A press release from the German Bishops was issued on 5th December 2019. As far as I have been able to find, with the exception of Lifesite News, and C.N.A. hardly any “official” Catholic media have reported the momentous information in that press release.

Catholic News Agency issued this report on 12th December 2019.

“The sexual preference of man expresses itself in puberty and assumes a hetero- or homosexual orientation,” Berlin’s Archbishop Heiner Koch asserted in a statement released by the bishops’ conference.

I believe the reporting is fairly poor. All the above says is that orientation is not chosen. And that is why (unjust) forms of discrimination are unacceptable.

I’m not that familiar with Catholic News Agency. Are they as prone to exaggeration and sensationalism as LifeSiteNews is?

No, In fact CNA is affiliated with EWTN, is faithful to the Magisterium and has a very balanced coverage. The German Bishops have gone too far and need to be stopped.

The restrictions on character numbers in this forum makes the posting of either the original press release or an English translation difficult, however the link in your copied extract provides the statement and that can be easily cut and pasted to an on-line translation robot for the English version, should anyone wish to read it in its entirety.

I’m guessing you are implying that because the Pope wrote Amoris Laetitia, which allegedly by some appears to allow adulterers to receive Communion, it would be ironic for him to excommunicate bishops who claim adultery is not a grave sin.
 
From the CNA article: "According to a press release issued by the bishops, there was also discussion on whether the prohibition of homosexual acts by the Church’s magisterium was “still up-to-date”.
 
I think it would be useful to provide the precise references to the bishops’ statement, or the reporting of it, that leads to this reaction.

For example where they say “homosexuality is normal ” I believe they mean no more than the inclinations arise and are not ‘chosen’. In that statement at least, they are not saying homosexual acts should be acceptable. (Note that I would not have chosen the word “Normal”.)

…Not that I will check this out, but I wonder how many bishops and cardinals are on this synod? If four say …I believe the sky is falling and twenty others say that the sky is pink…who wins? Didn’t someone change the rules of synods in the year 2013 + And if bishops in Germany are rich …is that why they can sit back for two years and have their beers while chatting about things needing to be changed in the Church? Just wondering if all bishops in all nations can have two years for a synod. Anyone know?
 
Pope Francis warned the Germans about taking this type of path back in June, then another warning came from the Vatican a couple months ago. Apparently both warnings were ignored.

And this isn’t just a few “off the rails” bishops in Germany. Cardinal Marx is part of this “synod,” and it should be kept in mind that the Germans played an extremely influential role in the Amazon Synod debacle.

It seems that many on here still claim that LifeSite news is a conspiracy site, but more often than not they are reporting the facts in a clear manner.
 
To say “homosexuality is normal” is not a “normal” thing for a Catholic Bishop to say. It is theologically a lie. And there’s no spinning such a lie into truth.

Archbishop Koch: Solid, human Sciences and theology-based discussion is necessary

The commission for marriage and the family of the German Bishops ’ Conference has held a specialist consultation on the subject of “discussing and assessing the sexuality of Man – how scientifically-theologically?”, which ended yesterday evening (4 December 2019) in Berlin. The starting point for the consultation is the Synodal journey of the Church in Germany. Already in the preparatory phase there was a Forum that dealt with questions of sexual morality. With the consultation, the commission wanted to make a contribution to discussing the topic from a sexual Medical, theological-anthropological and moral theological point of view and the status of the church’s Magisterium on questions of sexual morality as well as to shed light on the history and background of Catholic sexual teaching. The meeting in Berlin was organized in conjunction with the Berlin Institute for Christian ethics and politics (ICEP), headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Lob-Hüdepohl. Among others Archbishop Dr. Heiner Koch (Berlin), Bishop Dr. Franz-Josef Bode (Osnabrück), Bishop Wolfgang Ipolt (Görlitz), Bishop Dr. Peter Kohlgraf (Mainz) as well as several auxiliary bishops from the faith and family Commission, who discussed with sexologists, moral theologians, dogmatists and canonists.

The chairman of the family Commission, Archbishop Dr. Heiner Koch, emphasized that the Synodal path should be started unbiased and without fixed positions, but not without knowledge of the state of the sciences. There was consensus on the question that human sexuality encompasses a dimension of pleasure, reproduction and relationship. Likewise, there was agreement that the sexual preference of the human being is expressed in puberty and takes on a heterosexual or homosexual orientation. Both belong to the normal forms of sexual predisposition, which cannot be changed or would have to be changed by any specific socialization. In the reflections of the church, this means that any form of discrimination against homosexuals must be rejected, as has been demanded for some time by the Magisterium and is also explicitly emphasized by Pope Francis in the post-synodal letter Amoris laetitia. However, the question of whether the teaching ban on practised homosexuality is still up-to-date was controversially discussed, as was the question of the permissibility of the use of artificial contraceptives in marriage and in unmarried couples.
