Praying for you, the children and your brothers with hopes that your visit was a happy one.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

My dearest friends and brothers and sisters ----

I just returned to Florida. I had a beautiful spiritual experience on retreat. I also got to visit my hometown and then go up to see my daughter and her husband who live about an hour away. I also had time to visit with my brother, nephews and nieces. They’re all adults. I got to meet two brand new members of our family, a grandnephew who is 5 weeks old and a grandniece who is 10 months old.

The most exciting part of my trip was visiting my alma mater, Catholic University of America. My formation began. It was great to see the place after more than 35 years. I even got to see one of my former professors. He is about 7 years older than me. He and I were very young when I was his student.

PHOTOS EDITED BY MODERATOR

I know that I will never see my beloved alma mater again. But I thank God for the education I received, for preparing me to go on for further studies in theology and science, and for the great opportunity to visit before I die and to walk my son and daughter through it. They had never seen where their dad began his university career.

I’m glad that I can share it with you.

Now one more thing.

On August 25, 2014, I’m presiding over the Rite of Admission for the following
  1. Three new postulants
  2. One new novice who will receive the holy habit
  3. One novice who will no longer be a novice, because he will be making vows
Please pray for these brothers and pray for me that I may guide them well, especially by example. I’ll see if I can get someone to take a few pics. I’m not making promises. 🙂

Thank You

Brother! It makes me so happy when you post in here!
I loved your photos, and what I like best is you are smiling.
I will pray for you and your intentions and may Holy Mary keep you under her mantle.
God bless you, Brother!

Dear Brother JR, it is lovely to hear from you again. Alas the Moderator did the Mod thing with your pictures but your post and graciew’s comments are enough for me to know they were joyful pictures. I am so glad you had a lovely time making memories and it seems that God has some lovely plans for you. You remain in my daily prayers.

May God bless and strengthen you.

Dear Brother JR,

Thanks for your post. Yes, Catholic University of America has certainly grown but stayed the same as well. I can tell from your post that your visit home was a happy one! How lucky you are to have not one but two new additions to your family.

Praying today for the three new postulants, the new novice and brother receiving the habit!
Congratulations to all. And of course always for you. How lucky they are to receive your guidance! This is a great day.

May God bless you and all those in your care brother. Thank you so much for the lovely pictures. They arrived in my email drop box (Avila123-if you get email updates on threads from CAF, you may have their links in the email).
What a beautiful campus and breathtaking chapel. The images brought me peace and joy.
Thank you for praying for us. It matters so much.
May your postulants and novices and brothers and yourself continue to grow in faith and love and may God bless alll children and bring them safely home to Him.
Amen.

Well, the deed is done. We have one newly professed brother, a new novice and three new postulants. The whole ritual is done in Latin, but we use the Franciscan Book of Rites from 1970. The readings are in English and the interrogation is in English, Spanish and Creole.

We process into the Church to this hymn, with the lights out, carrying candles, the cross, incense and holy water. The lights go on when the superior says to the brothers, “Cast aside the deeds of darkness and clothe yourselves with the glory of the crucified Lord as did our holy Father St. Francis.”

Then the brothers respond by turning on the lights and sing Laudato Mi Signore. Because we’re a traditional community, we are not allowed to use Gregorian music within the liturgy. St. Francis banned it. We sing Francis’ canticle with a non-Gregorian melody as he wrote it. The original is not in Gregorian chant. It’s very beautiful to see the lilghts go on and the brothers break into song “Praise be You My Lord”

I’m including some pics. I’m hoping that these pictures are uploaded correctly. The last time, I did it wrong.

Listening to the reading of the Last Will and Testament of St. Francis. The deacon (vicar) and the superior general, preside.

The Rule commands the superior to interrogate the faith of each postulant one by one.

Everyone prostrates during the Litany of the Saints, except the superior and the presider

Pulling the habit over a the new novice’s head. There was a problem. Brother is a little chunky and I couldn’t reach around him to pull the bottom of the habit. In the end, I had to ask him to finish the job. 🙂

This novice just made his vows. I have to take off his novice habit and clothe him in the habit of the professed. He’s slender. I was able to do it more quickly.

Oh! The music is glorious! And the pictures were great. What a blessing to get a peek at these events. God bless everyone there! Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us.
Peace,
Clare

Brother Jay, it is so good to see a post from you! God bless you and your community. You are in my prayers always.

Thank you , Brother . Your pics and narration awsome as usual.
I’m glad everything was solved with the habit issues and nobody got wrapped up:)
As far as the Littany and them lying on the floor ,I remember when my nephew was ordained and how much this impressed me.
All great news , Brother ! Thanks so much for sharing with us !

Thank you for the narrative and photos! God bless you and your brothers this day!
