Now that’s telling your congregation like it is, without any sugar coating!👍👍👍

Our church created letters to our 3 house of reps and to our 2 senators and placed them in the Narthex. After Mass we were all invited to sign and place our addresses at the bottom of all 5 individual letters to be sent. I was surprised how many foks chose not to participate. 😦

There were at least 100 of each letter that was signed, hopefully today after Massmore will be signed and sent.

I am so confused that the ACLU will be all over a municipality for putting up a nativity scene, or having a prayer before a football game, but when the President DICTATES policy to religious organizations we can hear pins dropping all over the place. Where is that super power when you need it!!!
Perhaps they earn the monicker I have heard for them before: “Anti-Christian Liberties Union” or something of that sort. That does not surprise me but that doesn’t make it right.

I was under the impression that to keep their tax status, politics had to be kept out of the pulpit? Or do they only have to refrain from telling the congregation how to vote? This seems very political indeed.

I think they probably feel they are up against a wall anyway. I mean, when your religious freedom is threatened (and this hasn’t been the first incident with this administration) and your institutions’ very existence are threatened, tax status is down on the list somewhat.

No - to keep tax status the Church cannot tell their congregation who to vote for.

Political? This is an attack on religious freedom.

I am so tired of this “we can’t talk about it or we will lose our tax exempt status”. If that be the case get rid of it for it is a shackle on us.

““The only complete solution to this religious liberty problem is for HHS [the Department of Health and Human Services] to rescind the mandate of these objectionable services,” the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said in a statement.”

They are barred from campaigning, not from political issues, although it can’t be their main activity.

Here is the IRS website that explains it in detail.

Will people still keep supporting the Bishops? Going through the net it seems that right now the liberals are having a field day attacking the Bishops and all who had supported them- payback time already? Is this fight going to be over? Is it over already and will the American church be victorious? I hope the faithful remain supportive and loyal to the Bishops.

In case you need a warning from history, it took 27 years for the Amish to have their moral objection to Social Security recognized in law. This is not a short term fight, nor can it be left to the minority of Catholics who fully support the eternal truth of Catholic teaching that was confirmed in Humani Vitae.

Some of the Amish who object to all forms of insurance, and especially to forced insurance, suffered mostly in silence as their bank accounts were levied and their livestock, including the horses necessary to plow their fields, were siezed by the IRS and sold at auction.

Yes, it can and has happened in America already–your 1st Amendment rights are at risk from politicians who have their own agenda.

I agree completely…sometimes I think it’s a convenience so that the clergy doesn’t have to get involved. Then again, you do hear rumblings on Capital Hill about taking away their tax exemption whenever they breath a word. I used to think it would never happen regardless, that there would be too much of a backlash, but with this administration anything is possible. They seem to be dictating the rules to the rest of us.

Anyone see the Bishops’ rejection of the compromise as a win for the HHS mandate and the administration?
I think most Americans will see it that way.

They will see the Bishops rejection of it as now becoming more about contraception and less about religious liberty.

And many moderate, and certainly liberal Catholics, will feel the same way.

Rasmussen poll showed on Fox News today showed that 58% of Catholics polled think that contraception showed be covered by employers.

Yes, but even if 99% of Catholics wanted contraceptive coverage, it still is about freedom of conscience and something our forefathers tried to prevent government infringement upon. The bigger issue is “what’s next?” Government mandated Sabbath day to Sunday to prevent Orthodox Jews from closing on Saturday? No time off for religious services?

You can protest here and the system will select your rep. and Senators and send the e-mail to them. There are two bills from last year just sitting dead in Congress that could solve this if they would only move them along. This merely asks that the Senators and Reps. get these bills out of committee and be put to an up and down vote.

I urge everyone to use it – the U.S. Conference of Bishops has made this easy. The Church is asking for freedom of conscience.

Thank you all and God Bless.

Unfortunately that will be lost on most Americans, including many Catholics.

They will now see it, as the Bishops continue to push, as the Bishops pushing against contraception, and not the religious freedom.
