This caught my attention. He has 6 kids and he gets bored at home??? What’s that about??
If one was attempting to interpret this charitably: he might be more of an outdoors person rather than an indoors person. I could stay inside all day, but a lot of people get antsy if they’re trapped within four walls! 🙂

So take the kids outside!!!

My dad was like that when he was younger. He needed to be doing something all of the time, that’s all. I’ve never heard anyone say he was lazy, including my mom. For instance, when we went to the beach he got up and walked for about two hours before we even got up. Sitting around a beach house drove him nuts. He was used to getting up early and being busy, so sitting around doing nothing was not relaxing for him. 🤷

I’m sorry, but with 6 kids and a wife who is overwhelmed and somewhat physically disabled, there should be plenty for him to do. The OP’s husband is not walking for 2 hours on the beach, he’s going out drinking when he’s “bored.”

Well I guess since today is Saturday and he is out racing, and I am home by myself with kids and I don’t feel like loading everyone up to go to a graduation we were invited too, the issue is the racing! Maybe we will go to a park instead! However, tomorrow my son and I are going to a Tigers game, and he will be home with the rest so I will get a break.

If it factors in any, I also don’t care for the people he races with. I don’t really know them all personally (except his brother) but they all drink too much. His brother was almost killed in an accident while drinking. So sometimes I wonder if I have issues with the racing itself as much as the people he does it with??🤷

I do try to get out to. We are members at the local Y, and I do use that a lot, but my 4 year old boy is a HANDFUL to say the least so I feel guilty leaving them for very long. My husband says I can do whatever I want whenever, but it is simply not that easy. He can do that, but I can’t assume he will be available to watch kids so I have to find and pay a babysitter (who always manages to let my house get completely trashed while I am away). And again I know they can be hard to manage so I feel guilty for leaving them with anyone other than my husband.
As a fellow Mom of 6, I do feel your pain and stress! ((((HUGS))))

I haven’t read to the end yet, but wanted to jump in while I could and offer you that hug, a big round of applause (You are doing fantastic - and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!) and a couple thoughts based on my experience (your mileage may vary).

Around about child 3, I noticed something - dh and I would get together with a few other couples at a cookout or something and it never failed … when one of us moms needed to step out, go to the restroom, pick something up from the store, etc., we’d go find the dad and specifically ask him to watch our children while we were busy. When the dads would step outside to the grill, make the store run, etc - they’d just leave.

That ended up being my wake-up call. Don’t get me wrong - I have a wonderful husband and he’s a fabulous, loving, caring dad. But it’s just not in his upbringing/nature to automatically assume responsibility for the moment-to-moment parenting with the kids. (Ex. He makes sure to know who the kids teachers are and what their report cards are like. He’ll help any of them with an assignment if asked. But it would never occur to him to check their backpacks for “forgotten” notes/homework/permission slips.)

Based on what I’ve read, he’s also like your husband in not being a “talk” kind of guy and when I’d try to explain I needed more attention, appreciation, approval, and assistance, he’d get all defensive.

After years of stress over this, I came to have peace with it to a degree by learning sometimes I need to simply leave the house and go do what I need to do. I try to play by his rules - giving as much notice as possible, writing my “commitment” on the calendar, carrying my cell phone for emergencies. But when the day/time comes for my hike, my movie with a friend, or whatever my personal time will be - I leave. I don’t check to make sure he’s got a sitter. I don’t call to remind him to do x,y, and z. And if he calls me about where something is or what should they have for lunch, I just express that I’m sure it’s there somewhere and he’ll figure it out.

You NEED time away from the kids because, ironically, they will never be this old again. And you don’t want to spend those precious days and hours suffering from burn-out, just making it through. You (and they) deserve to enjoy this crazy, crazy time 🙂

I say let your hubby have his auto hobby - but if he gets that weekend, then you get the next weekend, or three evenings or whatever to go do whatever you want to do. And from someone who’s been there - you may not even know what that is (apart from a long nap) - but pick somewhere anyway - and go. Don’t worry about not having showered (major luxury with kids around). Don’t worry about how you look. Embrace the fact that as a mom of 6, most other women will simply be impressed you’re out there taking the bible study class, square dance lesson, attending a lecture or whatever it is you go do. Don’t worry about whatever someone else thinks - cause they don’t have the guts and skills to do what you do 🙂

Alas, Between the Lions just went off and I have to make sure everyone’s out of their pj’s so we can head to the library (one of my favorite places - ours has a great kids zone). If it’s any comfort, I’m sure at least 2 won’t have their hair combed, I’ll have at least one stain on my shirt I missed seeing, and matching socks will be totally optional. Again (((hugs)))).

You are awesome!

👍👍

If he is truly bored, he can clean the house. Or mow the grass. Or wash the car. Or any number of things.

My husband finds it very hard to sit still. So does my FIL. Maybe it runs in the family.

When my husband gets up on the weekends, he stays quiet, but will clean or tidy up. He will make a wonderful hot breakfast. If he ends up at home alone, I might come back to clean sheets on all of the beds, or dinner in the oven or dogs that have just had a bath.

The OP has 6 children. I am sure there is enough around the house that her husband can find to do around the house.

