I have two thoughts on this. First, starting with the controversy over Notre Dame’s defiance of our bishop’s teaching, President Obama has done more to unite American bishops than anyone else.

Second, Bishop Zubik’s statement must remind the President of the style of Jeremiah Wright. This is about more than style. Bishop Zubik is on solid theological ground, when he suggests that following the president’s wishes and embracing grave evil does indeed lead to hell for those who know better. Any shepherd should get excited about that fate for a large portion of his flock.

Where are the people who defended this mistake of a President now? Strangely silent so far in these healthcare topics from the usual Obama defenders.
The people who adore Obama would defend him no matter what. They hate the church because it tells them that they can’t do whatever they want.

So, is the administration so naive or misinformed by dissident Catholics that they believe that the Church would compromise her fidelity to Christ and submit to the HHS edict? I think it is highly unlikely. So if the administration knew that the Church would not submit, why did they not expand the freedom of conscience exemption? Which of these is most likely, or am I missing something?..
  1. The administration is so beholden to Planned Parenthood and the abortion/contraception lobby that they had no choice but to risk an all out confrontation (war in Sebelius’s words).
  2. The administration is banking on and welcoming the complete withdrawal of Catholic institutions from the American public charitable realm (hospitals, adoption, woman’s shelters, family counseling etc. etc.) This has already happened in some adoption services. The goal would be to replace all charitable work done by the Church by government run institutions so as to increase governmental power and/or to effectively silence the moral voice of the Church in these programs and institutions.
  3. The administration and/or the forces that control or guide it seek the destruction of the Church. First by stripping her Christian witness and evangelization through charitable works, diminishing the Church to an institution for worship only; then stripping her ability to lead and administer the Sacraments by claiming discrimination based on gender and sexual preference etc. The governmental control of Religion as seen in communist China or the former Soviet Union.

I read the news report and unless its an interpretation based on actions of the Administration by the Church, I cannot find anywhere where the President actually spoke those words.

It is great too see the Bishops speaking out against this mandate!

I hope you don’t mind if I borrow this link to post else where. 👍

Where are the other bishops?

I think Bishop Dolan has been effectively speaking for the US Bishops. And his evaluation of the situation was backed by the Bishop of Rome, the Pope:
Pope Backs US Bishops’ Concern About Religious Freedom
zenit.org/article-34152?l=english
The Bishop of Rome said it is “imperative that the entire Catholic community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the Church’s public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres.”
“Of particular concern,” he continued, “are certain attempts being made to limit that most cherished of American freedoms, the freedom of religion.”
The Pontiff noted concerns about the right of conscientious objection on the part of Catholic individuals and institutions with regard to cooperation in intrinsically evil practices; and a tendency to reduce religious freedom to mere freedom of worship without guarantees of respect for freedom of conscience.

All were good choices, but I think this one is the most on the mark. I mentioned that way back at the beginning of the Obamacare debate. One of the goals is to drive out faith based groups and have the government takeover. The government can point to the withdrawal of the Church from healthcare, and then say “See, there just aren’t enough private organizations to help those in need. We–the government–need to step in and make things right.”

And those that say things like “There just isn’t enough private support” never stop to wonder why that is the case. It is things like this mandate that drive out private organizations.

I posted the links to Facebook…hopefully some folks will share and the snowball affect will take place.

God Bless you.

Bold Lettering Mine

Yes … the conversion experience of Newt… That is interesting. It appears to be genuine to me… Could we be seeing a new dynamic of the likes of Reagan and JPII if Newt were elected? 👍:)😃 I certainly do admire Newt’s unabashed stance on the Pro Life issues.
Yes, and he’s spoken a few times about the hypocrisy of the radical left and the MEDIA when they cry about gay rights and then they step on freedom of religion unabashedly.👍 He had a standing ovation for that one! Because it is the TRUTH and people that have been paying attention know that.

Yes. We must take the legal battle to them. Failure to do so will reult in loss of Freedoms not just for us but for all. Ultimately it will inexorably result in persecutions once again if we fail to resist valiantly.
We do…one of the problems however is finding enough lay soldiers to stand behind the Bishops. I heard a few interesting perspectives on the subject this past week. One Congressman on Relevant Radio said that the pro abortion lobbying in Washington was organized and relentless. Not so with the pro life side, and this does make a difference…good point! Another was the fact that a good number of Bishops in the recent past were giving the go ahead to contraception through their relative theology. And now, when they’re being asked to put their money where their mouth is, they are trying to rally the troops against it. I hate to say that I can see this logic as well. True, the tide is turning in the Church, thank you Lord! But some of the damage has been done. This point is well taken as I have seen first hand in my own diocese the very blatant acceptance of contraception (among other things) among the clergy. And so now, some people are saying…“what’s the big deal?” The relativism is coming back to bite them in the _ _ _ _.

