Bishops rip HHS mandate That Forces Coverage of Birth Control, Abortion Drugs

Our Bishop had all his priest in their homilies bring up this issue and the threat to religious freedom it presents. My 6 year got upset and scare about this and I had to take him out side and explain to him what the Priest was talking about in terms he could understand. He loves Starwars and I informed him that our President is acting like a Sith Lord and is trying to attack the Church like the Sith attacked the Jedi. And as Jedi we have to stick to our principles and follow Christ. I also said unfortunately we had inside that church worshiping along side with us many who have gone to the dark side and will support attacks against their own church because they have gone to the dark side. The Priest is hoping to change the hearts of such people.

More on topic, if this administration in truly intent on attacking the Church then I believe it is time for the goats and the sheep in the Church to go their separate ways. I do believe there is possibility of a split over this issue that will occur in the Church.

It depends on how strongly Obama feels about it. If he vetoes the legislation, we’ll need 2/3 in both houses to override. The House will be no problem, but the Senate is dicey. Honestly, I have to think that the Democrats don’t want to alienate such a large number of Catholics, and they may be discussing with Obama right now how they can get out of this. To save face, he’ll have to make it look like he’s giving it up in exchange for something else.

It doesn’t matter to me. Obama has permanently alienated me with this. I won’t vote for him even if the Republicans run a monkey (and it looks like they’ve given that serious consideration this primary season).

It’s on hold for now. I suspect that the court will eventually have to vote on it. In MA and other states this is old history and the court has tied our hands on the matter for years.

I don’t believe that Senator Rubio’s legislation needs to be successful; this is going to land in federal court and is going to be batted back and forth between the Church and the administration in the appellate system all the way up to the Supreme Court where–unless some sort of incredible and cruel twist of fate happens–it will be struck down once and for all.

Many of the parishioners are still clueless about HHS. What can we do? Our pastor is always known to be politically correct, never takes any side.

Some our parishioners attended Mass in another church within the same diocese, and the pastor gave a serious talk on HHS, urged all congregation to oppose HHS and got a standing ovation. I know it is useless to talk to our pastor, he will not budge, and he will keep silent, very silent…

I can sympathize. I believe our Pastor is the same. All in for social justice (immigration etc) but very politically correct. We have not heard a word, except from one of the Deacons who emailed one of the ministries with information. I emailed the Cardinal to see if he was going to put out a statement, he finally did but not to the individual parishes.

So now…my mission is to email my Pastor and respectfully ask him to put the word out to our Parish. He is not overly warm to me or H as we have approached him before about the Campaign for Human Development…had kind of a running conversation on email about some of the anti Catholic groups they have supported in the past. Always charitably, but in disagreement as to giving to such an organization until they prove worthy of our money. Guess you could say we have not really burned but scorched some of our bridges. Might not matter anyway depending on what side of the fence he sits. I might be sunk.

Army Office of the Chief of Chaplains warns Catholic priests:

The emerging conflict between the Catholic Church and the Obama administration may have a new front: in the U.S. military itself.

The Catholic Church is fighting mad about an HHS ruling that would have them buy insurance for things they consider sinful–contraception, sterilization and abortion.
All the bishops in the country sent out a letter to be read in their parishes promising that the Church “cannot-and will not-comply with this unjust law.”

Even Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who is in charge of Catholic military chaplains sent out the same letter. But after he did, the Army’s Office of the Chief of Chaplains sent out another communication forbidding Catholic priests to read the letter, in part because it seemed to encourage civil disobedience, and could be read as seditious against the Commander-in-Chief.

More than one Catholic chaplain who spoke to us off the record confirmed that many chaplains disobeyed this instruction and read the letter anyway. Others sought further instructions from their Archbishop. Now after much behind-the-scenes bureaucratic wrangling, a new version of the letter will be read, one that was edited of the language about “unjust laws.”

A new statement issued this afternoon from Archbishop Broglio’s office acknowledged the interference this way: Archbishop Broglio and the Archdiocese stand firm in the belief, based on legal precedent, that such a directive from the Army constituted a violation of his Constitutionally-protected right of free speech and the free exercise of religion, as well as those same rights of all military chaplains and their congregants.

Following a discussion between Archbishop Broglio and the Secretary of the Army, The Honorable John McHugh, it was agreed that it was a mistake to stop the reading of the Archbishop’s letter. Additionally, the line: “We cannot-we will not-comply with this unjust law” was removed by Archbishop Broglio at the suggestion of Secretary McHugh over the concern that it could potentially be misunderstood as a call to civil disobedience.

I would tell him that he might want his parishioners to contact their reps about supporting the “Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2012” that is now in Congress (and will go to the Senate) Of course it goes without saying, do this in a very gentle and charitable manner. He might at least put something in your bulletin.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I know too well about the possible response. During the past, one of our parishioner (parishioner A) said to the other parishioner (parishioner B) about Obamacare contains abortion. Parishioner B who is a Obama fan, told the pastor. The pastor got angry at parishioner A and told parishioner A “never do such a thing again” in a furious manner.

You are blessed to have a priest slammed the Obama administration. This will never happen with our pastor. Ours have a track record of not taking stand and not offend anybody. I am surly glad not every pastor is so politically correct.

Of course, I don’t mean instead of traditional channels but in addition to. And those who are online can always talk to those who are not.

But more importantly, this is likely to be the start of a long war. Or, perhaps to be more precise, this is an escalation in a long running culture war. The enemies of Catholicism are well organized and funded. And I am afraid most Catholics don’t really understand what is at stake and what it means that this latest line has been crossed.

I am not a lawyer, but I have read somewhere if Catholic organizations do not provide the immoral health care, they pay $2000 fine for each employee. I don’t know how long that $2000 covers, each month? each year? If someone has the knowledge, please help us understand.

More importantly, this fine is, for all purposes, an imposed insurance coverage for the very “health” services that the bishops are complaining about. In other words, you can buy insurance or you can pay the fine but either way you will be funding ABC now that it has been declared a health care right.
