Can A Christin Be Against Abortion

Obviously a Christain is going to be against abortion so I won’t say anything about that, but, capital punishment in my opinion should not be allowed. We are not to judge the criminals but to love them regardless the sin or crime, so who are we to determine what crime is punishable by death? I don’t believe that any human should be allowed to take the life of another human for any reason what so ever. Didn’t Jesus say what you do unto the lowest of His people you do onto Him? Or somewhere along those lines, so no, capital punishment should not be allowed in the eyes of a Christain.

Many people have been taking issue with my former reply (second half of page 4). I understand attempting to address my argument, but please do it in a rational way. If you would like to refute the evidence I gave to support my position, please do. If you would like to provide your own evidence, please do. But please do not make assertions without any backing support.

The difference between the murder scenario and the abortion scenario is that when murder is made illegal, it is a HUGE deterrent to potential murderers. You can’t say that “we might as well make murder legal to make the murderers more safe,” for this is a complete and utter fallacy. First of all, legalizing murder makes NO ONE more safe, it makes every single person much less safe. Secondly, this legalization would greatly increase the number of murders committed, having exactly the opposite effect desired.

I have never attempted to de-value any form of human life, just btw.

with that line of reasoning there there can be no punishment at all. what you are saying is that Jesus was promoting a no holds barred and that is not true. and remember that is was through capitol punishment that God has given us our greatest gift, the resurection and salvation through Christ.

What if your compassion for the murderer leads to the death of innocents.

We know from experience that murderers are often repeat offenders.

And For Capital Punnishment ?
God Himself declared capital punishment to be just.

“The soul that sins shall die.”

Comparing the execution of murderers to the killing of an innocent child is ridiculous. But your argument isn’t new. I could just as easily ask a choicer why they object to killing a murderer, but condone killing children. You see, the argument could go the other way too.

We must also remmember that this was a trap for Jesus. Had he said stone her, he was guilty of treason against Rome. Had he said release her, he was guilty against the Law. If we frame it like that, then Jesus was not calling for no laws. In fact, he said nothing of the sort.

We know that we are not to judge the hearts of others. That does not mean that we cannot judge the actions. How could Jesus have told us to take those who sin before the Church if we could not say that they have sinned?

Both abortion and the death penalty are legally sanctioned killing. Neither the fetus nor the prisoner wants to die. Neither has a choice in the matter.
The big difference is that the unborn child has done nothing to forefit (typo…I’m ESL, cut me some slack…) its right to life. The murderer (or in some countries: Drug dealer), has. That is the difference; and it’s what makes “abortion” an abomination, and capital punishment just and fair.

The Church says one can . In fact the current Pope said quite explicitly that Catholics of good faith can disagree on the Death Penalty

Please provide a link to the list. Perhaps by reading it, I will understand what you are so colorfully saying.

Here is a quote from my source and a link.
For the last time - your post:

Post #15:

"Nonsense. 93 countries do not have capital punishment and their murder rate is lower than the USA. We keep company with China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Iraq. We are the only western country that has the death penalty. Our murder rate is by far the highest.

Capital punishment does not deter crime."

**Next time you want to make a statement clear - don’t make such terse, blanket claims (as the red highlighted one).
If you were trying to say that the U.S. has a higher murder rate than the other 93 in question - simply say so.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

This tells us that Jesus did not think that adultery was worthy of the death penalty.

Do you agree that we should protect the innocent from those who would kill them?

Yes of course all who are in danger should be protected. But there are ways to protect society without killing those who threaten it. If it is a last resort to kill a man who threatens your life then maybe, but we are skipping steps to get to such an extreme method of punishment. If a criminal is imprisoned how then does he pose a threat?

First of all as has been pointed out earlier the man should have been brought for stoning as well as the women so those that were throwing the stones were not upholding the law.

also any punishment would be a judgment, I say judge not least ye be judged.

with that thinking we are left with no law and no one is safe. I really do not think that is what God had in mind.

Each year dozens of people are killed by those who have previously committed murder.

Most of these murders happen in prison.

Capital punishment saves innocent lives.

Why should your burn out cousin who stole a motorcycle be killed by a murderer in prison?

Some people have forfeited the right to live among others. We have an obligation to protect the innocent.
I think you meant this for somebody else. I wasn’t arguing this point.

If the police were perfect, if prosecutors were perfect, if judges and juries were perfect, then perhaps one could support Capital Punishment. But since all of these people are not perfect then Capital Punishment is absolutely wrong. Many innocent men and women have died because people want revenge rather than the justice of life imprisonment. I am amazed that anyone supports it especially those who purport to value life.
I’m proud of you, my Buddhist friend. 🙂
