I guess you are all missing what I have been told:DO NOT COME BACK To church, pray, receive sacraments… My question is since I am NOT ALLOWED how am I to find the strength or the way back… Have been struggling with this for 2 1/2 yrs… An why is my end of the sin worse then his…Is it cause I am truthful in my heart and because I don’t lie?
If that’s the case, find another church in another city. That priest has some very serious issues with being charitable towards people in suffering, and I don’t think I’d send ANYONE except a 1950s sitcom family to him.

I’m puzzled by your being asked to leave and not come back. Have you made a scene at church or on the church property? Have your actions created a great scandal in the parishes close to you? Have you disrupted mass in some way?
I know that you said that he has contacted you, but have you contacted him?

Instead of thinking about this man, think about his wife and family. Put yourself in his wife’s place. This woman has given her heart and soul to this man. They have made vows and promises before God. She has cleaved to him, has had his children, has given her life to him. She cooks for him. She cleans for him. His body belongs to her. They are one flesh. What you have done has caused pain, not only to yourself, but all the people around he and you. I can’t imagine you would want to bring pain on innocent people. Think of his children. They are being molded by the disruption you have caused in his home.

You have not said that your marriage has been annulled, so in the eyes of God, you are still married to your first husband.

You need to get your physical, emotional and spiritual life in order
before you even think about a man, especially a man who belongs to another family.

If you want to attend church, you should find out what masses he will be at and avoid those masses. If you are afraid of being thrown out, sit in the cry room. I am sure that if you give up this obsession for this man, the priest will recognize this and let you be.

Is there a male relative who could attend mass with you? I find that sometimes women are treated differently if there is a male relative with them.

I still have a problem with you being banned from nearby churches. These priests would be committing a sin by denying you the chance to fill your obligation to go to Mass. Something is not right here. I would contact the local bishop. If that doesn’t help, contact Rome.

My advice to you, sweetie, is MOVE.

LEAVE.

Pack up and get OUT of there – the whole situation sounds toxic beyond belief. The abusive husband, the weak man who knows you’re vulnerable and can’t stop taking advantage of you, and the people at church treating you like you’ve got a scarlet A on your chest aren’t doing you one bit of good either.

I don’t know how old your children are, but if you’ve been married for 21 years I’m assuming they’re all 14 or older, and if they’ve seen your ex-husband beating you, they know the marriage has failed.

Seriously. If I were you I’d pack up the kids and RUN. This situation sounds like it’s wrecking you. Nobody should have to endure that. There are services you can call for women in violent domestic abuse situations who will help you relocate. You can even change your name and social security number so no one can find you.

You sound caught in a tangled web of cruelty and abandonment, and no woman (and no child!) should have to live with that.

There is nothing in this “story” that I have not revealed. The funny thing is that in this small community there are only two trains of thoughts. 1 the guy is a snake, the priest is just wrong but that is who he is. 2. I am just wrong. I have thought about moving, even packed up most of my house that I bought just 2 yrs ago. My daughter that lives with me is 21, is hurt everyday she sees the boxes and knows that I am trying to leave. She wants to stay, and I want makes her the happiest, she is has been through so much as is and is sadden everyday that “he” did this to me. As she tells me everyday, “I just want you happy mom, but what he did is wrong and you are not the one that should have to pay the price. You paid your dues staying with dad and trying til there really was nothing left of your heart and soul to give.” So moving? not really an option. As much as I am committed to the catholic church( I choose, not my parents, not my husband, I CHOOSE) I just need to find some denomination that is close… I know I need to heal, just don’t know what is closest to catholic faith…

Once again…you are settling for something less…so you aren’t really as committed as you may think you are to the Church. The Church isn’t doing this to you. People are doing this to you…and you are helping them.

We have repeatedly given you good suggestions and your responses are reasons why you can’t do what is suggested. I repeat…there is a priest somewhere near you that is more concerned about your soul than about “what people think”. If you have indeed told us the whole story, and you have said that you have, and you are ready to no longer have anything to do with this person go talk to a priest (not his) and move on. But when you do, don’t go in there and make it all about this man and “what he has done to you”…go in with confession of your part in this and tell the priest of your sorrow and how you want to move on. If you can find no priest to help you do this then perhaps it is time to go to the diocese as has been suggested. But you have to try first.

With all due respect and upmost charity, you are making it sound as if you were a victim of the affair. You freely chose to be in this affair. You stated that it started as an emotional affair and then led into a physical affair. The other man was married. His wife is the victim. So staying in your marriage for so long doesn’t mean that you have paid your dues for having this affair. I’m sorry, but you are not trying to write to the bishop or do what the others have suggested. The closest to the Catholic faith is the Catholic Church. If you are a true Catholic, you know that there is only the one true Church and that is the Catholic Church. Anything else will not suffice. I’ve never heard of being banned from several churches for committing adultery. You must find a priest, confess your sins, and move on. God bless and don’t give up.

I am so glad you are seeking the mass in this sad situation. What struck me most is your marriage in an emotionally abusive marriage for 20 plus years. I am a divorced woman who was in an abusive marriage with a narcissist (sorry not spelled correctly). Now I always like to add that I was not mentally or spiritually healthy either, we both contributed to an unhealthy marriage.

When my marriage ended I was a wreck. I was in a lot of pain. This is what I am thinking you were going through also. My words for you are to separate from this man, you must concentrate your time to reflect on your choice of your first husband, what drew you to him, what are the warning signs you did not recognize or ignored.

