Senator Dick Durban needs a name comparable to Hanoi Jane, Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose.

What shall it be?

Al Qaeda Dick? Insurgent Dick?

Any suggestions?

Osama Durbin.
Durbin Ladin

wabrams,

Durbin has given aid and comfort to our enemies–treason!
Well, if that’s the case, you better start locking up any politician, Republican or Democrat, that has uttered a bad word about the war on terrorism, then start locking up the protesters.

wabrams,

Nope. Durbin (he lost the title senator in my eyes) is the second ranking Democrat Senator and a very poweful leader…he has now given direct aide to our enemy. I cannot think of anyone else, of either party, that has so blatantly and deliberately helped our enemy as Osama Durbin has just done. If Bush said the same thing, I would be saying he should resign too.

He’s not standing in the middle of Fallujah w/ a bull horn rallying the local guerilla’s.

wabrams,

“Durbin’s slander of the American military, and his refusal to apologize for it has now been picked up by Al Jazeera’s English operation. One can only wonder what the Arabic broadcasts are saying about the second ranking Democrat in the United States Senate’s declaration that only a “mad regime” like Pol Pot could run a Gitmo.”

That is treason in my book. He just made more terrorist attacks in Iraq inevitable. He just made our job more difficult, he just put our soldiers even more completley in harms way and he will not even apologize. He should be thrown out of the senate.

In the age of technology, he IS feeding them lines… that are being bullhorned by terrorist leaders in safehouses across the world.

We, the people of Illinois, need to vote him out of office. The Republicans should put up someone who can win against him. I like Keyes but he just can’t win in Illinois.

Lock em all up; the politicians, I mean.

lance,

The problem is Illinois is a hugely democrat state.
Democrats are more vulnerable here in off years. Until 2002, Republicans won the governor’s office in every off-year election since the 70s. A republican won the Senate race in 1998.

We may have a chance against Durbin in 2006, if we nominate someone who is electable. Unlikely, but possible.

It’s worse. Osama Durbin is rallying them worldwide.

And we can’t call in a Warthog to stop him as we could if he was doing it in a crowd of terrorists in Tikrit.

His sidekick Omar Reid is no slouch either when it comes to writing propaganda for Al Jazeera.

Just plain Dick should suffice.

That allegations of abuse at Gitmo are weak. I will not go so far to say that individual cases of abuse don’t occur but I do not believe there is any systematic “torture” going on. Some of you know that I am in the Navy. One of my Petty Officers recently finised a six month stint in Gitmo working in the detention camp. While this is certainly hearsay, she is adamant that the prisoners are being treated very well and of note she personally had every form of bodily excretion (EVERY FORM) thrown at her by the prisoners. She indicated that this is somewhat common but our soldiers are under orders to react in no way to such behavior by the detainees and they do just that.

Now some of this debate really boils down into what defines torture. If you want to know what torture is, read accounts of our POWs in Vietnam. That is torture. Sleep deprivation, loud music, temperature changes while uncomfortable are not torture but really a means to put these bad people, and many of them are very bad, on an unequal footing when it comes to interrogating them. Once again, I cannot say 100% that we haven’t “tortured” anyone under my Vietnam definition but I am highly skeptical in that such treatment has been proven ineffective. Yes it provided information, but rarely is it reliable as people will say anything to make it stop. In my training on how to be a POW, which includes some very extended “in the field” simuations I was repeatedly taught this by US interrogators. Truthfully, one of the most effective ways to get information out of people is in the long run to be nice and make them feel comfortable.

Thekla feel free to call me a “cheerleader” again or make some other “inference”.
