(1) it steals the spotlight away from potential 2020 Presidential candidates. Obama can’t be the leader of the Democratic Party.
There is plenty of time to develop a presidential candidate. In the meantime, it is more important to Democrats to rebuild support for their party than to leave a vacuum hoping someone will fill it.
(2) Addtionally, Obama speaking out gives Trump a “free pass” to speak out in the future.
That free pass was already given out when they passed the first amendment.
But no President should publicly take a position against a current President, especially 10 days in.
Why not? He is a public citizen without any special legal standing. If the average citizen can speak out, so can he.

So all the protest now is support building by the Democrats. Then I can understand that and why Obama has to break the normal convention to speak out after his retirement (as President). It makes sense then for all the seemingly childish unrestrained disrespect for the Presidency. Whether it will do them any good is of course another matter because it can only for the Trump voters to stamp their feet in further.

They (Democrats) have to rebuild. Obama has done irreparable damage in his years too long as a President. The direction by him to turn the country into religionless institution is really bad for Christians especially Catholics.

Fine. But George H W. Bush didn’t speak out against Clinton and both Bushes didn’t speak out about Obama. I also don’t recall Clinton speaking out against GWB. The only thing I remember Clinton doing during GWB’s term was hanging out with GHWB.
They had the luxury of being succeeded by honorable men.
Sadly, Obama had no such luck.

Trump is a results oriented individual. He like to get things done.If he comes off as self important at least he has some reason to feel that way.
What the heck has Obama ever accomplished?Crickets…
Trump. Accomplished?
What a joke. Malignant Narcissist is the clinical diagnosis.

I’m just fine with him speaking out. For many Americans, he’s been a father figure and it’s comforting to hear from him in such a volatile time.
Are you sure “father figure” is a sufficient descriptor? Seems kind of lame to me. I mean everybody has a father, but Obama was so much more. Do you think deity is too much?

When you have the likes of Charles Schumer saying the only way they will work with Trump is if he capitulates to their agenda, what can you expect? Add to that the hysteria and meltdowns by the left just because HC lost, what do you expect?
That is a misrepresentation of what he said. Please stop wit the alt-facts.

I was speaking only of a reason why Obama need not keep silent. Speaking out also requires an issue on which to speak. Trump provides that in spades.
Then I can understand that and why Obama has to break the normal convention to speak out after his retirement (as President).
Trump is not a normal President. Normal convention does not apply.
It makes sense then for all the seemingly childish unrestrained disrespect for the Presidency.
Of course I disagree with the contention that all the protests are childish. And I must point out that these protests show no disrespect for the office (as distinct from the policies of the person occupying that office).
They (Democrats) have to rebuild.
And Trump is helping them now.
Obama has done irreparable damage in his years too long as a President.
A matter of opinion on which I disagree.

Secularism has been a growing threat to Christianity long before Obama came around. The church’s close relationship with empire has had a much greater impact on the increase of secularism.

How is it you and a select few on the forum continue to make these nasty comments with impunity?
While there were snarky comments made about Obama, from those opposed to him, none rise to the level of nastiness I have witnessed here re Trump.Sameful!

I’m not exactly sure how this relates to my post. My point is it’s blind partisanship to come on here and make comments about Obama being a divider while giving Trump a pass on this same point.

American Christianity has become infected with the sludge that is American Politics it has lost Christ. The worst part is most people can’t see it.

I’ll give everyone a hint, if you’re using terms like all liberals do this or all conservatives do this then you need to have a sit down and rethink things.

A matter of perception of course. What is normal and what is not? He is the President and that is a fact.

Remember, one day a Democrat will be elected President, and the same can be said by his opponents to justify whatever would be their action against him/her. This game can be played two ways.

During the inauguration, they protested and destroyed properties just a few hundred yards away for Capitol Hill where the President-elect was taking the oath of the Presidency. Call that maturity but if I am the owner of those properties that have been damaged by them, I would not be too pleased. And why did they do that?
A matter of opinion on which I disagree.
Granted you have your opinion as I have mine.

I think Obama’s was a failed Presidency. I think he is a good speaker and orator. He would be an asset if he is a Christian preacher, though his religious affiliation is pretty much in doubt. Some say he is a closet Muslim by the action he did though the perception was not proven.

As a result of his Presidency, the US is left with more than three hundred trillion debt and the rise of ISIS in a matter of months.

In term of religious value, I am terribly saddened when abortion is encouraged and paid by the state.

Look back through old posts. It’s the same garbage on each side. You really can’t think of anything negative said about Obama on this forum that rises to that level?😉

And I fully expect it to. Especially if the Democrat is as unusual as Trump.

Those you refer to were a tiny minority of all those that are protesting. I can call those few irresponsible and disrespectful and still see the vast majority of those protesting as not representative of those few.

It is a matter of opinion whether or not those same or similar conditions might have been in effect had McCain and/or Romney won those elections.

As am I.

OK but just for this one. He left a dangerous vacuum in Iraq that allows for the rise of ISIS. That was a choice, a decision on his part.

I have read posts in the past few days, calling Malania Trump crude names, referring to our President as trash,I could go n but you get the gist.To answer your question,no,I don’t recall anything close to this kind of talk in reference to Obama or Michelle. If it has happened, those individuals would have been banned.ThT was then, this is now,I guess.
