And one could equally come to the conclusion that voting for the democrat is appropriate as well and be fully based on Catholic Moral Teaching.
Really? Then go ahead. If you believe that, go ahead and demonstrate.

Church teaching says that it is morally appropriate to vote for pro-life politicians. QED
Right. It doesn’t say that its morally appropriate to vote for Democrats who claim to be pro-life, does it? So what that means, stinkcat, is that we have to do some of the heavy lifting: we can’t expect the Church to tell us who to vote for - who we can vote for and who we cannot vote for. We have to use our critical thinking skills, apply Church teaching, logic, reason, etc. and draw our conclusions. The conclusions need to be based on sound reasoning and Church teaching. Some of us have done that here. The problem is, your response to that reasoning is always, "but the Church hasn’t forbidden us from voting for (Democrats who claim to be pro-life) "

The church teaches that it is appropriate to support pro-life politicians. You have any evidence to the contrary?

It is appropriate, though the Church allows us to use our judgment. While I would never vote for a Republican over a more anti-abortion Democrat, I can see the argument where someone might. The Church allows us to use our judgment. We should grant each other the same courtesy.

It seems that some want to argue that you can never vote for a democrat, no matter how pro-life they are, even if the republican is fully pro-abortion.

This is a false argument,a Republican wouldn’t be fully pro abortion!

Actually, you are the one with the false statement, consider the following by a republican candidate for governor in Massachusetts.
Charlie Baker–Republican candidate for Governor:
Gay marriage: Strongly supports same-sex “marriage”. Often brings up his gay brother who is “married” to another man.
Gay pride: Marched in 2010 Boston Gay Pride Parade, which also included transvestites, sado-masochism groups, and numerous other depravities. Baker marched with anti-family homosexual “KnowThyNeighbor” activists who were also campaigning for Baker.
Abortion: Supports abortion. States bluntly, “I’m Pro-Choice. I support a woman’s right to choose.”

95% of Republicans are going to be pro-life.

Gov. Tom Ridge of Pa. I believe he was/is a pro-choice Republican.

I love Rudi Giuliani, obviously, he saved NYC per not only 9/11 but also their high crime rate BUT abortion I think was an issue he totally skirted by. It’s hard to be pro-life a bit in some places. New York State itself, probably different.

Hence, per the Constitution, States should be able to govern individually and uniquely on these issues.Maybe even down to the local cities and towns and counties and municipalities as well.

The amazing thing is that some here seem to claim that a guy like Charlie is preferable to a pro-life democrat.
I think the point that you are missing/avoiding is that even a so-called “pro-life” Democrat (if that even exists) would help empower people like Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer and president Obama. Any Democrat who helps those pro-abortion leaders - those allies of the abortion lobby and Planned Parenthood - by putting them in the majority and supporting them overall,*** cannot legitimately call themselves pro-life***. Its really strange to me how someone can call themselves pro-life and yet still wish to be a member of the most pro-abortion party in the history of this country.

Hopefully now you can see where I’m coming from. Now. Can you respond without saying “but the Catholic teaching doesn’t forbid us from voting for Democrats” ???

I have evidence that Democrats who claim to be pro-life are not truly pro-life. If you want that evidence then go back and re-read this thread.

In the 1948 would you have asked a black man to vote for a member of the Dixiecrat party because the candidate said that they are in fact, not racist?

Once again, you are expressing nothing but an opinion. Some claim that republicans are not legitimately pro-life either. It is in our prudential judgement to decide whether a vote for a democrat is warranted.

No politician is honest, and it is not like republicans are more trustworthy than democrats. Even Romney claimed to be pro-life when he was clearly not.

Indeed. I totally agree.

I think we can walk and chew gun at the same time. :yup:

Saying that “one can vote for whomever one wishes” is one of the many lame excuses I hear from people, and then they wonder why they lose elections and how anti-Catholic politicians get into office.

The anti-life folks and those who practice the culture of death are more than happy to see such complacency from us.

Furthermore, as others have been posting in this thread, there are important Catholic guidelines for voting. :yup: I have not heard anyone with authority in the Church say that it’s okay to vote for someone whom one THINKS will help the poor or improve race relations over the right to life and defense of traditional marriage and religious liberty.

If that statement makes anyone nervous, they need to reexamine their conscience.

So it’s not an “anything goes” deal.
