Openly gay youths will be allowed to join scouting, delegates to the annual meeting of the Boy Scouts of America voted Thursday.
More than 60% of the group’s 1,400-member national council voted in Grapevine, Texas, for the historic policy change, which will take effect January 1.
“No youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone,” says the approved resolution.
The BSA will maintain its ban on gay adult leaders.
I’m glad they made the right decision. 👍

To anyone on this board who was a Boy Scout in this past, or is a Scout now…

I ask you to remember and honor the oath you took…

**On my honor, I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.**

No pun intended…

Agreed.

Having said that, we should certainly not discriminate against those with same sex attraction. Unfortunately, this move by the BSA will probably include nothing which allows for the proclamation of the truth in relation to homosexual behavior versus same sex attraction. In fact, it will probably mandate the exact opposite and allow nothing of the sort to be said.

Therefore, to allow for an environment where the truth can be taught to boys, it would behoove Catholic parishes who have Boy Scout troops to consider making the switch to Fraternus instead: fraternus.net/wp/

Agreed,

May I also suggest the Columbian Squires and AOH Youth Divisions (for those of Irish Ancestry).

Now is the time to become proactive and let actions speak louder than words.

I have a feeling the numbers of the Boy Scouts will take a steep decline in the coming years.

A National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality White Paper

Michelle Cretella, M.D. and David C. Pruden, M.S.

The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) is a professional, scientific organization that offers therapeutic assistance to those who struggle with unwanted homosexuality. As an organization, NARTH disseminates educational information, conducts and collects scientific research, promotes effective therapeutic treatment, and provides referrals to those who seek our assistance.

In keeping with NARTH’s commitment to science and education, NARTH offers the following synopsis of scientific research on homosexuality that may be helpful to the national council of the Boy Scouts of America as it deliberates a change in policy that would allow homosexually-identified youth as members.[1]

****The development of homosexuality is influenced by environment. ****

.

Homosexuality is not an unchangeable biologically determined trait like race. The American Psychological Association reports, “There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles…”[2]
The environment, including family dynamics, peer interactions and other social factors, can contribute significantly to the formation of one’s sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is not fixed at birth but rather is environmentally influenced and unfolds slowly across childhood, adolescence and even into adulthood for some individuals.[3]

Simply put the BSA put money before God. They were more concerned about money they would lose for not keeping to their beliefs and being politically correct. Todays vote means my kids are no longer scouts and never will be again. Scouts is big in my area and With all the talk going on here they just lost 30 to 40K a year in donations not to mention over 50% of their members at least. We still believe in God and follow him. Not the devil and their love of money.

My opinion–

First off, I’ve always interpreted “morally straight” as “the STRAIGHT and narrow.” Personally, I think a decision much more contrary to the BSA’s values would be atheist/agnostic youth and leaders. No offense to atheists and agnostics, but it is opposed to “… and reverent” and “duty to God.” So is it different? Yeah. Is it the worst thing? No.

Another great alternative is The Blue Knights Program. Boys can learn about the true heroes “The Saints” and grow in virtue and morality

NARTH is not a professionally respected agency by the established mental health community.

They are fringe and no one takes them seriously.

What a shame. I thought better of the boy scouts and that they’d stand strong against this evil. Guess I thought wrong
