Whether or not the US (and that was, it must be remembered, under the tender leadership of Jimmy Carter) assisted in the overthrow of the Shah decades ago does not change what I originally wrote.
We didn’t assist in the overthrow in the Shah, we, and the British, under the Eisenhower administration, over threw Mossadeq, the democratically elected, and widely popular, and very pro Western legal ideals PM, and helped installa General, and former Nazi sympathiser, because he promised to be tough on communism, the Shah, with this new vacume, pushed him aside, and took the reigns of power, and we supported the shah, a popular movement in Iran then overthrew the Shah, and the Clerics managed to mave into authority after that.
Islam, all by itself, is retarding its own progress. Islamic society is responsible for its own backwardness. Any lack of feelings of self worth stem from the social conditions created by such things as the hopelessly backward, medieval sharia law, total disinterest in education except learning the Koran, etc. There are many contributing factors and none of them involve “western oppression”.
The difference between you and me in this debate is that I am willing to back up my claims with actual fact.
We are not oppressing Islam. They are creating the conditions of oppression themselves. That they, in their perceived victimhood, choose to place the blame elsewhere only shows that they refuse to consider their own part in their situation.
If you willing to have a fact based discussion let me know, if you want to have a three day argument of me presenting fact after historical fact and you brushing it aside and repeating the same line over and over again I’m not interested.

The difference between you and me in this debate is that I am willing to back up my claims with actual fact.
There have been no facts presented, only opinion, either yours or that of someone who wrote a book which you reference. I’ve been in the “fact” business for over 40 years. I know what they are. Opinions, no matter how firmly, or even rudely, stated, are not facts.
If you willing to have a fact based discussion let me know, if you want to have a three day argument of me presenting fact after historical fact and you brushing it aside and repeating the same line over and over again I’m not interested.
You’ve been presented with facts, you brush them aside. How ironic that you make such an accusation, perhaps because the tactic is so familiar to you? Those facts that I have presented are well documented and well known. You are welcome to confirm them if you like. Something that basic should not require that someone else do your homework for you. A person would have to be, as they say, “living under a rock” not to be familiar with the backwardness of much of the Islamic world, of which Iran is hardly representative.

The conclusions drawn from those facts may not be happy ones, and may not be ones that some people like to see, especially if those conclusions don’t fit their world view, but that doesn’t change the facts.

In a previous post, you cited a sense of humiliation and oppression within Islam. I described to you what any good psychologist would do in evaluating the factors that serve to contribute to a sense of genuine self worth, thus extinguishing any perceived sense of humiliation. I also noted that the West is not oppressing Islam, only their own governments are.

It would appear that some people are just happier blaming the West for all the problems in the Islamic world. That sort of thinking shows only bias based on ignorance and a certain sense of self-hatred, characteristics that are typical of the Left, but utterly lacking in factual foundation. There are no facts to support the idea that the West is oppressing Islam. Dredging up opinions that are decades-old and trying to construct some sort timeline of events to fit a pre-determined conclusion doesn’t change that.

I do appreciate your efforts to spell correctly! 👍 As a one time-editor myself, I find, just as many university professors do, that it is very difficult to take the writing of anyone seriously when that person cannot spell. At many universities professors will discard a paper and give it a zero grade at the first mis-spelled word. I’m glad you’re making an effort to spell as it may assist you in the dialogs you have both here at CAF & elsewhere. It’s good to see!!

They certianly have, as have all religions.

Some Jews have, I’m willing to bet some Jews are real jerks, however all Jews I have ever met have been kind, loveing, hospitable people, as have all Muslims. Simply because there are some dangerous fanatics in the Muslim world dosen’t excuse demonizing all Muslims.

Have you ever read the Koran, from front to back, cover to cover?

I wasen’t actually saying Jews were greedy, I was being sarcastic. I’m sure some Jews are greedy, as are some Christians, and as are some Muslims, the point is not to judge an entire religious population based on the actions on some individuals.

Right, of course you know that untill the last half centuy or so Americans were actually quite popular in the Middle East.
I would never ever read the Quran. I know it is for killing in the name of Allah and it is a terrible, false book for the Muslim people. How can so many people be duped into thinking this is right???🤷 I have had read other books telling me what is IN the Quran, if I picked one up, I’d probably feel much anxiety.
Mohummad didn’t die for our sins,
Buddha didn’t die for our sins,
Jesus Christ died for our sins, and the sooner you know this, the better off you will be, and the rest of the world.

