I’m sorry that you feel that I’m rude. The truth is not always easy to take. Just ask Jesus.

Matthew 10:34

How do you interpret Matthew 7:13

If mortal sin is so hard to committ, why is the path to heaven narrow and the gate to hell is wide? Why will there be many who enter through the wide gate?
yeh, whats that quote from the bible, it`s easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than for someone to get into heaven. Because we are of this world, we want to taste it all, we want our cake & eat it too, many catholics are straddling the fence , because they are not sure either way, so they divide themselves to worldly things & spiritual things but mostly worldly things. When God saw what he created, he knew man would need a redeemer, Hence, His Son Jesus to attone for the sins of all mankind . God knows man is weak, told to me by a wonderful catholic Priest who also told me that God is not out to get us

No there is not communication issue here, we all speak the same english. Yes it was the priest himself. His reputation is wide known and no there are not rumors circulating other then the fact that we had an affair and the priest does not like conflict. When I went to him originally about getting a divorce from my husband, he sent me to another parish to seek councel since my now ex husband had served as his first alter boy and because he had married us. The father felt that he could not be there for me even though 1. I was the active member not my ex(he hadn’t been to mass in 18yrs) and 2. I had numerous police reports to back me up including the most recent one that the police filed dV charges against him. The MM happens to me the active music minister at the other church so I am not to go there either.
I do understand that the catholic church is the only one and true church, but getting things right with god has to come first. I can’t even begin to describe the emptiness of my life over the past 3 yrs has been. Yes, I still believe others before self, trust in people, and just try always to do the next right thing, One thing in all of this, my daughter gets so angry that I feel I need to apologize for all that goes bad. I guess she doesn’t understand, it is because of me that things go bad…
Does either the MM or your ex- have relatives in the parish where the priest told you to leave? It really doesn’t matter, but I’m trying to figure out why a sane priest would ask someone to leave mass. It is so ludicrous that it is mind boggling. Is this MM somehow connected to the Bishop too? It’s just crazy not to let someone attend mass.

It certainly is, It`s a disgrace, never heard of such a thing, The Church should be doing all it can to keep people & draw more in

I do not think missing mass for older people who have health problems is a sin. & U know something, I went to one of them renew things a few yrs ago hosted by parish members & they told me missing mass was not a sin, & they were hosting these meetings, so U see how screwed up it can get.For a sin to be mortal There has to be serious matter, FULL CONSENT & FULL KNOWLEDGE, if all these three things are not present, then there is no mortal sin committed. I doubt that many catholics do actually give full consent when they err if they have any reserve, then its not full consent, thats why its hard to commit a mortal sin, a nun told me this. Man is weak, & he or she sometimes do things without thinking
You have a habit of reading one part of a post and answering it as if you never read the whole sentence. I believe I said if you missed “without a serious reason”. That would excuse sickness, and/or elderly with problems.

Maybe when you heard parish members at Renew say it was not a sin you also missed the part about “without a serious reason”.

If you don’t believe us…don’t ask a parish member…don’t ask a nun…ask a priest. You can even look it up on the internet. Just be sure you are at an orthodox Catholic site.

The only point we are trying to make is that "yes, people can commit a mortal sin and unfortunately, it’s not that hard to do. Why do you keep making excuses for sinning? We are all sinners. We are responsible for our own actions. Let’s not delude ourselves into thinking otherwise. We can all be forgiven with God’s mercy.

