I’ve read them, because I have a fascination for really, really badly written books.

I don’t think the Church cares if you read books on vampires, but I wouldn’t recommend these. They’re horribly written. Worse than Dan Brown, worse than Stephen King; they’re basically published fan fiction.

I haven’t read or watched Twilight, and have no desire to, but I have, and have watched many times, “The Lost Boys” and “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.” 👍

Now, if you were one of those kooks who drank blood and slept in a coffin (and I saw something on the Discovery Channel once about people who actually did ) - then I would think you had a problem. 😉

If you enjoyed the movie, do read the books because there is much more to the book that you would enjoy. My wife and I both have read them. I really didn’t want to, but she kept pushing me. Finally started reading them then couldn’t put them down.

God bless,
Jesse

I’ve read them too, and they’re not what I would call the “best written books ever” (:p) but they’re fun and entertaining. I liked them much better than the movie. I wouldn’t worry about whether or not you’re sinning if you read them or anything like that, though.

Yeah you’re definitely on the mark with the fanfiction bit. I got curious as to why my sister (and even my mother >_<) were reading them but not even the first few pages could grab me. It just reminded me too much of the romance stuff I’ve read in FFN. The only difference between that and Twilight is that Twilight isn’t yaoi.

Even if the church said it wasn’t ok to read books about vampires it still wouldn’t matter> cause the twilight books/movies aren’t about vampires.

While they aren’t great literature, it is a fun story to read. If you enjoyed the movie, then read the books. I <3 the books but the first movie left me frustrated with all that it could have been but wasn’t. Next movie looks to be much better.

The Church has no judgment on the Twilight series, but an ex-Mormon has confirmed the books are full of Mormon doctrines (here). The article contains vulgar language and a few instances of blasphemy, by the way. Basically, it shows how Edward is like Joseph Smith, the Mormon-type marriage between the vampire and Bella, etc.

My brother likes vampire novels. He’s really into the Laura Hamilton series…I never liked them. He told me about “Twilight” right when the last volume went to press, “Breaking Dawn”…he said if I could get past the first 100 pages of “Twilight”, I’d enjoy the series…so I found them in the Goodwill…except for “Breaking Dawn” and began reading them…I almost quit several times…I was sick of the “teenage angst” of the first 100 pages of “Twilight” I couldn’t almost make it…but I did…and I was pleasantly surprised. The books are entertaining and a fast read…a new twist on the whole vampire mythos.

The only other books I liked as well was “Rulers of Darkenss”, “Daughter of Darkness” and “Lords of Light” by Steven Spruill.

If you want a relaxing night reading and listening to music…the “Twilight” series is the way to go…fun, fast and easy to read…with an interesting twist on the myth.

Yeah, sorry; I couldn’t get past the first fifty pages. Ms. Meyer’s prose is so purpley. Okay, so Edward is gorgeous; we get it! And honestly, I heard what she did to vampires when they go out in the sun, and I was not amused.

Now, I have heard that the writing gets better as the series progresses, but still, not my cup of tea. Bella seems Sue-ish and Edward seems manipulative. No, thank you. My sister has read them, and tells me things. So, I’m going off what she tells me.

Well, New Moon and Eclipse are the best written of the books. Breaking Dawn was rushed it seems…lots of grammar errors and typos, and it’s WAY too wordy in certain parts. So, I would list the books in this order if I wanted to put best written to worst written:

New Moon, Eclipse, Twilight and then Breaking Dawn. I liked the story in Breaking Dawn, but she could have done it in about 100 less pages and it reads like it could have used quite a bit more proofing

I have no clue why I like this series so much, I’m one that usually only ready classics or “smart” books. A friend of mine kept telling me to read them, so i finally started. Maybe I enjoyed reading something easy for a change, I don’t know. I just know that I really enjoyed the first 3 (haven’t read the last one yet). I especially like New Moon. I just find Jacob to be way more interesting than Edward.
I definately like the movie version if Bella better than the book version. In the book she is wayyyyy to swooney.

I recommend these books very highly. I don’t think it matters if they “secretly” have Mormon doctrine in them, because they very openly have Catholic doctrine in them. Repeatedly the characters emphasize the importance of self control, and of resisting temptation. They also make clear over and over that people who resist hurting other people get along better and are happier than people who succumb to the temptation to hurt other people.

Does anyone else think that book was absolute drivel?

The characters are flat.

The relationships are bogus.

The dialogue was painful and fake.

It drones on and on with useless details and observations by Bella that contribute nothing to the story. That aspect kinda made me want to strangle her and tell her to shut up.

There is no basis for Edward and Bella’s ‘love’ for each other, if you can call it that.

I don’t get it.🤷

WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE THESE BOOKS?

I actually had the rest of the series in my wish list on paperbackswap.com, assuming I’d love the books like everyone seems to, and I deleted them after reading the first. It took all my willpower just to get through it. I wanted to be sure to read it all to give it a fair chance. I kept waiting for it to get interesting…or something.:hypno::ouch::confused:

I am about the only female I know who hasn’t read them.

I refuse. What a waste of time. I have much better things to do.

(That’s not to say the movies aren’t…eh, okay… My friend works at the movies so we go for free, I would never pay for them. Honestly we had a better time talking about the good themes of the movies/books, as in abstinence and opposing abortion, than we did watching the movie.)

You people all have the patience of saints. I couldn’t make it past page 2. Thankfully that result was anticipated, I just downloaded the PDF, no real effort was expended.

I didn’t make it past page 50. The prose made me go :hypno:
Exactly! I honestly can’t believe so many people are reading these hundreds of pages…for what?!

lol. Indeed. And I had some GOOD books in a pile waiting to be read:rolleyes:…I have no idea why I continued with it. I guess I was convinced by the hype that it was some magical story and I was too dense to ‘get it’. I still don’t get it.🤷
Does this mean your Team Jacob?
I still don’t know what this means…
