wademann,
Do you deny that BY and those that followed him said and taught was is attributed to them?

Do you deny that the LDS was the last of the large denominations to allow minority males to be ministers?

Do you deny that Mormon doctrine still says that dark-skinned people bear the curse of Cain?

Now I am not saying that the LDS is racest today. On the contrary, they have made great strides in reaching out to minorities. However, the attitude that existed as late as 30 years ago is not gone completely, and neither are the actual teachings.

If there is a better explanation, please let me in on it. Really.
Better explanation is because they’re lied to. Or at least, not told the full picture. How many of the very young missionaries that show up at your door actually know the history of their church?

I look in the mirror, and I see one reason why I refuse to become Mormon. (No, I don’t think I have any black ancestry.) Same difference, and how can you assume? You only presume.

Some people who have 100% European ancestry aren’t racist. Because how can even they know for sure?

And I understand that many LDS of color believe that racism is a consequence of the sins of their ancestors. They therefore accept it. And compulsively baptize their ancestors over and over again to erase the curse. If that is not self-hatred, I don’t know what is.

Get over it!! Racism is a sin. Victims of racism are not the sinners, unless they refuse to resolve any bitterness. And people have the right to defend themselves against racism by Mormons without being called liars.

That is heartbreaking. 😦

All that info, yet they still join. Makes it even more amazing. They can see what you can not.

Self-hatred? Otherwise, why would they buy into a religion that says God made them black because their ancestors displeased Him?
Degrading every black member of the church with one broad racist brush does not explain it. Is that all you got?

actually it’s just the opposite. some don’t care about the past and are in the category of “liberal mormons” who (much like cafeteria catholics) are content pick and choose what they like about mormonism and live in the moment.

some (and this is not unique to mormonism but it might be more common with them) join for need reasons. the church takes care of them so they’re mormons.

some (and this is common to many churches) join for social reasons.

sadly some are there for a self-loathing form of guilt expiation. they truly believe that they were “less valiant” and this is their “penance”. they are desperate to “earn” their salvation as well as that of their ancestors.

some are just flat out deceived by orwellian teachers and clueless missionaries who actually believe that “we don’t know much about that”.

Wow, you guys are so much more superier, that you can tell us what, why and how they believe. Incredible!!!

Interesting, and they never figure it out the rest of their lives. Which category does Gladys Knight and Thurl Baily fall under, from what I see they are very intelligent and happy people.

You’ve got to be careful with that stuff. When you assume that a person who is in a racial minority is smart and they don’t fall in line where everyone else says they should be and they don’t think like others tell them to think people tend to get upset. After all how could a thinking person come to a conclusion that their injustice fighters did not hand to them? 😃

figure what out? they make choices as i showed you. why are some nobel prize winners atheist? islamic, etc.? people make bad choices all the time. it’s not about education or intelligence always. sometimes it’s psychology, or sociology or just bad judgement.

Gladys knight is an entertainer. why are tom cruise and john travolta scientologists? they seem intelligent and happy… scientologists never figure it out the rest of their lives? or do you believe scientology is a valid religion?

A lot of what BY is supposed to have said can not be verified and many seek to make a mountain where a mole hill may not even exist.

I’ve not checked on when what church let who do what. I don’t care much. When the Lords Prophet stated the Lords position in the issue the church responded.

I’ve seen nothing that says that anyone currently bears any specific curse.

Now there are people in the church who are sexist and raciest we also have kidnappers child abusers and murderers (though they often get booted out). A person with a problem being in the church does not make the church that problem.

At least as long as the BoM has been published the church has taught that salvation is for all. Many tend to ignore that teaching when attacking the churches positions and history, but it is and has been there.

well we don’t need to go down that path because more recent LDS leaders have preached, taught, expounded and exhorted on this subject. Joseph fielding smith, mark e petersen, bruce r. mconkie, ezra taft benson, spencer kimball. it’s easy to see what was taught.

Perhaps, but there is a lot of smoke for no fire.

Ok

Have they recanted the curse of Cain being dark skin? Or the lines in the scriptures equating skin tone with soul condition?

Actually, all churches have sinners. There is no issue with this statement at all.

Salvation may have been for all, but in denying the priesthood to otherwise elidgeable males, was everyone made to feel at home?

Maybe because they checked it out for themselves and discovered that even though there are people in the church with problems, and even with half truths, from hate spewing bigots, like yourself, they couldn’t deny the spirit, and against a whole lot of reasons to ignore what they felt, they made the couragous decision to join the so-called all-white church.
