Bishop Brandt Blocks Expansion Efforts of Nuns who Supported Health Bill

What did they think was going to happen? Go against the Bishops and still have your support from them? That was not a smart move.

I think it is sad that disagreements within our Church are carried out in public media. I don’t think this is good for anyone.
 
I can only applaud Bishop Brandt’s decision.
The entire horror caused by the nuns involved in Network remains deplorable.

You’re right. It’s truly sad when Catholics who dissent from the Catholic Church go public.
Praying for the conversion of those nuns who publicly supported the health bill and in so doing
went against the bishops …

Good for Bishop Brandt.

Admonishing sinners is a work of mercy, and as Fr. Corapi says, there are some people whose attention you can only get by hitting them between the eyes with a 2 by 4 (metaphorically speaking), and that God isn’t adverse to (metaphorically speaking) hitting any of His children with a 2 by 4 if that’s what’ll get their attention, and ultimately bring them to salvation.

That’s a courageous Bishop and thank you Lord for him.

These CATHOLIC sisters were told (as all Catholics were told) that supporting obamacare with its public and hidden goals of abortion services was forbidden to all - by our CATHOLIC bishops. They chose to support it anyway - therefore they chose obama and his entirely public “PP agenda” over Catholic teaching. You can deny (and so can they) but they clearly did it. A bunch of nuns saying ‘hey, bishops, we know better than you’ is a No-Fly decision in the eyes of the Church.
 
Keep in mind that the Bishop isn’t blocking **all **of the sisters’ (they aren’t nuns) expansion efforts. He is just declining to allow thier use of diocisan resources to do recruitment.

This congregation has acted in a way that was bound to lessen the trust the Bishop had in their committment to Church teaching. What did they expect?

But no poster on this thread has said that they are pro-abortion; the poster who was challenged, 4elise, had merely made the remark that the whole situation was very sad.

I’ve said it. By choosing politics and promises of more income for their hospitals, etc.,
the women in question have rejected the teachings of the bishops to support the agenda
of a man whose support for-and-by extensive abortion-providers reveals their own intent.
It might be described as a trade off between more money and fewer born-alive babies.

What vow of obedience have they broken? I am not aware that nuns are required to vow to agree with everything that a bishop says. The nuns had a different view of the effect of the health care bill. Lots of professionals analyzed the bill, and some came to different conclusions as to how it would effect abortion.

Bishop Brandt is within his authority to deny them support in his diocese, but to do so over this issue seems odd, to say the least. Is this the time to erect barriers to vocations to the religious life? And why - because they disagree with him on a very technical legislative interpretation?

These three nuns representing Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate, Monroe NY carry a sign showing Pope Benedict with some children and the words “Hope and Trust in Life.” They were in attendance at the March for Life rally in Washington, DC this past January 2010. I was also there, and am the photographer who took this picture.

… Another good option would be the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. I attended an Advent retreat with these sisters in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Just wonderful. There’s tremendous hope for our future based on what I’ve seen of these Dominicans, many of whom are teachers! 🙂

Granted, there may have been different conclusions by professionals who analyzed the bill before it passed. But the pro-life leaders and Planned Parenthood leaders vigorously voiced the same conclusion before and after the bill’s passage: It is a giant step forward for abortion on demand.

It’s a pity the good sisters’ discernment and “careful research” didn’t consider those perspectives, as well.
