That would not be necessary. He is able to read the posts here and see all of our wishes for his recovery. 😃

:signofcross:

Praying for your Bro JR. As you can see, many of us have noticed your absence. And you are missed…

I have always had the most respect for his wise posts. I pray fervently to our blessed Mother for his recovery, or a good death, whichever the Lord has in mind for him. (Prefer recovery for purely selfish reasons.) You are in our thoughts and prayers.

He’s a Franciscan priest. 🙂

Please do me the favor of voting this thread 5 stars, everybody. Thanks!
Not a priest. Just a brother and superior. Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate.

In fact, most friars are not priests.

I do hope he’s well.

Not FFI… FFV… Fratres Franciscani Vitae… Franciscan Brothers of Life. 🙂

I’m pretty sure that even if Bro. JR was ordained, he would still like to be called brother. 🙂

Please pray for Bro. JR. He’s in the hospital with double pneumonia.
Praying. Have missed him on CAF.

God be with you always, dear Br. JR.

Brother is not a priest but he is rightly addressed as Father because he is the Superior General of a religious community. It is his right to be addressed as Father because of his position as Superior General even though he is not a priest. He has never insisted that people call him Father but has always referred to himself here on CAF as a humble brother.

Brother has a doctorate in sacred theology (S.T.D) from Holy Cross University (run by Opus Dei) in Rome. S.T.D. is the highest degree in the pontifical university system.

His comments on Franciscans for Life being made an independent community are at forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=662282. Of being selected by his brothers in the community to be Superior General he wrote:

***I told the Lord, “You put me into this situation. I have no idea what I’m doing. You could have chosen someone healthier and more intelligent. What were you thinking? Well Lord, it doesn’t matter now. You’ve done it. Now you have to walk with me through the night and be my light.” ***

The Franciscans for Life website is at franciscansoflife.org/.

There are pictures of Brother Jay on his blog at brothersoflife.wordpress.com/category/superiors-desk/.

Another prayer for him…

Prayer

“Do grant, oh my God,
that when my lips approach Yours to kiss You,
I may taste the gall that was given to You;
when my shoulders lean against Yours,
make me feel Your scourging;
when my flesh is united with Yours, in the Holy Eucharist,
make me feel Your passion;
when my head comes near Yours,
make me feel Your thorns;
when my heart is close to Yours,
make me feel Your spear.”

-St. Gemma Galgani

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God… that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: O God, whose only-begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech you, that meditating on the Mysteries of the most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord.

Amen

I am sure many of us would appreciate any news of the good Brother’s recovery from anyone with such knowledge. He is such an example of goodness and wisdom that he is very dear to a lot of us.

Hope all is well and Brother Jay is either taking a little break from CAF or keeping busy with other duties and projects. But we can’t help getting concerned when we haven’t heard from him in a while. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brother Jay.

O God, who, through the merits of blessed Francis,
didst give increase to Thy Church,
by enriching her with new offspring:
grant us, that following his example
we may despise earthly goods
and ever rejoice in partaking of Thy heavenly gifts.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son,
Who lives and reigns with You and Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
