Has anyone ever heard of this group?

They claim the Book of Mormon has nothing to do with the LDS church. Here’s a quote from the website:
Christians should know that the Mormon Church is not based on The Book of Mormon. The things which Christians find despicable about the Mormon religion were not derived from The Book of Mormon. Mormons have been using The Book these many years to do one thing - gain converts. It is now time for Christians to claim The Book as their own, and use the converting power it contains FOR CHRIST, and not for doctrines it does not contain.”
The site denies the mormon prophets, temple ceremonies, and the plurality of Gods.

This is just another fruit of Protestantism. With no Tradition or authority, one might as well add new books to the Bible, or even get rid of some as the original Protestants did with seven OT books, or these guys do with Revelation:

I suppose a person could make this case rather easily. In one of the early sections of the Book of Commandments Joseph Smith supposedly was told he would have no other gift given to him other than translating the Book of Mormon. That was changed in the Doctrine and Covenants. My guess is that Sidney Rigdon planned on taking over after Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, but Smith outfoxed him.

LOL, that was interesting. Exploring the site more deeply turns up more interesting detail. That site is either the front for a new (or old) breakaway Mormon group; or it could be by come crazy Protestant group who had figured it might be a novel way of trying to undermine the LDS Church. Very amusing. 😃 🙂 :whacky:

No more amusing than the LDS Church itself.

Even if I were to again come to believe in the Book of Mormon by some miracle, I would not become a member of the LDS Church. In the Book of Commandments, chapter 4, it claims God told Joseph Smith:
…and he has a gift to translate the book, and I have commanded him that he shall pretend to no other gift, for I will grant him no other gift.
In Doctrine and Covenants section 12 this verse is changed to say:
And you have a gift to translate the plates; and this is the first gift that I bestowed upon you, and I have commanded that you should pretend to no other gift until my purpose is fulfilled in this; for I will grant unto you no other gift until it is finished.
So what did God tell Joseph Smith? Did God change his mind between 1829 and 1835? This is only one of several changes that took place between the original revelation in the Book of Commandment and the rewriting in the Doctrine and Covenants. Even if the Book of Mormon could somehow be true, it was supposedly Joseph’s only work that God asked him to do.

This was probably written this way because the plan was that Sidney Rigdon would take over once Joseph produced the Book of Mormon. Poor Rigdon got rolled.

One of the things that have always been interesting to me is the splinter groups like Temple Lot and so forth. Having read the BOM, I remember thinking that if THAT was all they believed different, it would not cause such a stink.

The original protestants didn’t ‘throw out’ what the didn’t like. For right or wrong they didn’t consider than canonical as they didn’t appear on Hebrew texts, but appeared on Greek texts.
I personally have no problem with the apocrypha, and I’m a protestant.

Every author has the right to edit his own work; and so does God. If you wrote a book, you have every right to revise and edit it ten years later, rewrite it so that it looks completely different, and publish it as a new edition of your book. If you have that right, why do you think God shouldn’t?

What did you find funny, amusing or whacky?

We are what it says - Christians who believe in TBOM, no hidden agendas, sorry.

Let me restate your point - the divisiveness among the followers of Joseph are because of his doctrines - not The Book of Mormon. (TBOM)

It is true, had they followed TBOM, those factions would not exist.

How gullible do you think we are? Joseph edited it for his own purposes.

Sola Scriptura Protestants say the same thing. Oh, and welcome by the way. So, for the sake of discussion, why would God bring forth a new book that He knew would have this result? Those factions DO exist. In my readings, is there a MORE splintered movement that the Latter Day Saint movement in such a short time.
LDS
RLDS-trying their best to be liberal Protestants
Elijah message churches-John the Baptist appearing to people still and they have 3 or 4 factions etc
Temple Lot-nothing to strange about them but quite small
FLDS
and on and on.
So is your contention that this was part of His plan? What happened?
🤷

you seem to be an intelligent fellow to believe such apostasy. heretics emerged even in Jesus’ time. apparently they never die, they keep on pounding to trap the gullible ones. a convert to Catholicism once said; “life is short, but eternity is forever.” how true to take light where your soul may end.😦
God bless.

Much appreciated!

Though God is omni everything, let’s not rule out free will or the existence of an adversary.

As the Second Witness to the Bible, there were causalities, unfortunately.

TBOM is a misused book.

To be clear, we are not supporters of Joseph’s churches, and no, TBOM has nothing cultish, weird, or LDS in it.

LDS, RLDS, COJC, and other ‘Restoration’ groups do not follow the teachings in TBOM. They do use it to gain converts however.

Every Christian should use it whenever the Bible, or the resurrection of Jesus Christ is called into question. Not for church building as Joseph did.

What did you find funny, amusing or whacky?
You don’t understand the Book of Mormon. If you did, you would know that the Book of Mormon is inseparable form the Restoration.

What is exactly your religious affiliation?

I can’t speak for all Book of Mormon Christians, but they are in most denominations.

A percentage don’t go to church at all.

How fun.

Define the word “restoration” so I can give an intelligible answer.

Restoration of everything. Restoration of the priesthood. Restoration of Apostolic authority. Restoration of the sacraments. Also restoration of the house of Israel. It involves a lot of things. This quote sums it up:

Acts 3:

21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

I need to log off right now. I will be back later to continue the discussion.
