Methodi;4691980**:
I believe there are instances where no mortal sin was committed because grave matter or full reflection or full knowledge was not present.
We are talking about millions of catholics, each ones experience or sin is not the same. I guess I am just a very poor catholic, thought maybe I had something together, but according to yall I got it all wrong, I believe the worse thing I did was come to this caf

I believe it has been said by several that all three must be present. However, laying in bed on Sunday morning, and deciding that one just doesn’t feel like getting up and going doesn’t count because any well-catechized person knows that they should unless they are in denial.

I believe the priest who said man is not as bad as he thinks he is, its hard to live in this world & live a perfect life, God knows it & so do all of You. All the desires & feelings we have are God given, he knows we are weak & will certainly keep falling, I doubt anyone can achieve perfection on this earth, some people go a lifetime fighting a certain weakness But never succeed in ridding themselves of it, again I quote another priest who said all the Lord asks of us is that we try, but maybe i better go back to the drawing board, since I have it akll wrong
And what does this have to do with our discussion of whether attendance at Mass/Holy Days of Obligation or a sin or not? We are not talking about how hard the struggle is…we know it’s hard.

Also, I wish you would quit replying as a “victim”.

But we really dont know that do we, we are not in the mind of God, he works in strange & mysterious ways. Here is one example last year i was chating with a Priest in The Rectorywe talked about different things & I asked him this, are there things that are just meant to be, & he said absolutely! Then we touched on rape, Because I am told also that God wills every conception, & he said Yes God can look down & see whats going on & say Oh yes I will a conception out of that, it kind of like threw me for a loop, then he gave me a book to read that tells how God does allow strange things to happen to us. The book was a little shocking to me. But yes God does work in strange ways, look at the amount of babies born out of wedlock, & the Number of Married people who want a child so bad & they are barren. God works in strange ways, even with me he did. There is a lot we dont know that will only be revealed to us when we Pass on to heaven, hopefully we are all going there
You make a good point; however, rape is something a person has no control over. They are truly the victim of violence. God may bless the victim with a baby, but God would never will the person to be raped.

The rapist had given in to violence…that didn’t come from God.

Couples who cannot have babies is again something that they cannot control.

A woman CAN control whether or not she has an affair with a married man. Deception is not God’s will.

I was not involved with atendance at mass, only to say That The woman should not have been thrown out of the church by the priest, & U people make me feel like a victimI do not remember replying to any thread about attendance at mass Holy days of obligation

Now you’re scaring me. Let’s just take the rape story for example. God can make something good come out of that horrible experience but he did not cause the rape in the first place. God does not cause sin. God gave us free will and “we” sin thru our own weaknesses. But we must realize our sin and confess sincerely to be forgiven. And yes, we may fail again and have to repeat. But we can’t keep committing the sin and **justifying it ** by saying God wanted it so that “this end result can happen.”

since I am human, Its hard for me to picture God looking down on something like that & willing a conception out of it, meaning no disrespect to God

  Please reread posts.

You said it was hard to commit a mortal sin.

I replied…no, it isn’t. Not attending Mass on Sunday is a mortal sin. Someone else gave another example of a mortal sin that isn’t that hard to commit.

We then got off topic as you have been arguing that point thru several pages!

And let me restate once again. I also believe that the original poster should never have been turned away by the Church if everything is as she says it is.

And by victim I mean your oft response along the lines of “gee, I thought I was okay but you guys keep making me feel so bad, wrong, etc.”

My priest told me that some things are just meant to be, I believe that look around You man cant U see , look at the behavior of men look how they act, when i was younger, all the catholics thought the worse thing U could do was to eat meat on Friday, but they did everything else tho, but they wouldnt eat meat on friday

Yes because every thread i get on I get in trouble, people read me wrong & read into what I say what they want it to say, they twist things. ya`ll make me feel like the worse catholic

My priest told me that some things are just meant to be,
This sounds close to indifferentism. Throwing up our hands and saying “oh well.”

We are commanded, yes COMMANDED by Christ:

Matt 5:48

**48 **"So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect. "

Will we fall down, yep. God will help us when we get back up and go to confession. We are not supposed to lie there wallowing around in the mud saying “it was just meant to be”.

Seems you may want to start a new thread, this one has been hi-jacked enough.

This is because you are kind and feel empathy for the victim.