Furthermore, yes, I have encountered some holier than thou Jews that are real jerks, as well as Muslim who are real jerks and everyone else. The whole world is greedy.

how can you think of a shia nation as the closest representative of the mainstream? 🤷
I think there is a strong case to be made that the goverment conceived, before the Clerics grabbed ultimate power, is well in line with a government founded upon Islamic principles. As we know the Koran gives no specific directions on what an Islamic state must look like, so it is all speculation.

There have been no facts presented, only opinion, either yours or that of someone who wrote a book which you reference.
Yes there have been, I have cited specific instances, directed you to a book, and even given you the name of the operation, which you are free to look up, the NY Times has a nice report on it.
I’ve been in the “fact” business for over 40 years. I know what they are. Opinions, no matter how firmly, or even rudely, stated, are not facts.
Why don’t you tell me what is my oppinion? The well documented historical fact of the CIA’s involvement in the overthrow of the Iranian PM, or the scientific poll Gallop conducted into populations of the Muslims world investigating the 7% that described the 9/11 attacks as justafied?
You’ve been presented with facts, you brush them aside. How ironic that you make such an accusation, perhaps because the tactic is so familiar to you? Those facts that I have presented are well documented and well known.
You haven’t cited anything specific, so far as I have seen you have simply repeatedly asserted that Islam is to blam and the West has nothing to do with it, if you have presented any facts I am unaware of please direct me to them and I’ll look at them.
You are welcome to confirm them if you like. Something that basic should not require that someone else do your homework for you. A person would have to be, as they say, “living under a rock” not to be familiar with the backwardness of much of the Islamic world, of which Iran is hardly representative.
I have never denied that much of the Muslim world is developing, nor have I denied that Islam has, at times, retarted progress.

What specific facts would you like me to check out?
The conclusions drawn from those facts may not be happy ones, and may not be ones that some people like to see, especially if those conclusions don’t fit their world view, but that doesn’t change the facts.
What is my world view?
In a previous post, you cited a sense of humiliation and oppression within Islam.
I cited Gallup’s findings
described to you what any good psychologist would do in evaluating the factors that serve to contribute to a sense of genuine self worth, thus extinguishing any perceived sense of humiliation. I also noted that the West is not oppressing Islam, only their own governments are.
I agrea the West is not opressing Islam, if, however, you wish to maintain there there is not a long history of Western opression of the Muslims world, and that Western governments have not funded, and supported totalitarian regimes in the Muslim world that have opressed their people then you are simply ignoring reality.

If you would like specific instances of totalitarian government we supported I would be happy to provided specific instances.

I
t would appear that some people are just happier blaming the West for all the problems in the Islamic world.
I have never once done such a thing, the Muslim world has done plenty to handycap itself.
That sort of thinking shows only bias based on ignorance and a certain sense of self-hatred, characteristics that are typical of the Left, but utterly lacking in factual foundation.
Are you a psychologist?
There are no facts to support the idea that the West is oppressing Islam. Dredging up opinions that are decades-old and trying to construct some sort timeline of events to fit a pre-determined conclusion doesn’t change that.
Are you deneying that the Islamic Revolution in Iran was greatly motivated by the opression of the Shah?
I do appreciate your efforts to spell correctly! 👍 As a one time-editor myself, I find, just as many university professors do, that it is very difficult to take the writing of anyone seriously when that person cannot spell.
Sure, and some idiots disreguard Bush off hand because he can’t string two sentences together. Both are rather foolish judgements. I have horrid spelling and have never denied that all I ask is to judge what I write based on the factual content and analysis, I ignored your confusion over Carter and the Iranian government because silly petty distractions serve only for impotent ad hominems that get nobody anywhere

There was no petty sarcasm, it was a genuine compliment. Perhaps you are the sarcastic one? I don’t know. But do not presume to impose your attitudes on me, they are yours, not mine.

However, since you have returned to your old ways anyway, I’ll withdraw it. Sorry for complimenting you, I wouldn’t dream of doing it again.