They never said for serious reason, & U know what everything I post here that I heard in a sermon or directly from a priest has been lambasted, I am not a scholar, But not a fool either. I am only imparting what I have heard from priests over the years I attend mass weekly, & have attended many talks given by priests, thats where i get most of my stuff I post, I am a conventional catholic, if I sin I go to confession, if I am in sin & didnt make it to confession I do Not partake of the Holy Eucharist Like most do without reconciliation. We are human man & we are weak God knows it , There is an excuse for man sinning cause he is weak , & yes we can be forgiven by God`s mercy exactly. When i sin I face it , most dont even give it a thought like there is no sin. I dont feel that way, & also U people here certainly do twist things

Perhaps you would believe the Catechism of the Catholic Church? You can look at your own copy, and verify I’m not simply making this up. You can also read it at www.vatican.va

The Sunday obligation
[2180](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/2180.htm’)😉
The precept of the Church specifies the law of the Lord more precisely: "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass."117 "The precept of participating in the Mass is satisfied by assistance at a Mass which is celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the holy day or on the evening of the preceding day."118 2181 The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. **For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor.119 Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin. **

Thank You Kage, I knew that wasn`t true when they told me that .I even questioned them again & they said Nope, not a sin, I said your kidding. They said nope, not kidding

I hear a lot of things from parish members. I wouldn’t want to take them for their word because people give wrong advice all the time. Just like you are on here telling us how hard it is to committ a mortal sin. If you are getting most of the stuff that you post here from your priest, I would suggest switching parishes.

I didnt hear this from one priest, I heard all that I know from numerous priests. You ask a priest if its hard to commit a mortal sin, see what he tells You, maybe he will agree maybe not, I dont abide by what layman say, everything I post i heard from Priests & catechism, I do have one u know.I know all the requirements it takes to be a Good Catholic, But a lot of times I fail just like everyone else.

So because some say ‘yes’ and some ‘no’, you assume the easier and much more spiritually dangerous belief (‘yes, it’s hard to commit mortal sin’) is correct? There’s no commonsense in such an approach!

And because some individual priests say otherwise, you assume that the Catechism, the universally-used summary of Catholic teaching, the one that ALL the Bishops had (name removed by moderator)ut into, the document that represents the summary of Magisterial teaching, THE ‘sure norm’ (as JP’s intro puts it) that Catholics are supposed to turn to, is wrong? Again, where’s the common sense in that?

lets put it this way, people who have a tender formed conscience would probably be fully aware if they commit a mortal, where people with no formed conscience probably wouldnt give it a second thought,as for me, when I sin i accuse myself, I am not making excuses here for my sin just relaying what I have heard. I have a neighbor, & her sister is a Nun, & she is the one who said it`s hard to commit a mortal sin, I think she would know, U kno there are all kinds of gray area these days, My Brother in law was an alcoholic, the priest told him it wasnt a sin for him cause he was addicted.Over the years I have heard so many contradictions on different things & from what I see i hardly know what to believe, I just go by the basics, confession, Communion, sorrow for sin, & trust in God, after that I know nothing. PS, the lady that has a sister who is a Nun also has a Brother who is a priest, I think these people should know something about the religion, besides man is not as bad as he thinks he is, I heard that from a priest too. & also nobody can fully live up to the Catholic faith without straying now & then, its almost impossible & we all know it.

 I believe you misunderstood the post from the Catechism by Kage. Read it again.

The catechism said it is “grave”. That is one of the requirements of a mortal sin. If you have the other two, full intent, no valid reason, then it IS a mortal sin.

No one is denying that we are sinners or that we can be forgiven. But please, study your own faith in a little more depth instead of relying on what your friend’s brother or sister told her, things along that line. The “devil is in the details” so to speak.

I believe there are instances where no mortal sin was committed because grave matter or full reflection or full knowledge was not present. We are talking about millions of catholics, each ones experience or sin is not the same. I guess I am just a very poor catholic, thought maybe I had something together, but according to yall I got it all wrong, I believe the worse thing I did was come to this caf

My neighbor has a brother who is a lawyer. That does not mean I let my neighbor represent me in court.

My sister and my BIL are both nurses. That does NOT mean that I can give you medical advice.
besides man is not as bad as he thinks he is, .
Actually, most people are not as good as they think they are.

Perhaps if you get some books/tapes/videos by some priests who preach true to the Catechism, it would help? I’d suggest things by Bishop Fulton Sheen or Fr. John Corapi to begin.