A couple of days ago, one of my relatives said she would vote for Obama even though his economic policies are a disaster … BECAUSE she is such a big supporter of “a woman’s right to choose”.

That’s how strong the “abortion lobby” is.

And with all due respect, our bishops are too little and too late.

Very few bishops picket [or have picketed] abortion mills.

This coming election in November 2012 is going to be a really big deal.

I only hope and pray that our voters have not been so propagandized that they recognize the importance of voting the Obama administration out of office. AND holding his replacement’s feet to the fire to reverse the terrible terrible laws and bureaucratic rules that have been imposed on this country.

Again, we are seeing the fruits of the fundamental belief system of Obama …
Islam as well as mormonism condemn all who do not belong to their faith as meant to be in hell …

Thus , any one who chose to serve an administarion with such values - do we need to be surprised where their hearts are …that they are hardened like grains of sand or salt ,that refuses to see the truth as to how destructive these coerced practices are , primarily for women, as well as for families - studies that show how even teens become immoral, when parents contracept - no wonder either , when the demon of lust has been invited in !

Timely words from Pope Benedict - on danger on faith being destroyed worldwide -

catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1200352.htm ; such , definitly can be an effect of contraceptive use and the powers be , likely know it well too !

Romney care , being in a Catholic state - what would the motives have been !

All the destructive court trials that The Church went through there during his time - was there a connection !

’ By defending the foundational values of faith and church tradition, we defend man and creation ’ - there is the mandate for those who care about the earth and about man …

do we need any other words of light , to know what we ought to do , if we pay attention as to which of the candidates seem paasionate , like a prodigal son that returned starving !

We cannot afford another Iraq - just that , this time , Iraq might be lot closer to home , if we do not pay heed !

Well, come to think of it - Iraq is already here , in a mittened form , for the unborn and for the parents of those unborn , who go through all the reported ill effects of wrong choices - breast cancers , depressions , demonisations, famiily breakups , eating disorders…

( MIchelle, are you listening ! )

We need leaders who know how to repent , to open grain sized hearts , to the flow of grace …

May the love and prayers of our Mother help us !

“To Hell With You” By Bishop David A. Zubik

diopitt.org/hhs-delays-rule-contraceptive-coverage?utm_source=LifeSiteNews.com+Daily+Newsletter&utm_campaign=12ec078e11-LifeSiteNews_com_US_Full_Text_01_26_2012&utm_medium=email

It is really hard to believe that it happened. It comes like a slap in the face. The Obama administration has just told the Catholics of the United States, “To Hell with you!” There is no other way to put it.

In early August, the Department for Health and Human Services in the Obama administration released guidelines as part of the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The guidelines mandated that by Summer 2012 all individual and group health insurance plans, including self-insured plans, cover all FDA-approved contraception, sterilization procedures and pharmaceuticals that even result in abortion.

A million things are wrong with this: equating pregnancy with disease; mandating that every employer pay for contraception procedures including alleged contraceptives that are actually abortion-inducing drugs; forcing American citizens to chose between violating their consciences or providing health care services; mandating such coverage on every individual woman without allowing her to even choose not to have it; forcing every person to pay for that coverage no matter the dictates of their conscience.

Let’s be blunt. This whole process of mandating these guidelines undermines the democratic process itself. In this instance, the mandate declares pregnancy a disease, forces a culture of contraception and abortion on society, all while completely bypassing the legislative process.

This is government by fiat that attacks the rights of everyone – not only Catholics; not only people of all religion. At no other time in memory or history has there been such a governmental intrusion on freedom not only with regard to religion, but even across-the-board with all citizens. It forces every employer to subsidize an ideology or pay a penalty while searching for alternatives to health care coverage. It undermines the whole concept and hope for health care reform by inextricably linking it to the zealotry of pro-abortion bureaucrats.

For our Church this mandate would apply in virtually every instance where the Catholic Church serves as an employer. The mandate would require the Catholic Church as an employer to violate its fundamental beliefs concerning human life and human dignity by forcing Catholic entities to provide contraceptive, sterilization coverage and even pharmaceuticals that result in abortion.

Now, true , Gingrich does not look quite starving - he hopefully does do some fastings , esp. before debates etc too , to bring on a more focused strengt as well as power to take on powerful adversaries who do use fastings in their disciplines …

Meanwhile, rest of us could offer up same , on behalf of those who need be free from enemy deceptions and plans too !

This perfectly illustrates the wisdom of former popes and the consequences of 44 years of disobedience to the Holy See. Who rejected Humanae Vitae and openly defied it?

We reap what we sow and I fear, the worst is yet to come.

Has there ever been a poll done of Catholics who try their best to follow Church teaching?

Obama has made this announcement in an election year because he has been reassured by certain Catholics that only a minority of Catholics would oppose this.

Are we really that small of a minority?

Has anyone seen any polls?

I hope that Catholics - blinded by ideology - who put this man into office, have by now had their eyes and ears opened. He is not to be trusted or believed.
