Can a Roman Catholic use Orthodox crosses?

The East and West is one, holy, Catholic Church. Sometimes we worry about crossing the East-West border, however, we are one Church. The Byzantine Crosses are a part of the Eastern tradition of the Catholic Church. Even though it is predominately used by those of the Byzantine Rite, it is still Catholic. 👍 I have a Western Passion Crucifix from EWTN in my bedroom even though I am an Eastern Catholic. 😉

Most Eastern Catholic sacramentals and liturgical item are purchased from an Eastern Orthodox source because they have a far greater online presence and resources than the Eastern Catholics do. 🙂

No problem at all. We recgnise the Orthodox churches as churches in the true sense, having Catholic faith and order - all that holds us apart today, if we set aside semantic arguments like the filioque clause in the Creed, is an Orthodox refusal to recognise the primacy of the Pope, preferring to view him as ‘first among equals’ (that is, having a primacy in faith but equality in authority with their own metropolitan bishop).

Having said that, we’re probably closer than we’ve ever been since the 11th century Great Schism. I look forward to the day we put our remaining differences behind us and the Body of Christ breathes with both lungs.

As a devoted Catholic, I only wear crosses devoted to my faith, and medals around my neck, no other things from another religion shall I bear, and if you are truly Catholic, than the answer should be No.
The first Commandment saids:

I,am the Lord your God:you shall not have strange gods before me.

So again, if you are a true Catholic,we don,t wear things not of our Faith :harp:

The items in the OP are used by the Eastern Catholics who are in full Communion with Rome.

 Your post is rather offensive and shows you are in need of education regarding the Eastern Catholics and the Orthodox. Neither are a “different religion” and the Orthodox do not have “strange gods”.

So I’m confused; my soteriology might be a bit rusty but did Orthodox Jesus die on a different Orthodox cross than Catholic Jesus?

😃 In all seriousness, if you can answer the above question then my Socratic methodology of answering the OP’s question worked.

Let’ set aside the fact that Eastern Catholics use the same crosses and icons as the Eastern Orthodox for just a moment. The Orthodox do not worship a different god, so this argument does not apply.

Yes, you can wear an Eastern-style cross, even one made by or bought from an Orthodox source. Personally I would want it blessed by a Catholic priest though. I’m not saying Orthodox blessings are necessarily illegitimate or ineffective, but I would not go outside the Catholic Church for spiritual blessings, even of the more minor kind like sacramentals.

I,am sorry,in what I said, because, I don,t know to much about Orthodox, and didn,t know that neither are different religion, and that they do not have strange Gods,I hope you.ll foregive me as Jesus, does. The next time I,ll check into something I don,t know to much about before I post and reply.

God forgives and so do I. 🙂

:hug1: God Bless you.

It’s not a cross of course but I have something similar to this on my shelf. I never gave it much thought and since we also believe that Christ is Risen I doubt there’s anything wrong with it. I like it because it’s obscure to most Americans.

And it is a part of the Catholic tradition (used mainly by Eastern Catholics). 👍 EWTN sells similar Eastern Catholic eggs in their gift shop. 🙂

I didn’t know that. I figured it was stricly a Orthodox thing (Russian in this case). 🙂

Fancy eggs are a big Eastern (Catholic & Orthodox) thing. Every year I’m given the task as the youngest sibling to fancily decorate eggs at Easter time so that they can be smashed against each other (although my sister’s mother-in-law thought the chi-rho was “Muslim” writing :rotfl:).
