Bishop Vasa asks Catholics to affirm church teachings

Let’s try to imagine what our Lord will ask a Catholic bishop on their day of judgement.
 
Sure some people are going to lie on the document, but its a contract and upon breach of that contract they can lose their job. Good to see.

I agree, it’s difficult to hide divorce. Which is exactly the reason it’s such a risk for scandal. And that, by extension, is exactly the reason care should be taken not to hire people who will divorce frivolously.

Bear in mind that as a sacramental thing, divorce (understood as the cessation of marriage) doesn’t exist. Only death can end a marriage. As a legal institution, divorce simply amounts to the cessation of the legal obligations of marriage. Therefore, divorce is permissible only under the circumstances that would normally be allowed for a married couple in the Church to separate – abuse, infidelity, etc.

In that case, it’s not gossip getting them fired, is it? It’s the actual thing they did which was the object of gossip.

The bolded part is exactly what I meant when I asked if giving in to hostage takers results in more or fewer hostage situations. “Let them fornicate without consequence or the babies get it” is pretty much hostage-taking 101.

And the “honest teachers out the door” thing is silly. The point is those honest teachers shouldn;t be teaching children Catholic values at a Catholic school. It would be a positive to see them leave in this case.

This whole exercise is a reminder of how important obedience is in the Church. Today, too often, we think we can pick and choose when to be obedient to our Bishops. He is well within his right to do this if he feels it is needed, and we are called to be obedient.

People in any profession can always lie on forms. They still often have you sign the documents in question, and often affirm their truthfullness. To attack the Bishop on the idea when overlooking the many other professions who do the same thing, for universally less serious matters, is cherry picking.

Yes, those against this document are either heterodox or placing incorrect emphasis on extraneous matters.

Bishop Vasa:Some see this contract as an infringement upon the freedom of the “conscience rights” of teachers. So there is that misrepresentation. Interestingly, though I am asking people to include an addendum from the Catechism of the Catholic Church—which they object to—one of the objections they raise is “freedom of conscience”, and they go back to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and paragraph 1784, and cite that paragraph as a defense of their refusal to abide by this. They are rejecting the clear teachings of the Catechism [about contraception, abortion, marriage, etc.] and then are using the teachings of that paragraph of the Catechism to justify their objections! [Laughs] It’s almost as if the whole of the Catechism turns immediately into cotton candy in the face of that one paragraph.
