Can conservative Catholic men become controlling in marriage?

There are not a hundred people in the USA who hate what conservatism truly is, but they hate what they have been told it is.

I agree totally, I believe society has twisted the real meaning of conservatism which is simply for each gender a complete fulfillment following the plan for which we were created. Somehow i see we have turned it into a gender war…

Well, that’s quite normal with ideologies. Conservatives, self so proclaimed, don’t agree on what conservatism is, I suppose, even if this won’t be so apparent as in the case of liberals, who won’t agree on their own definition.

As far as I go, I don’t care. I’ve been called anything from reactionary to leftist and I don’t care. I don’t believe in conservatism for its own sake, even though I will generally take what is seen as conservative positions and I generally take that people mean “old-school”, “the way it is in the books” and so on when they say “conservative”. This is why I don’t protest the denominator.

Now on the other hand, you could say, quite righftully, that a conservative is someone who believes that the old is better than the new and that degeneration is more likely than positive development and generally opposes change. I realise much of that is very well substantiated, but overall that’s a skewed image and is generally not the way things work, considering we’ve been created by God, who constantly works on us and in us and in the history, which means that creation is a process that’s still going on. In this light, going backwards - other than restoring what was good but was later abandoned or perverted - makes little sense.

So, say, there are conservatists and conservatists. Not everyone who is annoyed by and opposes excessive liberalism and unnecessary modernism is a 1890-ies fan.

Now if you find a man who likes quoting stuff from 19th century on you to make you submit (to his whims), you obviously don’t want to go there.