As for the rest ~ as to your beginning point ~ so far as I am concerned, the only possible use of the New York Times is for lining bird cages. I am personally familiar with their practices and I do not believe anything they report and have not done so for a very long time. I’m in good company as their readership is dropping precipitously.

Beyond that, I’ll wait for your final draft.

I agrea the West is not opressing Islam, if, however, you wish to maintain there there is not a long history of Western opression of the Muslims world,
the muslim world also had a long history of oppressing the christian world. So for me what happened in the past cancels each other out.
and that Western governments have not funded, and supported totalitarian regimes in the Muslim world that have opressed their people then you are simply ignoring reality.
the west funded and supported the philippine despot Marcos, but we filipinos blame ourselves for it. not the west.

So you feel the need to warn your children of the dangers of Islam without haveing ever actual read the text which inspires the religion you wish to warn them aghinst?

What books have you read about the Koran?
Should one read Hubbard’s book of Dianetics before one can warn his children about Scientology?

Religion is NOT what you can read in a book, but what the devout followers actually do. it would be interesting if we can contrast & compare the positive and negative accomplishments of the devout in every major religion.

“*You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies *and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:43-48).

Thank you Jesus, your words can’t come from a normal human-being, you are more than that…
We teach our children about love Sam even love towards the Muslim people. I hope you take the time to read some of the testimonies why these people leaving Islam answering-islam.org/Testimonies/index.html - this is not about hatre it is about the truth from former muslim themselves. No one put words in their mouth. Jesus Christ died for our sin even for the Muslim people.

I would not suggust as I clearly do not deserve it for responding so caustically to a compliment.

I know Amy is a convert to Islam, I am pretty sure Amy can answer herself? The question was " Is this how she was taught the Muslim faith?

I hope you take the time to read some of the testimonies why these people leaving Islam answering-islam.org/Testimonies/index.html - this is not about hatre it is about the truth from former muslim themselves. No one put words in their mouth. Jesus Christ died for our sin even for the Muslim people.

If it is true I am sorry to say that you are going backward.

Who is a devout Muslim?

Don’t confuse hating the sin with hating the sinner. They’re not the same.

Having said that, those Muslims that believe that Islam is being maligned by those outside the faith have a remedy ~ remove those who preach hate and violence from positions of authority, stop the killing, etc. Muslims themselves are in the best position to rid the world of the scourge of Islamic radicalism. If you want to feel the love, eliminate the the basis for fear and hatred.
We all need to hate the sins not the sinners I agree because they do not know what they are doing.

Who is God’s True Seal of Prophethood? Answer is Jesus Christ - go to the link below

answering-islam.org/Shamoun/true_seal.htm - the truth will set you free because truth is one.

I don’t know what suggust means.

I didn’t read all the posts, but this made me think of something funny.

When my little sister, Emily, was around age 2, my 2 other sisters and I were being homeschooled and studying ancient Egypt. Well, my sister Lauren took it into her head to teach Emily a whole slew of things it went like this:

What is your name?
Hatshepsut
How many brothers do you have?
Two
How many sisters do you have?
Three
What is your mama’s name?
Ann
What is your daddy’s name?
John
When is your birthday?
February 13, 2002

And the questioning went on for at least 3 minutes. But the amazing thing to the rest of us was how she convinced my little sister that her name was Hatshepsut even though she had been called Emily since she was born. When strangers asked her her name, she would say Hatshepsut! This tells you how easy it is to convince a child of that age of anything.

Well, if you are convincing a child of that age that the Jews and Christians are evil, well, that is ingrained in that child’s head. What is even worse, is that this little girl’s parents thought to teach her that stuff. I mean it isn’t just a little girl saying that the Jews and Christians are bad, it is a little girl repeating her parents words that the Jews and Christians are bad.

In answer to the question about what Catholic parents teach their children about Muslims. Well, until 9-11, none of the kids in my family had even heard of a Muslim, but now then my parents told us that the Muslims were good people, but that there were people who split and started their own version of Islam (much the way the SSPX split from the Church (we know allot about the SSPX because my mom’s family is in it:( )) but that the new Muslim group was violent and thought that every non-Muslim should convert or die. My parents told us to pray for them, and they also told us that they sure hope we don’t have to die as martyrs, because the Muslims were moving West, and converting many.

I don’t think this is Muslim hatred, just simple truth.
