Can you tell who in this picture is in full communion with Rome?

I’ll take a wild, wild guess and say the ones with the kamalavkas and/or Latin crosses (?)

I dunno - the gentlemen with medallions on their chest instead of crosses could also be some of our Eastern Catholic brothers

There’s a name for those medallions which escapes me, and I’d be grateful if one of our experts could remind us what those are.

My guess would be it’s a group of Melkite bishops, who are (officially) considered in full communion with Rome.

My Patriarch would be surprised to find some of his hierarchs wearing episcopal headgear of our sister Oriental Churches.

Many years,

Neil, who belongs to a Church that is officially in full communion with Rome - not merely considered to be such

Does that mean Melkites don’t wear kamalavkas and engolpia?

I’m fairly certain the two on the leftmost are in union. Any and/or all of the others might be.

I recognize the leftmost of these bishops from a VNS photo.

Melkites? Syrian Catholic prelates? Apostolic nuncio?
All of the above?

I’m sure glad the Church doesn’t have the equivalent of that
old game show What’s My Line.

It means our hierarchs do not wear turbans
I didn’t think a kamalavka was a turban; it’s a black veil like the one worn by the bishop on the extreme right, first row, or the one in the center with the blue sleeves.

After this thread, I know I’m not getting any jobs as either a diplomat or a vestment expert.

I’m still guessing that the bishops with the red trim are Syrian Catholic; as for the one in the back in what looks like a turban, I can never really tell whether they’re Syrian Orthodox or Catholic.

All of the clean shaven ones are in communion with Rome, as Eastern Orthodoxy requires priests to wear beards.

If you are new to, or still learning about, Eastern/Oriental Christianity, can you tell from this picture of these Hierarchs, who is in full communion with Rome, and who is not?

Hi I havent the foggeist notion but its interesting. Makes a person actually look at what they are wearing there.

Things I noticed are:

3 fellows have staffs/ canes

1 fellow is in white

1 fellow has a cross on his head (hes my guess)

🙂
