Brides, would you trash your wedding gown?

Umm…mine was high necked and ruffly and I really liked it. (I was married in '91) Bought it off the rack at a bridal shop -I think it was $125. I was 18 and we were paying for the wedding ourselves. Our daughters baptism dress is nothing but ruffles from the (empire) waist down and it is very long. MIL did a beautiful job.

I saw a story on the local 10:00 p.m. news about a new trend. Supposedly, some brides are now jumping into bodies of water, getting their gowns muddy, or ruining them in some other fashion while being photographed doing so. What on earth are they thinking?

I would cut it up to make a baptism gown or a confirmation dress. Or for that matter just cut it up. Some people save them thinking their child will wear it, and they almost never do. Some save them and never see them again before they die it sits in a box and thats that. No, I would toss it if I did not have a child to make a confirmation dress for in the family.
But, photos, nope. Too many photos to little space for them.

I’m still puzzled. What’s so artistic about trashing a dress? Who started this ‘trend?’

It was in a Target commerical a few years back. The bride and groom jumped into a pool.

I saw something else interesting, but a person would have to be willing to do some real work: A quilted bedspread using the dress, the groom’s tie and cumberbund, and other fabircs from the wedding. It looks pretty, but I think a person would have to go in for a really formal bedroom, not to mention cats, dogs, kids and everyday life- I would have to have a durafab duvet for it, or put it under plastic like ladies in the 60s and 70s did with their furniture.

I did give the base of my First Communion veil to the woman whom I hired to make my wedding veil. The wedding dress, itself, I lost in the goings-and-comings of folks helping me in a recent move… I’m not mourning that, though. I figure that it probably wound up somewhere that someone who might want it would use it or sell it. Considering everything else in life, the only thing this has to do with Eternity is my willingness to let it go.

Long time ago my mother had her wedding dress cut and made into a baptismal gown. I think my grandmother made the dress and then the gown, but I am not sure. My sister and I were baptized in it. My sister’s sons and my son have been baptized in it too.
