There is no left-handed gene either, so there is no problem with my analogy.
I agree. That was my point. Just because I would not like it, others do and have been successful at it. To call it “harm” or the practitioner incompetent is just on opinion of those who disagree.
There is strong evidence that left handedness is related to testosterone levels during prenatally, also there is evidence of handedness in the womb, which indicate that it is a biological condition. There are also some morphological differences in the brain which have been identified. Nothing conclusive though. With a lot of this stuff, you take the bulk of the evidence. That is why blanket statements like there is NO PROOF OF THIS, mean nothing, unless the person making the statement is an expert in the topic.

These discussions can go round and round with people making unfounded claims, picking and choosing quotes and statements here and there which support their views. A good friend of my family has made part of her career studying left handed people and Johns Hopkins. She holds four full professorships, and has been made a baroness in the country of Belgium for her contributions to medical science. If she were here to offer an opinion, I would be inclined to pay attention to her.

The same is true with these blanket statements about sexuality from non experts. They don’t mean much other than that person has an opinion, which is fine. But it would be silly to mistake those statements as factual or authoritative statements.

It is a changing topic. There have been a number of genetic studies which have found correlates for homosexuality among twins, among uncles and nephews. There was a researcher who found some brain differences. My take on it is that there are no conclusive answers.

I understand why this issue would be such a heated topic among gay folks. I don’t understand why it can be such a heated topic among folks whom I would think have no real stake in the question.

For the third of fourth or fifth time… and this is the last time. I am not qualified to judge the treatment modalities employed by Dr. Nicolosi. The American Psychological Association, and the American Psychiatric Association - the two largest and most prestigious organizations in the world, and the authorities which set the medical standards for treating psychological problems - have both taken the unprecedented steps of specifically naming Dr. Nicolosi as a practitioner of harmful techniques.

Now will you please give it a rest. I have made my opinion clear. You tell us that you “parrot” opinions which you lack the expertise to understand. Fine. It is time to stop being a parrot. Let go of it.
You’re not qualified to judge the treatment modalities employed by these men but you repeatedly call them incompetent?? **
You don’t have an opinion on their case studies, yet you refer to them as quacks?

HUH?? 🤷

As for my “parroting” the research of 2 therapists – THIS is what takes place on a discussion board. We provide evidence for what we have presented. As I stated earlier – this may not be the best place for you to spend time if you can’t handle opposing opinions and points of view. Soitaire sounds more like something you’d enjoy . . .

Give it up Elvis. You are harping now. If you say things over and over and over and over and over and over… well the psychological community has a name for that too. It is time to stop the accusations and move on to another topic, don’t you think?

My sense is that while women may still be making less money than men for equal jobs, that this is often accounted for by seniority, due to child rearing practices. Also, I believe that the gap is narrowing and women continue to outnumber men coming up from the entry level jobs in higher paying positions, due to their higher rates of success academically. We have a crisis in this country for boys in schools. We are not meeting their needs. At the risk of sounding sexist, I think that women have designed our primary education systems, without understanding that boys learn differently than girls do. By the time people are college aged, then the boys are way behind the girls, on average. I have listened to conferences on this topic. It is recognized as an area of concern by educators. I have not researched it. It is just my take on things.

If someone makes less due to seniority, then they are not doing the same job. I do think women’s choices in child rearing practices affect their life time earnings.

I’ve heard about this but I’m not sure if it isn’t just boys looking for a high return on investment while girls want an education.

So I see you aren’t going to respond to my question then Stephen. Shame, you really had me going then by claiming you were more mature than I was.

👍
Spoken like a true traditionalist? How dare these women not act like timid little creatures! How dare they be angry when it is suggested that we are to blame for homosexuals! How dare they be angry at the suggestion that we moan about rape too much?

As far as I’m concerned being a feminist means that I believe I should have equal rights compared to men. However, to many on this forum it means I’m a lesbianist radical.

I’m also British, which apparently means I’m socialist.

I want equal rights, which apparently also means I’m socialist.

No - I’m not harping. I’m merely exposing you and your fraudulent accusations . . .

Harping with lots of different colored fonts! 😃

I’m not British, Lemon, but I’m half English ancestry, love the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Yes, ELO, the Who, Absolutely Fabulous, Benny Hill, Tolkien, Lewis, and Monty Python! 😃
What I like to hear! 👍

Feel free to join my group though, we do have some British fans as members. Theres a group called The Campionites as well if you’re a fan of us! 😃

I’ll only join if you have a bit of American fan in you, too! 😛 I do want to visit the UK one of these days (once my wife is done with the nursing program and we’re actually not broke anymore just living off my meager teacher’s income that I’m told by the Far Right is lavish and opulent! :p)…Being part English myself, there is a part of me that longs to see Great Britain…

The Kate Middleton stuff though, wow, that’s a could-care-less for me though!😃

I am a bit of a fan of Americans 😛 I would love to come and visit the USA once I’m finished training as a nurse.

I’m not very keen on the Royal Wedding either, though I am looking forward to watching it. :o

That is all well and good, my friend.
However, I have been asking the nay-sayers - ad nauseam
- what they think about the success stories of Dr. Nicolosi, NARTH, Joe Dallas and Genesis - and the scores of people they have helped.

It is one thing to try to smear their names, but you cannot simply laugh away their proof.
You’re right about that. I dunno, I am no expert in this field. I did some counseling work in Grad school but thats about it. I have to study developmental psychology as a nursing student.

So as for the success stories, if the individuals did truly overcome their same sex attractions, and it benefitted them morally and spiritually, thats great. We don’t understand the causes of homosexuality yet, and as I said already, both the ex-gay and the pro homosexual movements make assumptions about its causes. Maybe its a variety of factors, maybe those factors shape each case of homosexuality differently and uniquely. So perhaps some people can become ex-gay.

On the other hand, I have met many people that were emotionally and psychologically damaged by “ex-gay” or repairative therapy. Given the Catholic Church’s position in the matter, which is my own personal position regarding homosexuality, I cannot take the position that a homosexual has to become “ex-gay” to make it heaven. If homosexual, chastity is what God asks of them only. So in the ministerial work I have and continue to engage in, I tell people they are under no complusion to become ex-gay. I leave that up to the Holy Spirit. Christ made us fishers of men, but its the Holy Spirits job to clean the fish. We catch them.

Hope that makes sense.

Your are right, I think the seniority issue was with respect to position in organization. When you normalize position with seniority, then the findings were that women have better positions than men, on average. The factor related to lower seniority was maternity leave, and family rearing.

Boys learn differently. They are more kinetic, to cite one example. They are not too good at sitting still and listening to a lecture. Girls tend to be better at that. There is a lot on the topic, if it interests you.

My ancestry is almost all English. We had to wait until the children were gone before we could visit. We had a great time, except for one hair raising right hand turn.

… and with that statement to offer proof of my point.

You do not have the right to verbal abuse. You may find that people (such as your family) stop having to walk on eggshells around you if you get a handle on that. It is time to stop looking outward Elvis. Take a look inside. You might also want to take a close look at why you are so upset about the gay stuff.

Your comment made me think of National Lampoon’s European Vacation with the part where Chevy Chase gets caught in that traffic circle in London and keeps saying “Big Ben, Parliament!” over and over until he starts crying and having a nervous breakdown because he can’t get out of the circle! LOL
