Someone took a photo of herself and her husband playing the Virgin Mary and Joseph when she is far too old to have children. She pretended to be pregnant! Is that blasphemous? I got snapped at when I said that I thought that it was! What do you think?

I am going to try to delete this topic now in case my relative sees it. I didn’t tell her what I thought - I told another member of the family. I am not sure how t delete it?

How would it be blasphemous? We’re they doing something inappropriate or irreverent?
 
is it blasphemous for a 9 year old girl to play the Blessed Mother then, as well?

There needs to be a Vatican approved age ratio for live nativities.

No it is not blasphemous for people to play Mary and Joseph.

I think you need to talk to your pastor about your skewed view of blasphemy if you really believed that something like this rose to the level of blasphemy.

She is over 60 and pretending to be pregnant - the photo is meant to be funny. Anyway, I do
think that it is, at least, a bit blasphemous? The family thought that I was being Puritan.

Elizabeth! The Lord did not mind her bearing John the Baptist. I would be thankful that a good woman of any age would portray our mother.

No, it isn’t blasphemous. You’re pointing out something quite minor and criticizing it for no good purpose and coming across as holier-than-thou.
 
I don’t think you understand the meaning of the word blasphemous.
 
Maybe, the family was right then. The photo was meant to be funny, though,
so I am still not happy about it. However, I am probably taking it too seriously.

They meant it to be funny, so I do think that it’s irreverent, at least.
 
If it was as a joke then maybe it is blasphemy. You know better since you saw it.
It’s more like a metaphor otherwise, like in school plays. It has nothing to do with age. Some of Theotokos icons depict her as old signifying her wisdom. St. Anne was old also. But maybe you mentioned her age to hint at the underlying message in their picture? Like mature people irony? Is this what you meant?

Oops if it is funny then probably ain’t good. I get you. Is hard within the family and because they are mostly older than you they won’t take you too seriously. But if you insist they will mock you too.
Maybe that’s one way of coping with it accept to be mocked together with God and ask for the grace to be glad about.
Ive been thinking … if God knows everything and Mary is next to him then both must know all the jokes about them especially on the internet where everyone is loose. I imagine they are sad about it but also thar they do know to cope with it since it doesn’t look like it is gonna stop any time soon. There must be a grace by now of how to not be engulfed in anger over all of this. Most of the jokes are so dumb also, made up by people with sky rocket IQ. It is so absurd. Maybe they just smile vaguely over it. Or shrug. Maybe she shrugs and He rolls His eyes at it. I wonder if there is an Aramaic word for…" whatever!"

Or maybe I too am infected with blasphemy just for feeling tired in front of it. 😐
