There is plenty of time to develop a presidential candidate. In the meantime, it is more important to Democrats to rebuild support for their party than to leave a vacuum hoping someone will fill it.(1) it steals the spotlight away from potential 2020 Presidential candidates. Obama can’t be the leader of the Democratic Party.
That free pass was already given out when they passed the first amendment.(2) Addtionally, Obama speaking out gives Trump a “free pass” to speak out in the future.
Why not? He is a public citizen without any special legal standing. If the average citizen can speak out, so can he.But no President should publicly take a position against a current President, especially 10 days in.
