Father, did you read both documents linked to in this thread?
- Areas of legitimate personal opinion/choices are rarely interfered with by the Bishop. However, while the bishop is not going to interfere with the pastor that doesn’t mean he won’t privately reprimand him for moving too fast or too abruptly but that’s never going to make it into the public domain, nor should it.
- It doesn’t appear, based on the bishop’s words, that much local dialogue has taken place and that another reason the Bishop will be reluctant to intervene. If the local community hasn’t even made a real effort to solve the issues on the local level then why should the Bishop swoop in?
- The allegations listed against the priests are rather vague. Its hard for the Bishop to act when there’s no specifics to confront. And the few specific allegations appear to all have been already resolved.
- I would be surprised if this resulted in any kind of “interdict” on any individual or group. These kinds of spats rarely rise to such levels and the Bishop made only passing reference to it.
