someone at mass today told me that we can.
The more recent 1983 Code, Canon 1374, reads, "A person who joins an association which plots against the Church is to be punished with a just penalty; one who promotes or takes office in such an association is to be punished with an interdict."
First of all, why are you interested in joining the Masons? You can read up all about them on the Internet and judge for yourself what is the right thing to do.someone at mass today told me that we can.
NOTE: The following is the most recent decree from the Vatican on the subject of Freemasonry and is thus is the most current statement of the Church’s law on this topic…
Issued by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on November 26, 1983.
It has been asked whether there has been any change in the Church’s decision in regard to Masonic associations since the new Code of Canon Law does not mention them expressly, unlike the previous Code.
This Sacred Congregation is in a position to reply that this circumstance is due to an editorial criterion which was followed also in the case of other associations likewise unmentioned inasmuch as they are contained in wider categories.
It is not within the competence of local ecclesiastical authorities to give a judgment on the nature of Masonic associations which would imply a derogation from what has been decided above, and this in line with the Declaration of this Sacred Congregation issued on 17 February 1981 (cf. AAS 73 [1981] pp. 240-241).Therefore the Church’s negative judgment in regard to Masonic associations remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden. The faithful who enroll in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.
V. Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.
R. The Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered the root of David.
V. Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.
R. As we have hoped in Thee.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.
Let us pray.
That someone misled you.someone at mass today told me that we can.
That is totally wrong.Despite what people have said about the Masons being anti-christian, my research has shown me that they actually highly suggest you have a very strong personal religion. Just because they have strange and secret ceremonies does not automatically mean they are against Christianity. It’s nothing more than boy scouts for adults
Those “people” include the pope.Despite what people have said about the Masons being anti-christian…
Would you like to explain that to the Holy Father?my research has shown me that they actually highly suggest you have a very strong personal religion.
I don’t understand the connection, could you explain? Its like saying drug cartels are good because they give money to the poor!! They are evil and manipulate people.
i apologize, i should have worded it “despite what is said…”Those “people” include the pope.
Would you like to explain that to the Holy Father?
That military-industrial complex in America protects your freedom to write garbage like this.I used to be a member of the Kof C for some 20 years but finally left after they just would never take a stand on anything that was not PC…it was just a mens club…a few bucks for the ‘poor’ then lets have some drinks, order a pizza and that was it…As to the Masons…I work and lecture at a historical site and the local masons come and pay their respects to a great military war hero who was also a mason…they have liked my talks so much I have been invited to speak at one of their meetings…they know I am an orthodox Catholic but dont feel threatened by me and if any blood froim their human or animal sacrifice spills onto me I will sprinkle some holy water on it…seriously…the masons have been attacked for years…while its the military-industrial complex in America that has gotten us involved into no-win wars…why already there are some 50,000 US troops in Afghanistan…they are the ones to be feared with the blood money (had to work that in) gotten from these battles…anyway just my opinion…Nino
Like drug cartels the Freemasons are an evil group pretending to be nice guys. Neither are good.I don’t understand the connection, could you explain?
And are you basing this off personal experience (that is, actually attending a meeting in a legitimate lodge), or just off of what you’re told.
i apologize, i should have worded it “despite what is said…”
And I wouldn’t have to explain, it’s a very clear request when you begin the initiation process.
Can you tell me why?Like drug cartels the Freemasons are an evil group pretending to be nice guys. Neither are good.
What is it you want to know? Can you tell me why?
How are freemasons evil? What is it you want to know?
