Does anyone think the supporters of Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry will support Ron Paul?
I agree. I probably won’t, just because alot of followers turn me off. Many of my political minded friends feel the same way.

If Ron Paul should somehow miraculously win the republican nomination, I would visit a bar first, then vote for him. My motto is “Anybody But Obama”.

If, however he ends up running as a 3rd party candidate, I would lose what little respect I have for him because he is an intelligent enough person to know that he would have no chance of winning and would thus assure four more years of Obama. If he truly loves this country, he could never let that happen.

:clapping:

Very, very well said.

The Republicans are not much better than the Democrats. Running as a third party would at least keep his message in the spotlight and push for future change.

Um…no. A third party will splinter the GOP and lead to four more glorious years of Obama. It will do NOTHING to his message, it might even make more people dislike it.

Ronald Reagan had it right-he knew the way to win an election was to convince the GOP to believe in his views, not run as a third party.

It’s not because they have troops in Afghanistan.

How does it prove that it’s not because of that?
I admit we upset Islamists with our policies. Whether its the fact that we support Israel, or the fact that we don’t stone a woman to death for being raped by someone who isn’t her husband. Or our support of “moderate” (doublespeak for “not Islamic enough, by al Qaeda standards”) Islamic regimes.
My question is, how much of our foriegn and domestic policy do you want to change to suit the delicate sensibilities of the Islamist street?
Let’s stop offing leaders in the area, to start.

Who cares if the GOP wins if the candidate is a pro-war, similarly minded person in economics? Seriously, there’s no difference. Obama is being made out to be a great evil, yet Romney and Gingrich are the same. So who cares if the vote is splintered?

Agreed
It will do NOTHING to his message,
Disagree- It will continue to keep it visible and relevant - Think Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 or Ross Perot in 1992
it might even make more people dislike it.
True, but I think it will also draw more supporters

This may be true, but Paul will never have the mainstream GOP on his side.

Teddy lost in 1912, I think. I’m sure Perot lost in 92! 😉

You really want to help your cause? Win.

True, but TR actually beat Taft in that election. Perot may or may not have done better if he hadn’t suspended then restarted his campaign. We’ll never know on that one.

I think one think people are discounting is that Paul would likely draw a good amount of Obama’s youth vote, even as a third party candidate.

Exactly…heres the word for the year…ECONOMY:shrug:😃 Geez, were already hanging off the cliff by a branch.

Peace

It will help his cause by exposing a larger audience to his libertarian message.
Which would do…?

None of the ideas of John Anderson or Ross Perot have really taken off. In fact, many people forget about John Anderson and dismiss Ross Perot.

I agree, but Ron Paul is different. There are others who carry the libertarian torch and who will do so after Ron is done. This helps pave the way for others in the future. Ross Perot had some political organization after his run, but it didn’t have much strength and dissolved. The Libertarian Party has existed for some time now and Paul will help them gain strength in the future even if he doesn’t run as a Libertarian.

He is different-your absoutely right, and it’s also a different time. I don’t know, maybe your right. It’ll be interesting to see.

If you think Obama would lose more than he would gain in a Paul 3rd party run, I have a bridge for sale.

I’m still waiting for a Paul supporter to tell us how much of our foriegn and domestic policy we should change to ensure we don’t anger a few Islamists, and thereby ̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ *provoke * another 9/11.
