I did not know where to put this, but its for all faiths, so I put it here. Many people do not agree with the Popes teaching. But did the Man not call a spade a spade.

5 or 6 years ago he said that the financial crisis slipping into the world today is because many build their house on Sand not Rock.

He said man has build their house on sand, Thats why the banks are collapsing, they did not build their life on Rock the word of God.

And did he not call it. How many people are so sick, and upset for what they have lost in money, homes, etc. But how many are trusting in God instead of money???

How many people trust the word of God more then the money in the bank. The Pope saw it comming, and he did warn us, did he not? But we refused to listen.

How many of us still refuse to listen to what he is telling us, THE WORD OF GOD.

How many of us have learned our lesson now, and are going to re-build that house on ROCK this time, instead of SAND?

I know I learned my lesson, and my house is ROCK SOLID NOW! How many times must we sit back and watch our houses wash away before we learn to trust in GOD COMPLETELY!!

I now can say I have no anxiety anymore, I gave up my 401k statements, I don’t even look at em. Could care less. Sure I still put away, and I have faith in God when the time Comes I will have enough. Lets just say I just got me a new BANKER!!

I disagree with the OP idea that everyone who was hit by this downturn was building his house on sand. Many who were responsible people who didn’t take on too much debt, didn’t take mortgages that they couldn’t repay, and didn’t trust in the banks more than God, still lost their jobs and were affected by the situation.

Ignoring your retirement plan is not the same as trusting in God. You can be responsible about your future while trusting in God - it’s not an either or situation. Shredding your 401K statement without reading it is putting at risk your ability to take care of youself in the future. Making yourself a virtual ward of the state in old age is no tribute to God - not when you have a choice and choose not to take responsibility. Know what’s going on or you risk being swept under in the next big downturn - and be sure there is one coming, sooner or later.

We’re lucky here that the economy hasn’t taken our jobs or our ability to retire. We’re affected, just like every other American, just not as badly as some.

I’m not sure what the OP means by trusting in God. It seems that he means that to trust in God is to ignore your finances.

What I was saying if you read it, is I do not take that statement and tremble everytime it comes. I could care less of the ups and downs. I know we must work, and save but I trust God in the end to take care of me and my money.

If in the end of the next 15 years it is Gods will for me and my husband to be able to quit working it will happen. If not he will give us the strength and health to carry on. But either way he will take care of me. Thats my house of Rock. Him not my money.

The stock market is a gamble no matter how good you think you are. But if you trust in God and put it away and you are saving honest money, it will be okay. Because the money is not what I need to survive its Faith in God. If my money leaves tommorow my faith in God will carry me through.

But many people put all if their faith in that money, and not in God. Those are the people who build their house on sand. If the money goes so do they, You see it everyday the stock market crashing and people jumping off the Bridge. Instead of knowing they did they best they could and trusting in God to find them another route they let that house of sand just wash away. ANd them with it.

And she does not have the gift of the HS to do so. GOd left the Pope the keys not her. That makes him the Holy Father. He got the keyes to prove it.

And what if before 15 years you become disabled, can’t work, and have paid no attention to your money, so you’re also broke. How is that trusting in God? You believe that if you ignore your finances, God will take care of you in the end? That you won’t become disabled? That if there is a downturn in the economy and your finances are a mess, that you won’t also become disabled and unable to work?

Gotta say that this sounds kind of like a reverse of the stuff we hear on TV - send us money and you’ll be rich. Your is, Pay no attention to your finances and God will take care of you.

Nope, you are mistaken about your own Catholic Beliefs. According to the RCC, they are the authority to forgive sins and also to excommunicate. Also, through apostolic succession, every pope has that authority and he passes the authority to forgive down to the priests.

There are people who live within their means and still end up ruined. The idea is to not put all your eggs in one basket. Look at the families in Detroit who had most of their family working for the car companies! Who do you turn to in that situation?

Kalt did you miss this part buddy or what. I just said I still put away, but I don’t have any anxiety of what will happen, Its out of my control. Where does putting away in an 401k, and not getting upset everytime the market goes up and down make me someone who is not doing my part. This is a good point, OP. Too many people center their lives around money or their profession. Too many Chief Executives build their company around cutting every corner for a quick buck. It’s when you lose your ethics, your business morals, that surely bad things come. If the people would just listen to the wise men… Muhammad even had an economic system under Shari’a law that made asking for interest a punishable offense.

We need to refocus ourselves and our economy. Refocus from unethical practices to make the quick buck.