I believe the priest who said man is not as bad as he thinks he is, its hard to live in this world & live a perfect life, God knows it & so do all of You. All the desires & feelings we have are God given, he knows we are weak & will certainly keep falling, I doubt anyone can achieve perfection on this earth, some people go a lifetime fighting a certain weakness But never succeed in ridding themselves of it, again I quote another priest who said all the Lord asks of us is that we try, but maybe i better go back to the drawing board, since I have it akll wrong

Methodi, I just want to point something out that many have overlooked about you. After reading your posts, you come across as a very kind, compassionate and understanding person. A person with your kind heart often sees the good in everyone and that’s a wonderful quality that you have. It’s good to see people like you in this world b/c the world sure as heck needs people like you!

I highly doubt you would find yourself in an affair with a married man b/c you would be too busy worrying about the welfare of his wife and children.

Having an affair with a married person is very selfish and wrong. There’s no way to justify this Methodi. I know you mean well and feel compassion for this woman. She’s been through a lot and I feel terrible for what she has had to endure. This affair has to stop! She allowed this affair to happen and that is black and white.

I’ll tell you something that happened to me. I was dating a wonderul man years ago. I fell for him pretty hard. I found out that he was married with a son. I was heart broken. He gave me the usual “I’m going to leave my wife…” stuff. I walked away and never looked back. I cried many tears, but I could never hurt his wife and son. That was my conscience and it was before I became a Catholic. I knew nothing of mortal sin.

A woman well knows the pain she can inflict on others when she has an affair with a married man. Going through with the affair is a very selfish act. This would be very displeasing to God. He wouldn’t want to see all of these people getting hurt. This affair is also hurting this woman’s daughter.

The OP is a good person, but hurting other people is not the right thing to do. It doesn’t set a good example for her daughter either.

Yes But she needs reconciliation, not to be thrown out of the church by the Priest. I think all of us have a skeleton in our own closet, which we would not want it generally known. But why is she forbidden in the church & mm is not he is just as much to blame, aside from that , neither he or she should be thrown out of the church, You know some of them priests dont do right themselves, & yes I do try to be compassionate, Thank You for The compliment, most people read me the wrong way & its frustrating. We keep growing all our lives with our spirituality way into old age. It is hard to be perfect in this imperfect world

I haven’t read all the thread but it looks like to me that everyone is going round and round and round with her on this.

I know this place is great, but please allow me to suggest someplace else that I think is more equipped to deal with this type of situation.

www.survivinginfidelity.com

The forum for the OP would be called the ‘wayward side’ this is for people who find themselves on the ‘I’m having or have had an affair’ side of things. Everyone there understands what the OP is going through and know how to deal with her specific types of feelings. They have a very protected forum where threads are opened that only wayward spouses can post on and no one else.

OP, please post your feeling regarding this other man. It helps if you post his full situation and your full situation.
I think there are a couple of orthodox Catholics there but not many will be able to discuss in any detail about the catechism or church rules.

I guess I am just a very poor catholic, thought maybe I had something together, but according to ya`ll I got it all wrong, I believe the worse thing I did was come to this caf
I’m sorry that you feel this way. The CAF is wonderful place to learn about the faith, but when you give advice to the OP that maybe God wants her to be with the married man, it is just wrong and against Catholic teaching. Breaking up a family could never be right and God wouldn’t want that.

But we really dont know that do we, we are not in the mind of God, he works in strange & mysterious ways. Here is one example last year i was chating with a Priest in The Rectorywe talked about different things & I asked him this, are there things that are just meant to be, & he said absolutely! Then we touched on rape, Because I am told also that God wills every conception, & he said Yes God can look down & see whats going on & say Oh yes I will a conception out of that, it kind of like threw me for a loop, then he gave me a book to read that tells how God does allow strange things to happen to us. The book was a little shocking to me. But yes God does work in strange ways, look at the amount of babies born out of wedlock, & the Number of Married people who want a child so bad & they are barren. God works in strange ways, even with me he did. There is a lot we dont know that will only be revealed to us when we Pass on to heaven, hopefully we are all going there
