vern,

No, I am not calling you a liar, nor did I ever imply you are…I am not sure where that came from.

vern,

No, I am not calling you a liar, nor did I ever imply you are…I am not sure where that came from.
Then why did you demand that I say whether I called you a liar?

I didn’t – and you can’t show any post where I did.

I have categorically rejected the bogus argument that “force” has any bearing on the issue of establishing and running Catholic schools for poor children.

Now, this ain’t my first calf-ropin’. I’ve seen the same strawman tactic used by “Evangelicals” – where they seek to draw Catholics into a bogus argument for the sake of legitimizing their bogus positions.

So once again, the concept of “force” has no place in this discussion. Please stop referring to it.

vern,

As adults we have every right to converse as we see fit. I was asking an honest question in order to make a point…it was not a trap, not am I some fundamentlist seeking to draw you into some strawman argument…you are deeply paranoid for no reason at all.

As for my comment that you called me a liar, I agree you do not use the word liar, yet you did imply that I am:

I said: “I am presenting an honest question, in order to bring out another point, yet you are reluctant to answer the question. I wonder why?”

*You responded: No. You are taking a dishonest approach to debate with your strawman argument. I reject it completely.
With your response you have essentially called me a liar. I told you what my intentions were, and you said “no.” You set yourself up to be able to read my mind and my motives, despite the fact that I stated my question was an honest one. That is being called a liar in my view–you just did not use the word.

As adults we have an obligation to adhere to the rules of honest debate. If you think “force” is required, it’s up to you to prove it – not demand I accept it.

So now we’re into name-calling?

I said it was a strawman argument and bogus. And it is.

If YOU think we must use force, it’s up to YOU to prove it – not to me to accept it at face value.

I distinctly recall someone on this thread calling someone else “paranoid” on far less evidence.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif

Vern,

*As adults we have an obligation to adhere to the rules of honest debate. *

==> Which is exactly what I was doing…you just did not like my question, so you have created this long side discussion.

So now we’re into name-calling?

==> You imply that I am using strawman tactics, and continue to say I am even after I clearly said I was not. You imply that I am some sort of fundamentalist, and now you wonder why I call you paranoid? All I did was ask an honest question, and had you simply given a honest answer, we would have been on to other things.

I said it was a strawman argument and bogus. And it is.

==> No…it is not. You just do not want to answer a question that you feared was going to place you in a compromised position…nice way to dodge the question though…very clever. 🙂

If YOU think we must use force, it’s up to YOU to prove it – not to me to accept it at face value.

*==> *It is you that seems to think we need to use force, not me.

==> Still waiting for you to apologize about that liar thing.

Vern,

If you have not yet responded, please do not bother. We shall not agree about the issue of schools anyway, which is reason for this thread.

Thanks for the chat. Have a blessed and safe Easter…and may we all pray for Terri Schiavo’s soul, along with all of the judges and people who have her blood on their hands–may God have mercy on all of them.

No, you’re not – you’re using a bogus, strawman argument. That is not part of honest debate.

Because you are. Unless you can show that I introduced the idea of forcing children to attend Catholic schools your argument is a strawman.

No, I didn’t – I simply pointed out that you were using the same bogus tactics some fundamentists use.

And you called me “paranoid” BEFORE that.

I have pointed out over and over that you injected the idea of forcing children to attend Catholic schools. And you want me to accept the validity of that concept without any argument. That is not honest debate.

You developed your strawman just for that purpose. I reject the utterly your concept of forciog children to attend Catholic schools, and you know it

QUOTE=TPJCatholic]==> It is you that seems to think we need to use force, not me…

And THERE is the proof that the argument is bogus!! You, not I, injected this foolish strawman.

Find a single quote from me where I say force must be used.

QUOTE=TPJCatholic]==> Still waiting for you to apologize about that liar thing.

Still waiting for you to apologize for your strawman.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon12.gif
