Can we confirm that In Vitro Fertilization is inhumane?

Cool. That’s what was asked though; whether I supported aborting a child who would die shortly after birth. It’s a hypothetical.

I understand. Not trying to argue, just pointing out that often the doctors get it wrong.

No worries, sorry if I snapped (I just woke up, one shouldn’t type sleepy!)

That’s that parent’s choice. But in all frankness if a person chooses not to risk their life to bring a child to term that a doctor has said will die either inside them or shortly after that seems fair to me.

So you think it’s unethical to abort a foetus that won’t make it?
Agreed, there are multiple scenarios. In terms of ones that would die shortly after birth many in that situation actually die during birth, being born isn’t easy after all. Or are born into pain before dying. I see no reason to extend agony.
How’d we get from “abort because the fetus would die anyway” to aborting a child that would survive?
Based on these three responses, I’m asking you two simple yes or no questions:

There is a rare genetic condition when two parents with achondroplastic dwarfism conceive a child that carries what is know as a “double dominate” form of dwarfism. This condition is always fatal, if memory serves no double dominate child has lived past the age of 3 years.

Is it immoral to destroy embryos conceived via IVF when there is double dominance?

Is it immoral to abort fetuses conceived naturally when there is a double dominance?

I think I already answered earlier in the thread that I’m pro-choice and it would depend on the parent. I don’t think it’s immoral to abort at all.

Thank you for the answer.

Next question.

Do you believe that it is immoral to abort a perfectly healthy fetus because it is a girl because the parents want a son?

Pretty sure I already answered this. My previous answer was indeed a blanket statement and didn’t relate to disability; I don’t think it’s immoral to abort at all.

Any time right up through the 40th week? For any reason or no reason at all?

You realize you are rather rare in the pro choice world. Most pro choice people have a line.

If the child can survive in a premmy unit then I think they should be transferred to one. And yes, any reason at.

Again, wow. I have never “met” anyone who is that utilitarian in their thinking.

Cool. It’s something I’ve considered for a while and it does avoid any of these “but your line is here, so surely we can nudge it back to here” style arguments.

It also raises the question, if you have no line, what about infanticide? What about children born into crushing poverty and abuse? What about really old people? Or really disabled old people?

Sorry friend, remember how I said if they could survive in a premmy unit they should be transferred to one? I support the person’s right to remove the foetus from their body, if that results in death then so be it. I never once supported a person’s right to cut out that middle man. Solid try though.

Not a try, simply wish to determine where you fall.

I do not want to put my child in a NICU. I do not want them to exist anymore. I think I might harm myself if I have to know that this deformed monster exists, I know I am at 38 weeks but I want an abortion. Is that a line?

I’m pretty sure I answered this.
