If it’s truly THE devotion…why has it only been around for 500 years…

What were people doing before that?
do the 2000 year old words “… can you not spend one hour with Me…” ring a bell?

If we didn’t have Eucharistic adoration, then we wouldn’t need churches, would we? We would just need a building once in a while, here or there. We’re not long for this world, are we?

Jesus didn’t seem to separate things so much when the guy asked him which was the greatest commandment, did he? He said it was to love the Lord our God with our whole heart and soul and to love our neighbor as ourself. I don’t think there’s any time wasted meditating on the real presence. (and I didn’t say that somebody said that).

So, then we ignored that for 1500 years?
Do you realize that your argument is based on the fact that Eucharistic Adoration is only 900 and not 2000 years old? What kind of argument is that anyway? I mean the rosary isn’t 2000 years old…oops there goes it’s value. St. Therese of Liseux has only been a Saint for about a hundred years and a doctor of the Church even less then that…better not worry about what she has to say…Benedict XVI has only been pope for 10 months, better wait 2000 years before I read that encyclical. Come on do you really think something’s value depends on how long its been around?

You really know how to set up strawman arguments don’t you?

I don’t mean ignore it…but I’m curious why people would use the words of Jesus from some time ago, that the church has always had in its deposit of faith, to promote the SUPREMACY of this practice…not the legitimacy of it.

Sometimes the expression “to the best of my knowledge” raises the question in the recipient’s mind if there is any knowledge there at all!

I forgot to mention, in addition to Eucharisic Adoration from 1 - 6 pm on Wednesday, Feb 22nd, the family hour of prayer will be conducted from 6pm until time for Benediction. Remember, that is at St. Agnes, Sanford, MI!

P.S. Did you know that tomorrow is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes and that a Plenary Indulgence is being granted to one who will give an hour of prayer and perform a “work of mercy” for one who is in need - also the intention of the prayers will be for the mentally ill. Caregivers - don’t miss out on this great opportunity!

Its supremacy comes from the fact that it is God that is the center of the action.

I was simply bothered by the idea that adoration should come ahead of social justice
I rather think that the latter should flow from the former. If I adore Christ, manifest in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, am I not better formed to follow and obey Him, fufilling His commands to attend to “the least of these?”

It seems as if the Bishop is improving life in many different areas of the Church and community. Thanks for pointing out this article frommi. 👍
No one is surprised that Untener was one of the very worst. He deserved a lifetime achievement award from Amchurch, the Lambda Legal Defense Fund and probably the Democratic National Committee. He was the epitome of what is disgraceful in Amchurch at the Bishop level. It is a pleasure to read that he was replaced (as have many of his pals) by an actual Catholic.

Speaking of being an ‘actual’ catholic…judging by the vitrolic way you speak about people, I’ll assume you don’t consider yourself one.

The Saginaw Diocese is in the deep freeze! Lots of folks have lost power and heat in the house is a problem. The power company has everybody working but it will probably take two more days. Frozen pipes anyone?

oh!! we had that in south dakota in November/December.

I’ll pray for y’all that you can stay safe!

hello,
sorry to enter into the thread without a complete review of the past threads, (how many years?) but i’m curious;

would it be safe for a fairly conservative RC to return to mass at the cathedral?

i attended a few times, a year or so ago, with a fellow catholic crewmember (walked over from work) and thought that we had entered the “twilight zone”.

is the mass still “off-broadway” (consecration to the piano stylings of …)? is there still the designer host? is there a kneeler one? does everyone mimic the every move of the celebrant? is the priest merely an after thought? does he still sit and nod approvingly to our dear sister giving the homily?

thought the first time was a mistake. after the second time, i was certain of it. (mine)
I would love to return, and am hoping your new bishop has made some head way.

I attend daily mass at my home parish and long to receive the eucharist daily, but i’m afraid that it is heretical to ( in good conscience) attend a mass so contrary to the faith in which i was raised.

i am certain that the good people of the well intentioned parish and clergy have only love for Christ and his church at heart, but what happened?

would love to hear.

fcpilot: we are still rebuilding. Glad to have you join us. Its like a mini-schism took place over a long time. If the focus stays stuck on the “who, what, where and how” its like beating a dead horse and our souls need a break. Our good shepherd, Bishop Carlson, is in the lead and we are on the move (I pray!). Maybe someone else can tell you about the way it is at the Cathedral parish but your description fit many more parishes to a T!

There was no schism. Once again, exaggeration taken to new heights.