I am posting this partly to vent and partly to seek perspective. I am a 36 year old mom to 6 young children 11 to 12 months. I have been married for 15 years now. I have been staying at home since my 4th child was born, and my husband does a wonderful job supporting us. I guess I am feeling really burnt out and lonely lately. I have always handled pretty much everything at home. My husband takes out the trash on Sunday. I hate to say this, but I feel he is probably on the lazy/slob side as he always acts like he doesn’t see the mess around him or what needs to be done. Since I stay at home, besides for being slightly bitter at times, I deal with it. However, since my last pregnancy, I have developed hip pain from arthritis I am told, which requires me to limp and makes doing everything while running after a mischievious 4 year old, 2 year old, and 12 month old challenging to say the least.

On top of all this, my husband has this sprint car racing hobby that I just can’t accept. Granted it does not eat up a HUGE amount of time, but it is a lot for a guy with a wife and 6 kids at home. Usually 1-2 entire Saturdays a month during the summer. By myself, I am basically stuck at home as my kids do not behave well enough to go anywhere in public by myself. I also feel that he is risking his well being for some immature hobby since he is the driver. I can’t get past this and find myself being very passive aggressive. I have told him my feelings and he does feel guilty but also won’t stop. Please pray for me. I want to be a good wife.
I personally agree with you it’s irresponsible to do anything that dangerous as a hobby if you have a family that is dependent on you. I’m going skydiving this summer but I don’t have kids and it’s just me so if something happens I don’t leave depends without a means of support or children without a parent.

I am going to include you in my Holy Rosaries tonight Cath; for your Husband to give up the motorsport racing amicably and happily along with substituting for many wonderful family hobbies and experiences now and for Eternity!

My heart goes out to you and your Children; I endured this on many occasions however I travelled with my Children until finally their Father ended up joining on the odd trip to relatives and friends a few times each year.

Love and best wishes to you and your Family

I included you in the Holy Rosary prayed at Midnight Cath; all you need to do now is pray The Holy Rosaries daily twice a day while doing your domestic chores and perhaps you could teach your Children the Hail Mary’s and Our Father’s with them joining in too! Mother Mary will flow Her Divine Love and Wisdom through your Children (watch and observe this) to learn the prayers quickly!

Allow Jesus to work through the situation/matter, relax and hand over all of your Marriage to Jesus and Our Lady Mary Mother of Jesus prior to commencing each Holy Rosary. I pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for world issues, people on CA, all of God’s Children in Africa for His Divine Love Protection Health and Safety over them, providing their necessities; all sorts of Causes and of course Family and Friends and Family and Friends of others. Phew! Its a full time occupation at this time in my Soul journey!

All the Glory and Honour are Yours Dear God our Heavenly Father and Dear Our Lady Mary Mother of Jesus now and for Eternity Amen

You are going to be fine Cath; trust and have full confidence in Jesus and our Holy Mother; they are watching, listening and there with you; just pray as you are doing your things!

Love to Jesus and Our Mother Mary; our Holy Mother carried many many Crosses during Her Life as Jesus’ Mother during the hardest times and our Holy Mother acknowledges everything we go through as Mothers; we only need open up our Hearts for assistance.

Love and best wishes; I am going to pray this week for all Mothers during The Holy Rosaries.

Hail Mary Full of Grace, The Lord is with Thee, Blessed art Thou among Women and Blessed is The Fruit of Thy Womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen

Don’t forget to take iron tablets, eat bananas for energy (two a day if you can Cath), loads of water for minerals, sultanas (energy) and look after yourself.

Six Children… You wouldn’t have time to Scratch yourself… Busy lady…
You need some ME Time… Most men become Slobs to some degree…
Except myself of course… My mom said so,so it must be true… Having Bi-pola would have no influence on her opinion Either… you need a little fun to ease the work&stress …
Drop the Kids off at my place for a week And go have some fun…
You have had enough advice to write an encyclopaedia on the problem you have…
far to much for me to read, there are basic problems you have but not so basic solutions.
and what makes it worse is that one size does not fit all.
When was the last time you both had a break ( A Holiday ) just the two of you ?

Tomorrow is our 15th anniversary, and we have a babysitter all lined up. We will probably do dinner and a movie. I am really looking forward to it.

Congratulations! How wonderful!

(And on an interesting note, today is our anniversary as well … hmmm…we both have 6 kids, both married on the 13th, … are you’re sure you’re not me? LOL! :D)

I hope this is a wonderful day for you. May God bless and keep both you and your children. ((Hugs))

If he gives up this hobby I bet you won’t be attracted to him as much anymore. 😃

 Sure, she married him because he does sprint racing and goes out drinking until the wee hours of the morning…Even if he had this hobby when they met, that was 15 years and 6 kids ago…Time for a new hobby!

Be careful what you wish for. I understand this guy has a responsibility to his kids, obviously, so as long as he meets it (which if he works full time, then he’s doing it), he should do as he please. Women lose attraction to their husbands once they are tamed.

A husband and father’s responsibility to his wife and children doesn’t end when he works full time.

A father’s responsibilities don’t stop at working full-time.

Also, “tamed”? That’s ridiculous and insulting. Men are not animals.

Define “full time”. You do not have the idea that the role of the father of six children under the age of 12 is merely to keep the bank account shored up? Where did the “he should do as he pleases” thing come from? Not from St. Joseph, I’m thinking. A married man has duties as a father and husband for which “you must be present to win.”

Besides, something also tells me that this particular woman is not going to leave her husband for a guy who is too much of a man to stay at home and work around the place and pay attention to his wife and children instead of racing cars and drinking until the wee hours on weekends!
