Can’t remember where I heard this discussed, but I thought that ordination was treated a bit more like baptism, for exactly the reasons you raised. So long as the proper intent is there, mistaken or heretical beliefs on the part of any do not invalidate the sacrament.

If the action is out of malice, that would be a different issue.

Just what we need, a pile of ordained who got booted as quickly as they came in. They would then be valid but illicit.

I think that would be impossible to prove – except in rare, rare cases.

Something that we tend to forget is that teachers at the time were moved to other schools when caught molesting children. There were many teachers (yes I know of this from a family situation) that were asked to resign and given glowing refs so another district would hire them. Some of these people are now in admin positions some are still teaching with the highest salary due to years teaching.
So this is not just something in the Catholic Church or any other church.
Yes, Seattle Times had a series on this problem in Washington state schools. And we’re talking the 90s.

Of course, it’s not necessary to prove for the sacrament to be invalid. But in any case, after 8 years of seminary, I would expect that these would be rare, rare cases regardless.

The whole issue of the validity of sacraments performed (or conferred, or whatever the proper term is) by heretics was resolved in favor of the heretics during the period of Cyprian of Carthage, and Pope Stephen I.

However, just how misguided the recipient of the sacrament must be before proper intent is absent, is not clear to me.

I mentioned this before, but still I think they should do something about Catholic priests who say that they are Dracula and that gives them the right to homosexual sex. See the following:
ktva.com/Stories/0,1413,…2854324,00.html

And why not show some support for faithful priests? Please see:

Weird post!

The accused priest should be held accountable. The adult male who had sex with him should not exonerated. Sin is sin.
