I have heard lots of arguments in favour, and very few against this practice, and I would like to be sure that it is not a problem to do so. Thank you.

How can one pray the rosary while paying attention to the liturgy?
Pray it before the mass, after the mass, but when the mass is being offered one should devote total attention to it.
We are offering sacrifice to GOD we should be laser focused on that.

Peace!

This had become increasingly common in the Latin mass, thus the common language was introduced. Oh, there were many other reasons and changes, but we are called to participate in the sacrifice - being members of Christ’s Body.

I do sometimes - at least pieces of it! I love to pray the sorrowful mysteries as the priest walks in, during the preparation of the altar, etc. It helps me stay focused on Jesus offering Himself to the Father & in the presence of His mother. 💝

If you arrive say, 7-8 minutes before mass begins, you can offer a Chaplet of Divine Mercy in Christ’s presence. Priceless, as I see it.

Before mass and after the mass totally fine. In between mass absolutely NO. Mass is highest form of worship we can offer in this world. Greatest sacrifice our minds cannot fully comprehend in our earthly lives. We have to fully submit ourselves during the Mass. Mamma Mary is our divine mother. She always leads us to Jesus. She won’t be happy when attention is given to her during the Mass. You may want to go through this article.

Having said that I don’t want to confuse you with the devotion to Mother Mary. She comes to us always whenever we call her. She is an integral part in our spiritual journey. But not by replacing worship to God but towards it.

I believe Vatican II said something about not using private prayers during the mass. Actually, my wife and I stay after the mass and say the rosary together. I looked around last time and no one else was staying and saying the rosary, though this would be a good time for that.

I would say it depends.

At a Mass in the Ordinary Form - no! Because that requires your active participation.

At a Mass in the Extraordinary Form - yes! Because that requires a lot less active participation on your part.

Oh no, it isn’t replacing worship at all. I asked that because I saw that it was possible and some Popes said that there was no wrong in doing so. But I don’t know what has really changed postconcilium.

From Pope Paul’s 1974 Apostolic Exhortation, Marialis Cultus (Marian Devotion), 48:
…it is a mistake to recite the Rosary during the celebration of the liturgy… (source)

I would say, no, mass.requires your participation. When I was growing up it was always done before mass

When I attend the Spanish Mass, my Spanish is not good enough to keep up with the homily. I will pray a rosary during the homily.

Other than that, no, I am focusing on the Mass.

Indeed! The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in just that: a sacrificial offering. We have been baptized into Christ’s Body - thus it is necessary for us, as part of Father’s sacrificial offering of Christ to the Father, to join our bodies (“as a living sacrifice” Saint Paul said) to the sacrifice. We are commanded to “do this in remembrance of Me”, and as beautiful, traditional and devotional as the Rosary is, we are not commanded to offer it. The mass is on a far higher plane.

I guess you can do what you want, but why would you do so at the expense of the gifts given in the Liturgy of Word and Sacrament obtained in the mass? It seems to me that one should not spurn corporate worship in favor of private contemplation though.
