
Yeah, I’m going to disagree on you because the debates are a sophomoric repeating of talking points while their audience treats the show as watching a football team. If they went away, we would lose nothing in the national debate that we couldn’t already get from the coverage from Britt Hume’s or Rachel Maddow’s news programs.

Okay, again, please document that if I understand correctly, using the word “Malvinas” is an instrument that Leftists use. Also, since you are calling them out, please say who.
I already called them out by addressing this point.
And this is the term that Obama used, which ought to give a clue of what is the motivation.
Also, since historically, Malvinas was probably used first to describe the islands and surely, thousands of ships and thousands of Sailors journeyed to South America, a largely Spanish speaking continent used the word Malvinas, please show us how if one uses the word “Malvinas”, this is “Leftists imposing their reality on a situation”.
The modern history of the islands started out as French.

For people to call it Arizona Mexico at this point would be a little bit provocative, to say the least.

I actually feel sorry for the Argentine people in all this. They are being manipulated by this issue so the government can get a free pass on the state it has brought the country down to.
That in a nutshell defines the motivation for the Falklands war. The government performs poorly, and then rather than address the issues of how they are ruining the economy and the country, they instead get the people all fired up by creating a false issue over a track of land that has no relevance to anything.

Thank goodness that doesn’t happen in the United States.

My point isn’t that these shows aren’t boring and stupid (they are–I quit watching them way before Colmes left Hannity–I didn’t even realize that had happened for years), but that the conversations they spark have more value than the conversations that the Kardashians spark. That’s my only point. I’m just disagreeing with your notion that O’Reilly and others have as little value as the Kardashians.

Rachel Maddow is news now?

Sounds like the land you speak of belongs to Spain going with this kind of line of thought. Of course, that doesn’t benefit your argument.

How about the Pope?? Does that give you a clue as to motivation as well? I assume he could easily say the same and no, that he is a native speaker of Spanish is not going to change the matter.

Montreal Canadians? Or CanadiEns?

It is a law to call Côte d’Ivoire that in that country but many will call it Ivory Coast as well without it being a great offense.

So, would you continue to call Nunavut the Northwest Territories, if you knew that it would be insulting to the people of Nunavut, who take pride in their political accomplishment?
Would you accept the Arab cartographic claim that Israel does not exist, and that the whole territory is called Palestine?

In Canada, it is always spelled Canadiens, because it is a proper name. English pronounce it Canadians, and French pronounce it Canadienn, with fully vocalized soft a’s, and a soft e sound at the end, again fully vocalized.

Fans just say Habs

If Nunavut is in use, that is what the people call it.

I have no idea what the intricacies of this situation are, so really can’t comment.

As to your example of Arab cartography, Israel is an established nation per the UN.

The UN calls the Falklands Islands, Malvinas as well. So I guess we have our answer.

The UN calls Israel an apartheid state as well.😃

It is all a question of sub-text.
Maybe Crossbones former post was really not a sarcastic jab against the United States either.

Falklands/Malvinas are neutral terms.

Mumbai India use to be called more commonly Bombay. It’s really about general usage, I’m sure Bombay was in usage when the British Empire was more in force.

However, there is still Bombay Sapphire Gin, I doubt if this is a slight to the people of India. I see nothing wrong in it remaining being called Bombay Sapphire Gin.

Seems like people want to discredit O’Reilly based upon his identification of a specific place.

So he is lying because he said Falkland and some wish to call it something else…

What a unique form of dishonesty.

No, you don’t have the story correct at all. You might research it. That is not why “some” would be saying he is lying.

What is going on in these pages, yes, is a bit of a side-track on the original topic.

You seem to complicate this issue by the confusing statements that you assert are “dishonest” when that is not what this is about.

O’Reilly to some, might be accused of being “dishonest” by some, not me, it’s not that important to me, because he seemed to say he was reporting from a war zone “In Argentina, In the Falkland Islands”.

But it is largely splitting hairs, O’Reilly himself did not go to the Falklands/Malvinas to report on the war, he was reporting from Buenos Aires.

I am disappointed in Pope Francis’ view on the Falkland Islands but I hope it would be an “evolving view” and he may not understand in full.

Pope Francis has been a vocal and passionate supporter of his country’s claim on the Falkland Islands, known as Las Malvinas to Argentinians.
But again, it is semantics as to how they are called.

It’s hard to extract the name of the islands, no matter where one’s stance is.