If I got hit by a drunk driver today, it wouldn’t be God’s will for me to get hurt. It would be God’s will for me to forgive the drunk driver for hurting me.

That drunk driver has made the choice to drive drunk and the consequence of that is injuring or killing another person.

Turn this around…if a rape victim conceived a baby, it would be God’s will for the mother to love her baby and want the best for her baby. It would be God’s will for the woman to forgive her rapist and to offer up her suffering to God.

Hey, a Catholic priest told me this, what do U want from me. Maybe I am poorly informed, But I think a lot of U people here are even less informed. If I cant take a Priests word, whos word can I take. & Guess what, there are Things that are just meant to be! Cmon, look around! There is more to the religion than quoting out of books like a lot of U do, look at life look around You! There are things that are definitely meant to be . God is in charge, what he has ordained for U is what U will get

In a lot of cases, that`s very hard to do, especially if U are leading a devout catholic life, it would make u wonder. What about incest, why would God allow a conception thru incest, some of it is just hard to swallow

I take it that you don’t believe anything that is written in the bible.
Do you not believe in the Ten Commandments. Do you not believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Do you think his teachings were wrong? You keep saying that we don’t know if it wasn’t God’s intentions for the OP and married man to be together. If you believe in the Ten Commandments and the words of Jesus, than you would know that it is not God’s intentions for the OP and married man to be together.

Let me give you some advice. Quit listening to what everyone’s brother’s cousin’s sister said and read the Bible and read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. If these priests are actually giving you this bad advice, go somewhere else.

You know what, when I see a thread that I can possibly put some insight into I do, but it seems like everything I say is attacked, I think some of U are misinformed not me, Some of u have tunnel vision. These things I quote are not heard from one priest , they were heard over the years here & there but from Priests, U know they say one thing not to argue is religion & politics & i can believe it. I dont believe that any priest ever gave me bad advice. I am not new to catholicism, I know what has to be done to attain Heaven, like I say I just put in my two cents where i think I can, there are some threads i wouldnt touch cause i dont know enuff about them. This forum has made me almost bitter, I am not an egotist or anything like that I am very humble in fact maybe too humble, & I have no personal agenda here like one person acused me of. Being I am a sinner, I used to frequent the chat rooms& engage in nasty chat I turned to this forum, but found it to be sharklikeI was unjustly acused on another thread & I fought back & eventually did get an apology. I know You mean well & so do I. God works In strange ways, havn`t U heard

I’m not trying to attack you. I’m just asking if you believe what is written in the Bible. You are always saying we don’t know what God’s intention is but we do. We have the bible. We have the tradition of the Church. We do know. We know that it is wrong to commit adultery. Again, I’m not trying to attack you. I feel that you have a good heart, but you’ve just been misinformed on some things. Anyhow, we should get back to the OP’s original subject.

even tho some of what is written in the bible is terrible, I have to believe it cause the Church says I do. We couldnt go around doing ssome of the things they did in Biblical times we would be in trouble

I can’t answer this one Methodi and I wish I could! I can only tell you that I am a survivor of incest (I never conceived a baby) and for me:
  1. My parents chose to have a baby - God granted them this blessing (me)
  2. My parents had free will and treated me with their own free will; hence, I was abused by them.
  3. My parents will be accountable for my suffering when the time comes. My mother has never repented, but I am starting to think that maybe my father has (he has never talked about his actions - I think he’s afraid).
  4. I am accountable for how I treat people; my faith in God; and my own actions. It is God’s will for me to be a good mother, wife and to seek help when I feel the need. I could choose to abuse my daughter - that’s my free will, but I love my daughter so much that I want her to experience a good childhood with happy memories.
Sometimes we suffer and it is not necessarily God’s will. There are dark forces in this world too…dark forces that cause people to do very evil things.

Good. So from reading from the bible, we know that God does not want us to have sexual relations with someone’s spouse. We know that it is easy to sin because there will be many who do not repent and will go to hell. Our Lady of Fatima said that there will be more people sent to the eternal fires through sins of the flesh. The temptation from sins of the flesh are strong and Satan knows this is weakspot for mankind. That is why he attacks us so much in this area.

Thank You for sharing, I am sorry you suffered that trauma. You could be bitter But U chose a better route. God Bless & comfort You always!
