Do you believe the church leaders should be held accountable for covering up the molestation of children?

Great, fantastic, outstanding, it is about time, I want to be there to lock these men up for the rest of their lives. They deserve to be jailed.

Yes, too many catholic are saying just that . Satan had NOTHING to do with this. These men are guilty of crimes in which church leader covered it up. Pray all you want, I want to be the guy that is allowed to lock these men uo in little cells. The time as come for the church leaders to pay for their crimes.

That garbage. I can have a full faith in God without having to be a part of an organization that covered up crimes.

Which is mostly for political reasons, as the previous poster said. Federal investigations for the most part are a feel-good gesture, especially when they happen decades after the fact.
Maybe that is true. I can’t prove that there are no political interests behind these investigations. But if I got swindled decades ago, wouldn’t I want this to be rectified? If you have a boy abused by a priest, wouldn’t you still want justice done?

Youre coming across as someone that is willing to justify crimes. I noticed you didnt answer the question. Why?

Dont you believe those guilty of crimes should be punished? Should an molester be allowed to walk scottfree because they claim they are men of the cloth? Really, should a drug dealer be allowed freedom because eh donated his profits to help the poor? Should a politican be allowed to skim from government because they vote for programs that help the poor. I have a strong moral compass. If lose my trust I will never trust you again. never. The church lost my trust. I have lost nothing by turning my back on it. 100% nothing. IN fact I am a better person because of it.

Sure, I’d want justice done. I’m just wondering how people will feel if the Feds comb through this whole mess for a while and it comes to naught.

The Feds seem to come in when state law is unable to bring charges or prosecute for some reason. Here it would seem to be a combination of statutes of limitations, deaths of perpetrators, and in some cases lack of evidence. In some situations like possible police misconduct that’s race-based, there are federal laws likely to apply.

In this case they’re looking at RICO which was generally designed for mobsters running rackets and prostitution, and not for a church that, whatever it did, did not have a motive to perpetuate bad behavior and certainly didn’t profit from it. I don’t see how this is going to result in meaningful federal charges against the church, especially at this late date.

I didn’t answer the question because I don’t want to engage with people on the forum who seem driven by emotions and anger rather than by the desire to have a rational discussion. Engaging with such people is generally not a productive use of my forum posting time. I’m also not obligated to answer every question thrown out there. Finally, your question was formatted as a response to your own post, not to me, so I wasn’t even sure I was the person you were asking.

I don’t know all the details and the exact reasons why the Fed is opening its own investigations. But the $25 Million sent by the US Cardinals to the Vatican may also have something to do with it. Time will tell.
So satan is the reason for ALL the crimes in the world?
He is part of the reason. Sin is mainly the act of the sinner. But Satan is the tempter.

yes, if thye molested a child, YES, every last single one of them need to pay for their crimes. How is this so hard to understand? How many children are molested because so many stood by and did NOTHING. It is a sickness is just another justification, there are people who are murders and claim they were born that way and they cant control their action. They belong it jail. These men murders these childrens childhood.

I am going to love it when the church across the USA has to finally be shown for the crimes these leaders covered up. You can flag me, but flagging me wont stop justice from finally happening to thees criminal

So these men didnt have to molest those children? Church leader didnt have to cover up the crimes? Stop blaming satan he didnt do it, these men did.

What I can say with 100% of factually knowledge is the church leaders covered up crimes.
Some church leaders might be guilty of covering up crimes. But I will leave it to the state and federal judges to make that judgment. What I heard is that some bishops did not really mean to cover up the crime, but merely wanted to give an abusive priest a chance to reform himself. So, the bishop transfers the abusive priest to another parish or another diocese. But the sad thing is, instead of the abusive priest amending his life, he becomes a serial predator instead. So the poor bishop, in spite of his good intentions, become involved in this mess. However, I believe that there are also some who were guilty of covering up crimes and who are very aggressive at promoting the LGBTQ agenda. But that is just my opinion or my impression. Again, it is the state and federal judges who should make that judgment, not us.

I didnt care who did or does it. If you molest a child you deserve jail time. Even if it were my family members. I will not budge 1 bit one this issue. These men deserve just punishment on this earth for their crimes. To lower these crimes down to the level of a sin is wrong. Again I am so glad I left the church. I have full faith in God none in the church leaders.