The next thing to pray about, the harm inflicted on the wife and family of the man you were seeing. When I found out my husband was seeing another woman, my body felt as if it were ripping in two. It’s a deep wound which lays bare for a tremendous amount of time. No one has the right to date a married person, no circumstances excepted.

I was so afraid of being alone. This I believe could very well be a fear you have. It took a while, but being alone (even though I have a daughter) brought much confidence and serenity in my life. It also was a time the Lord drew me near, and I found myself returning to my faith (at that time a Baptist). Through my search of His will and my growth, I discovered the glorious fullness of the Faith in the Roman Catholic Church!

Your feelings (an incorrect method for making decisions) will correct themselves when you truly seek the Truthful path God has made known. Get a good Catholic Book of Prayers. It gives us the words to speak our beliefs to a God who knows best, even though that meant His death, His Passion for us.

I believe God will use these circumstances in your life to restore you in the faith, His Grace is sufficient, we just need to cooperate with His Grace! Know that you are Loved by Him and the many brothers and sisters you have in Christ.

I am not sure if this is right place to place, but have a feeling I may get the best answers here. Story is long, so I apologize.

In 2005, after attending WYD and truly being touched by god and the holy spirit, things w/in my marriage deteriored rapidly. I lived in a physically and emotional abusive marriage for 21 yrs and had made a resolution if I was hit again, I was done. I had asked my exH for counceling for over a month, and finally he accused me of having an affair, which I was not, and hit me. My children called the police and things just headed for divorce from there. I contacted and seeked the advice of 3 priests, all in support of my decision. I also sought councel from the youth/music minister w/ whom I was comfortable and close with at the time. The relationship w/ the minister esculated to an adultress affair(emotional not physical) and was brought to the attention of both churches and his family. It was at that point that both churches told me to not go, and never to attend there services again. The MM and myself had no contact and I attended another parish, sought confession from 4 other priests and was told over and over again that until I was willing to stop loving this man, that I was not to attend church, pray, participate in sacriments, etc until such time as I could say I no longer love him, and I would never again comit to any relationship w/ him. I have been struggling w/ this, trying to find my way back since.
About 1 month later, he contacted me to see how I was, since we had always been very close friends first. He was still at both churches in his ministry copacity and attended church weekly. He was seeking counceling and working on his marriage. I did not contact him and contined my soul searching all the while protecting him and his family from the rath of my ex who felt that was why we were getting divorced and threaten to publicly humilate this man and his family.
I had no contact and moved forward until 6 months later when he contacted me again and I realized how very much I still loved him, willing to go the ends of the earth, etc to be with him. He told he loved me, wanted to be with me, etc but still had to give his marriage a chance. We did then have an adultress relationship that spanned 2+ yrs, him always telling me that he was working on how to leave. The relationship again became known to his wife and family and when I told him to make choose, he choose to work on his marriage since they told him he would no longer be able to have contact with his grandson if he didn’t.
I am still lost in where or how to return to god, jesus and the church since I still have such mix feelings about my soulmate. I know in my heart that as the “dust settles” he will be back and I will take him back. That is the sin that I can not let go of and seperates me from the church I love so much. I cry everyday over both of them… even my daughters know how very much this means to who I am, and though there point of view is “if he can go and preach everyweek, why can’t you go? You are dening yourself alone” I can’t see it that way. I am just following the rules and judgments set before me, but don’t know how to make it right. Any help is appreciated… I miss god in my life so much, it is something that I can’t even describe…
God is in your life, even tho it may seem he isnt. God works in strange ways, we all know that, who knows maybe God wants You two to be together. If You are hopelessly in love with him, its not your fault, Good Luck. God is always handy, no matter what, call on him with humility

Love is a choice.

God does not desire us to sin.

She needs to respect this man’s marriage and repent in confession.

“hopelessly in love” is a fairy tale, and telling one in this circumstance that it is “not her fault” is probably not really helpful as it reinforces her feeling of being a “victim”.

God can make good come out of bad but he does not cause one to sin simply to make good come out of it.

I hope I not sounding harsh as I’m sure you were trying to be kind and I do agree with your statement that God is there even in those times when it doesn’t seem like He is.

Yes, the man`s marriage has to be respected, but he didnt respect it himself, he just used her, & I dont think love is a choice, you just cant force yourself to love someone, but too bad she fell in love with him

I am not really sure that what U say is true, a lot of times, we have one plan, but God has another. Even some priests have left the church because they fell in love with a parishioner

All that may be true but it is never God’s plan for us to sin. We just make those mistakes and he goes along after us helping us clean up our mess, so to speak.

So then, It`s kind of meant to be. He knew from the beginning we would need a savior, His Son Jesus, for us all. We will all make mistakes up until we leave this earth

This is also a terrible sin. If they did not repent, then they, too, are in Hell.

Oh I dont believe that, some leave the church to marry & are still in good standing, they are just changing their vocation. I am glad you are not God as U would have us all in hell. God is forgiving, patient & Loving, he knows all men are weak & subject to sin, thats why he gave us Jesus

They can get back into good standing with a good Confession, but a priest can’t just ditch the priesthood and his congregation, and go off and get married.

If it were not a sin, Jesus would not have to die on the cross for it. 😉

Jesus came for the unjust, not the just, the just have no need of him
